Arkansas just hired Chad Morris.

Gotta say I am almost forced to believe there is truth to the rumors about Norvell not coming back clear when his SEC check was run

Chad Morris could be a problem.

The names in that division are stout outside of the Mississippi schools (and MSU may have gotten a good one. Penn State fans seem pretty bummed out that he’s leaving.)

Saban
Malzahn
Jimbo
Orgeron (surprised me with the way he rebounded after Troy)

It could be but then again he didn't have the players at all on that roster to fit his scheme and facing the likes of Saban, LSU, Malzhan, etc you need a head start. He earned a $3 million contract at Memphis with a whole lot less pressure. He will eventually land on a ready made job like Fuente did before him. Now he has Herman, Rhule, and Frost out of the way his job just got easier. Who is UCF after? It will be him and Chuck Strong competing for the AAC Kings. 4 mil and a good roster returning he will one day step into a job where a coach is riding off into the sunset. Or just stay put for a while and make Bank with less pressure.

He, Neal Brown, and Blake Anderson will be the next hot names the next big go round.

It’s a good list. But the west lost Mullen and Freeze and added Jimbo and Morris. I’m not sure that’s a net gain as far as coaching quality.

I guess the thing to worry about is if Arkansas and A&M are capable of more than the MS schools. In the case of A&M I would think so.

And @Michi-Gator

Don't take any hype I have for Norvell...or Frost...or Brown... Anderson etc as thinking they were a better fit than Mullen. That is Zoni..not me. I was singing Dan Mullen praises for a while. Even wanted him over Chip in some posts way back when.

My only argument with Norvell with you was he is neck and neck with Frost. That showed last Saturday. Not that off game he had way back in late September when he had a depleted defense with recent injuries and Ferguson having his worst game of the season.

Frost's advantage is he comes from a long line of great pedigree. His father was a coach. I believe his older brother Steve was a descent football player who helped mentor him. He played for HOFer Bill Walsh and Tom Osborne. Later for Bill Parcels and Bill Belichick. Coached under Frank Solich and Chip Kelly.

Norvell is pretty much self taught. Grew up fatherless and as the only child. Played at a small school. Worked under Todd Graham...who later crumbled once Norvell left as his play caller. He's not doing too bad with the more shallow background.

And I'm still curious to hell what this rumor is on Norvell and what it is he can't pass in the SEC. The same conference that said they will pass Chip Kelly and would probably give a pass to Hugh Freeze.

Memphis has a local radio host who works for CBS Sports Gary Parrish...who is great friends with local writer for the Commercial Appeal Geoff Calkins who thrive off making a daily career of running off Tubby Smith. They played a huge role of running off Josh Pastner. Even helped break the dirt of Pastner's connection to the dirt with the guy giving money to Georgia Tech players. They haven't found any dirt at all on Norvell and sing his praise daily. If anyone would be on this like flies on ish it would be these two.

Maybe he doesn't wanna leave? Plenty of big schools, including us, tried to poach him away as OC from ASU and he turned down big offers for years before landing at Memphis. He might just be the type of dude who doesn't run to the big shiny job. I'm not believing anything about rumors because this conference has and will continue to have a bunch of shady coaches.

He wanted that Arkansas job. Maybe Arky just wanted Morris more.

You know this how? Because his wife grew up near Fayetteville? They have a "vacation" home close to Fayetteville. His wife attended Central Arkansas as did Mike.

Arkansas snubbed him out of high school and as a grad assistant.

Dude got off the plane from the championship in Orlando and hit the ground running recruiting some players for Memphis. Went to a JC Bowl in Kansas early Sunday.

None of us know what he "wanted". Regardless Arkansas chose a good one, the two are equally comparable.

I know one thing he doesn't want is UT. He doesn't want to burn any Bridges taking that gig.

Voice of reason.

I love SEC football but it's the same league that didn't hesitate to approve Chip Kelly, John Calipari, and Bruce Pearl. And wouldn't hesitate to approve Hugh Freeze.

Some think every coach is supposed to jump on every SEC job or such. Folks are turning down UT left and right from places like Duke, Purdue, and NC State.

Chris Pederson waited on what was right for him.

The guy is now making 3 million a year, has an assistant pool of 2 million. Win 8-9 games a year and he will be a folk lore hero.

Maybe something may possibly come out on him but because he isn't going through coaching assembly line schools UT and Arkansas.

Name me this, how many coaches from the 2015 season are left in the SEC West? Answer is TWO. TWO. Let that sink in as far as security. Out of the the other 5 only one upgraded a job... All else were fired.

Rumor is gambling debt...or some sexual encounter with a co-ed while he was at Tulsa.

Things like this stay so secretive these days. o_O:rolleyes:

Let's purchase a lake house in the Ozarks and not pay off my gambling debt to keep my name clear and keep me from potential big job openings...yeah makes perfect sense.

Edit: oh and turned down a raise last year that would have paid off at least half of the debt...only to give it all to his assistant and staff members.
