Florida head coaches through their first 32 games. Steve Spurrier: 26-6 Urban Meyer: 26-6 Dan Mullen: 26-6

Meyer took over a much better roster than Mullen did.
Too bad Mullen brought 3rd and Grantham to Gainesville.
Spurrier and Meyer also won an SEC title in their 2nd season. I still say UF was the actual SEC champs in 1990 as well.

Looking back and evaluating everything. Spurrier came into the hardest of the situations. I know Mullen came into a septic tank left behind by McChamp.

Spurs came in as Blobby was adding the shingles to the dynasty. Miami was trimming the hedges of their dynasty. Bama was riding the high silver horse of Gene Stallings. UT was transitioning from Majors to Fulmer...who was about to take the Dollywooders to the best years they've seen in decades. AU was transitioning from Dye to Tater tot Bowden who would pull out a little magic. Sure LSU was a train wreck and UGA was wallowering in mediocre. SCar was the new kid on the block and hadn't hit pubity yet. Vanderbilt was Vanderbilt. Ole Miss was Ole Missing appearing and disappearing. MSU was seeing some of their best success ever although we later found was due to cheating. Still, Spurrier came in while the two rivals in the state were in or nearing dynasty mode and while UT and Bama were hitting strides.

Granted Dan did come right in the middle of the greatest dynasty of modern times happening in Alabama, came in while LSU found lightening in a bottle, and while UGA was at what appears to be their peak. But FSU is down and Miami may be fair but are nothing to what they were of the 80's/early-mid 90's.

All that said, Mullen will do great and I'm glad he is on our side.

If we still had Felipe at QB, I wouldn't like our chances vs KY jelly. I'm still puzzled as to what Dan Mullen was thinking with Trask and Emory on the bench last year vs UK, and Miami.

Good chance that Mullen is actually going to have a better record than Meyer and Spurrier after 34 games. Pretty crazy if he does.

Because Frank's had started in high school and played a good bit in college by that time.

Trask was a back up for 6 years.

I don't know why that's confusing.

wven if Trask looked better in practice, you have always be suspicious of that.

Can Newton looked awful in practice, especially passing the ball.

Jon Brantley looked very good. To the point, that in 2009, people (the media, even) were asking if Brantley was actually one of the top 3 QBs in the league and he only was starting because he was sitting behind Tebow.

now, to be fair, Jon ended up finding himself in an absolutely shit situation the two years that he started.

the worst thing I can remember, even when Skyler Morningwheg was starting for us, was whatever offense Urban Meyer trotted out in 2010 that involved Trey Burton and Jordan Reed pretending to be QBs on first and second down, then to have poor Jon Brantley show up on 3rd and 12 to pass the ball.

unbelievable.

I'll never forget Meyer telling people that he could change the offense when Tebow was gone to suit Brantley.

yeah....well...no....no you didn't Urban. You hobbledtogether a disinterested abomination.

FWIW I wasn’t a huge Franks fan but I think he gets a little bit more knocks against him than he maybe deserves. He was the QB at UF so it comes with the territory when you play QB at UF.

This year many people think Franks is having a good year at Arkansas. Do you know his QB rating was higher last year at UF then it is now at Arky. Also his QB rating last year was 173.4 before he got injured. That is actually a very good QB rating. If you have a QB rating of 173.4 that is probably very good for 90% of the fanbases around the country. It’s just a little bit different here at UF due to our history at that position.

Like I said, behind your OL this year and the way Mullen is getting guys open Franks would be having a third round type of year. He’s not a terrible QB, you’re just in a Dolphins position trying to find another Marino (Tebow).

I actually think we would have the same record with Franks as QB as we do with Trask. Maybe we have 2 losses instead of 1. We obviously wouldn’t be as good on offense and blowing teams out like we are and Franks wouldn’t be putting up the stats that Trask is but probably good enough to still be having a good season.

LMAO,talk about contradicting yourself ,four different times in one paragraph, that`s not easy to do.Lets not forget Trask also has a really good shot at winning The Heisman this year,Frank`s wouldn`t even be considered.

Did I ever say Franks would be having the season Trask is? Of course he wouldn’t be. I still think we would be winning games but maybe not as impressively. And no Franks wouldn’t be up for the Heisman either but Mullen wouldn’t be running the same offense we are running right now. Mullen has shown he will run whatever offense best fits the skills set of the QB and the players around them. Do you think we will run the same offense next with Emory Jones or Anthony Richardson?

Yea it seems to also be forgotten that Trask had back luck with injuries that kept him from competing for the job too. He got injured late in 2017 and missed most of the 2018 spring which was Dan Mullen's first. You aren't going to be able to miss almost all of spring then be named the starter in the fall, especially when learning a new system. You're too far behind. Then during the 2018 season Mullen benched Franks against Mizzou and played Trask. He was about to start the next game then got injured in practice and missed the rest of the year. Then Franks finished strong and helped us win 10 games so it made sense for him to start 2019.

This idea that Mullen just had some undying loyalty to Franks and was too dumb to play Trask just isn't factual. Seemed like every time Trask was gonna get a shot he was injured.

well insta did hint at a couple Of times that there was some sort of mafia like element that was keeping Frank's starting.

That 173.4 did include the game against TN-Martin. That will skew the numbers a bit.
