I know people think it's an overreaction, because people die at a higher rate with the regular flu. However, as a radio head pointed out, unlike the flu, there isn't a vaccine yet for this new virus. Also medical testing supplies is lacking. That's a deadly double whammy.

I respect this decision if it even prevents one death. It will be a new experience to see the games on tv(.....if that is available) with almost empty arenas, but it's for the greater good.

Avg age of desth from corona is 82 in Italy..... So and 70 and below is welcome (should he the case). Most who have the virus wont even know that they do. We dont want to stop the spread because its dangerous, we want to stop the spread so the virus dies and we dont have the flu AND this corona virus.

.....both of those things go hand in hand.

As for the age of people who get infected with it, I find it no less important than if the average age was 18. Even so, plenty of people died from it at a younger age, including a doctor in China who was at ground zero, so to speak.

99% of peoppe who have died from it are old people who would die if they caught the flu or people who had underlying condition. The other 1% of people may have had an underlying co dition they didnt know about.

The people who go to the games can be responsible for the elderly getting it. Frankly, I love my grandparents, and I assume many do as well. I can't justify the games being open to the public if it causes even one extra preventable death, regardless of age.

You cant shut down the entire country, but you can limit the spread of this virus.

I think a big misconception is if u r old....u immediately die from it. Thats not true. Typical old people are dying from it not becuz they are old but becuz they are already weak. If ur grandparents are already weak, then they shouldnt go to the game

They are pretty weak these days. They definitely aren't going. My concern would be for such cases for the weak elderly to get it because of somebody else who went to the game.

This is dumb logic. So we should cancel all games when there is a snow storm because someone's car might slide on the ice and they could die in a traffic accident? But don't stop there, also when there is a rain storm. But don't stop there, just the heavy traffic due to a big game can cause a fatal accident.
Using this logic, moving forward fans should never be allowed to attend games ever again.
The purpose of closing the games to the public is to stop the SPREAD of the virus that could result in NUMEROUS deaths.

Before you call something dumb, perhaps you should understand the issue. This isn't like a regular virus. This doesn't have a vaccine yet. What's more is that the CDC has said there is much they dont know about it. This is a virus that originated in an animal......and even more concerning is that they aren't sure which animal to be exact. Anything that originates in an animal should be taken seriously.

It's because there is so many unknowns, they are careful to be proactive rather than reactive. They dont know if this virus could further mutate into something worse/more lethal.

Last night I was in the car on the way to work and one caller on a radio show used a very similar car example that you used. It was epic on how he was mocked and i wish i could have gotten a clip of it had i known someone else out there would use the example just as foolishly. There was even a dude whose job it was to study pathogens that called the dude out for his flippant attitude.

And that's what I implied. Here you are trying to disagree with me on one side of your mouth with your car example.....and on the other side of your mouth here you are saying as much as I have said.

Make up your mind where you draw the line in the sand before you quote me. Thanks

It's clear you are not understanding what I am calling dumb. I'm not calling it dumb to not allow fans. That is prudent...to try to contain the virus as much as possible and hopefully prevent wide-spread cases, and thus deaths.
I'm calling the "If it prevents just one death it is worth it" logic dumb. If that is the logic, we would all wrap ourselves in bubble wrap and live out our lives.

Games do get canceled due to weather

Reasonable precautions

Games that already started get stopped due to lightning

You are trying to make a point but missed the mark on this one

Because there is still a lot of unknowns here, as well as an exponential spread threat, simply trying to slow that down. It stinks, and death is always a risk in life, but the Italian spread is scary. Hopefully scientists are working their asses off as we speak to come up with something, although they have already said it could take over a year

But a few weeks breather and reassessment is not a bad idea

More liberal hysterics, eh Ghost?

All the more reason why the football season has to be cancelled. Spring practice is starting right now, if it's not safe to play basketball then it absolutely isn't safe to be practicing football right now.

Inciting a panic has consequences.

I personally think its an overreaction but older people with underlying conditions do need to try and avoid getting this stuff. I guess a ban on only people over 60 with medical issues and those that are around them would be illegal however.

My Big Screen LED TV, with a frig wid beer, and a clean restroom nearby is hunky-dorry for me. Play the games without a physical crowd until the coast is clear of the Co-V.

ALL SEC sporting events cancelled until March 30. No games at all, anywhere.

They should just quarantine the old farts sick or not and let the rest of us still have fun....

You do realize 'old farts' were already at risk for the common flu for the same reasons as corona virus, right?

Which is a huge reason why sane people are shaking their heads at the media-driven panic.

You really are an imbecile when it comes to politics...

Whether you agree with the cancellation actions or not, or whether you personally think this virus presents a threat to populations or not,

You can not deny that this is a worldwide health crisis. No single media source (whatever its political lean) is driving a panic any more than any other for any other purpose than that this story has a global effect (in all areas of our lives financially, socially, and health-wise)....

Take off your political dunce cap for once in your life and recognize that there are some things that are bigger than promoting an agenda...

61 MILLION Americans were infected with Swine Flu, 12,000 died. No media panic.

39 Americans have died from corona flu. 'Worldwide health crisis'.

Tell me again who is wearing blinders.

The media induced “panic” clearly forced your President to declare a National State of Emergency...

would you be happier referring to it as a “National Health Crisis” now? Blinders indeed...

This mess is being overhyped. Wait and see by mid-May it will be subsiding big time and have no 12k deaths here attributed to it while the flue has killed like 25k weakened people so far this season in the US I think I read.

Trump asked for 2.5 Billion to help prepare for the Co-V nationwide.

The Dim-Moe-Rats instead demanded an 8.5 Billion appropriation, to fund their further taxpayer slush funds, (since their Ukraine slush fund has been shut down).
Now watch that 8,500 Million dollars disappear like it was magic....

I'd be happier if your party didn't create a panic over the flu to try to wreak the US economy, just cause they don't like the policies of the Republican President.

Hating Trump more than they love America is not a good look for your party.

Altho i dont think that is what they did here, i do believe that is true. They are sellouts to get votes from anyone other than white guys because they know their policies suck. 2 of my blk friends always say it best "they try to make me feel like im a bad person if i dont vote for them" and i agree. They have done nothing for 4 yrs except try to say how bad Trump is. The democratic run co gress is a joke, we have gotten nothi g done.

I think we need to quarantine cars.............
There were 33,654 fatal motor vehicle crashes in the United States in 2018 in which 36,560 deaths occurred. This resulted in 11.2 deaths per 100,000 people and 1.13 deaths per 100 million miles traveled.

:eek::rolleyes:

Ban all vehicles that can go more than 10% faster than the legal speed limit... ;)

3,010 total Co-V cases in the U.S. reported by CDC with only 61 deaths.
That's a 1.7% death rate so far, almost entirely in the group with the greatest vulnerability.
Babies and young children seem to be immune, reasons for that are unknown so far.

But still, the Dim-Moe-Rats and the 'Never Tumper's' are still running their 'Drama Queen Circus' at full tilt...

The trend line for % of deaths is going down. Remember that 25 of those initial deaths were from 1 nursing home which is an outlyer of sorts. It's the worst case scenario just when we got started.

If you take those out it's less than 1% and seemingly going down, day to day at least. As of today it's more like 3500 cases with the same 60+ dying.
