Acutally an AK-47 is a semi-auto with a selector switch to go to full auto, just like an AR-15 is.
Couldn't remember if the akm was the one with the safety/selector switch.
Most that I'm aware of are like this:
Machine Guns are full auto.
Assault Rifles are either semi or auto with a selector switch.
Bolt Action are single shot.
Shotguns follow the rifle pattern with all 3.
Pistols come in semi-auto, some few with a full auto selector switch.
Revolvers can be single action, must cock before firing, or semi auto with one shot per trigger pull.

only type 1 I ever saw in the wild had two selector switches.
Even in Africa AKMs were the norm.
Double action revolvers can be cocked for a better trigger pull or each trigger pull cocks the hammer and rotates the cylinder.
