Whoever the qb is has to make some plays throwing down the field in tight spots. The screen plays will not work and we can't rely to heavily on the run game. If I'm nuss I would set up run with pass even it means rotating 3 qbs

Get Trask ready to go and that's not likely to happen.
Plus his ability to run the ball up the field would be devastating in a 4-5 wide formation.

But since Mc-Nuss knows that he was just a 2 star backup coming out of HS, there's no way that they want him in a game, until maybe he's a rsSr anyway....

Appleby is a strong runner if Mac wants to allow him to do that a few times.

They will focus on those dink and dunk screens but we still have to get some production out of them. If they can score a 58 yard TD on us last season throwing a damn screen to their QB we should be able to do something there. lol

Under pressure, Appleby get's 'happy-feet' and throws picks.

Trask is both stronger and faster, and he doesn't turn the ball over.

While I very much like our current coaching staff, I'm sometimes dismayed by what they 'choose' to do. And it's 'your choices, not your ability, that determines who and what you are'.... o_O

I doubt Trask is stronger than Appleby. He trucked safeties a few times and even a LB or two when running the ball a few times at Purdue. They didn't have too many designed runs for him except at the goal line but I think he ran the ball in quite a few times when they were inside the 5 yard line.

I agree. Yet this coaching staff last year did not do much in the way of running Treon. Maybe that was due to no depth behind him and they were afraid of an injury.

I hope they can gameplan around Appleby's strengths.

So, some of you think a true freshman project, with no experience that didn't start in HS is a better option than Appleby? Lol just lol

Appleby - Grad-xfer Sr - 6-4 240 -- 19 Ints.

Trask - true Freshman - 6-4 238 -- ZERO Ints.

While I don't have an 'official' 40 time for both, Trask is way faster, trust me.

I just hope that they can game-plan completely around using Happy-by, but that's just me.... ;)

In the Spring game, Appleby threw 2 that should have been Ints, but were dropped. (Franks did throw 3 Ints)
In the Spring game, Trask threw the ball away when nobody was open on a scramble.
3 QB's got at least a series with the 1-offense, while Trask was stuck with the 2-3's on his 2 series. Didn't seem like it was fair/equal at all to me, while in my eyes he looked like the better QB of the 4 that day.

The tFr QB's can't play at an SEC level is total excuse BS imoho. Having watched Gator football since SOS was the Gator QB. While any certain individual tFr might not be able to, it's not a blanket rule to be followed.

A few of the current coaching decisions still have me scratching my head, but I'm just a Gator fan...

Ssooooo

You want to start a true freshman who didn't start in high school in Knoxville? Sounds legit

More ignorant bs,,,, why am I not surprised...

KT would have started as a Soph, but was injured. That opened the door for the other QB. He was a small, very fast QB/RB that was a near perfect fit for a HS Spread offense.

His HS coach said that he gave KT the 3rd and 7th series in the games, not just garbage backup time. He also advised KT to xfer because he would be a starter anywhere else. KT said that he liked his teammates, his town, and that he didn't want to go elsewhere.

Now, are you unable to look at what KT did in HS, and how he did in the Spring game, and then evaluate him on his merits, or do you just want to continue to spew out ignorant bs in some vain attempt to score message board points?

Are you really comparing starting a true freshman at RB and staring a true freshman at QB?

My goodness .

The KT you are talking about is now in the NFL.
The KT that I'm talking about is a Gator QB. o_O
oH. I get that you think the lad is great. But a true freshman, starting for his first time at Knoxville is not a recipe for success.

Blanket statements are rarely true, but that's never stopped anyone from continuing to make them... ;)

Ironic given that you can't differentiate between a true freshman qb and rb, especially given the qb wasn't even a starter. What's even more impressive is your apparent supposition that a meaningless stream of stats is the same thing as critical thinking.

Well thank you zen-has-been, for your own 'overly critical' thinking assessment.

HAve you watched Tennessee play? They are soft everywhere and bad on defense, if we lose that game even with Applebees we just aren't a good football team.

And so it begins.

At least a full week of insta promoting Trask with every stroke of the keyboard he can manage.

Gonna be a long week.

Well, you could always eat S... and die, :p then you'd be spared from my postings. I would suggest that you still have the IGNORE option available, as do my other detractors, (that never read my posts anyway, but always have an opinion on them), but we know that's not going to happen.... o_O

I think, like I'm the only one? Didn't the OC say that he was as good or better than any 5 star that he'd scouted? But maybe he's a liar, or just an incompetent idiot?

Much like a Gator tFr QB could never go into Death Valley at night, in a season when LSU would only have 1 loss while winning the BCS-NC, and get the win, right?

BTW, that same tFr QB beat 3 consecutive Top 11 ranked teams, on the road, with a Zookster HBC, to sweeten that 'can never happen' pot...

And IF they aren't going to win anyway, then what difference does it make who plays QB. Maybe they should really throw them a curve ball and start Gronto V? ;)

Kevin Carter and Jason Seahorn both had some insightful comments today. They both said that Tennessee players are very undisciplined on the little things and witnessed by pre snap and post snap penalties. They blamed that on coaching

They have played to the level of their comp so far which seems to be a trait of a Jones coached team...you will get the best effort the Vols will have given to this point...trust me. Did you see what VT did to BC yesterday? Vols will come with fire and some new wrinkles...bank on it.

^^^Waltz I appreciate your optimism considering 11 years of heartbreak. I think you guys probably end the streak, but imo it won't be because of "wrinkles"; but simply because you manned up and punched us in the mouth!

Until you guys show some self respect and refuse to lose, I don't know if you can end this streak.

That is usually what you need to do to beat bitter rivals...

Another backup Purdue QB transfer has lit a bit of a fire at LSU in Etling. Why can't ours?

Tennessee is a 3:30 game
I was referring to the LSU game when true freshmen Chris Leak went on the road and beat a SEC team or comparing it to this weekend's game. Insta said night game. That game was 2:30 Baton Rogue time.

Not taking anything away from that performance by Leak. Just pointing out the mistake.

They are due. The oracle has seen it. Schedule yardwork next week. 11 years of payback is coming.

I agree they are due but I think our defense delays them winning for another year. They are going to have to beat us in the turnover dept to win this game.

being due doesn't go past 4 years in football, kentucky was due as well x 100000

it's just a tradition now

I want to believe that is why Treon didn't run and gameplans weren't adjusted. But I am more inclned to go with the fact Saban assitants seem to show little flexibility and are far more likely to stick with there system.

Our defense will keep us in it, but our O can't win it. Unless we have multiple defensive scores we will not win.

I think this is a tad pessimistic. I don't think UT's that good. They will struggle to move the ball too.
