So just got home from the game

They are closer to awful than they are to good. Ha ha.

Not really. It’s the same issues as last year for them, really good defense and an offense and special teams that can’t get out of the way. Miami outgained UNC 2-1 but their kicker missed two FG’s and an extra point. That’s 7 points right there off bad special teams. Hard to win like that.

Not only did Leak have the better team around him, he was also in year 2 with Tebow to help with all his shortcomings (short yardage, running load, etc.). Franks was in year 1 with a worse team and nobody to spell him and give the offense a jump when he wasn’t producing. But why let facts get in the way.

The intraweb use to be really really fun - now we all have to be 100% for this guy or 100% against that guy.

You can both support Franks - think he's a good kid - see he's making strides - not like how he acts at times - know he's a good rep for the university. None of these are mutually exclusive.

We'll see but no matter how u lose you still lose.

I personally don’t think Miami is very good. Very good on defense but so so on offense. We played horrible against them and we played very conservative for some reason.

I’ll take the W because they are Miami and they are an in-State rival but I don’t think they will have a good year and I don’t think Manny Diaz is head coach material.

Yeah but come on - there were like 45 future NFL players on that Leak team...not so much with Franks.

Franks has one of the better WR groups UF has ever had probably despite the numbers not suggesting that. Franks just doesn't see the field well and just dinks and dunks mostly with a few deep throws each game. His numbers last season were dreadful when the ball was thrown 6 to 15 yards past the line of scrimmage on those intermediate throws.

...and who was coaching Leak when he started putting up incredibly productive offensive numbers and was playing his best?...hmmmm...

Well, to be fair, as a true Fr with Zook in 2003, Leak was at that time the only tFr in NCAA history to beat 3 consecutive Top 11 opponents (LSU-Ark-UGly) on the road. Leak won at LSU and the tigers went on to win the 2003 NC.

Lol no we don’t. This WR group isn’t even top 2 in the conference, arguable top 3, but it’s one of UF’s best groups ever? Y’all overrate the players on this team so much to be able to pass blame.

Well the media loved to say they were 2nd to Bama's group in conference but usually did say they wont show the yards because of the plays (Franks). Smith, Tebow or Prescott would have great passing numbers if they had these receivers in Mullen's system imo.

The media can say what they want. There’s not one 1st rounder in that WR group. Calling them one of the best ever at UF is crazy. They don’t touch 08’ especially if you include Hernandez. Hell even the 05’ group with Caldwell, Chad Jackson, etc. are better. And don’t even get me started on Spurriers groups.

This WR core has a bunch of good players so they’re deep numbers wise. But there’s no even real #1 receiver on this team. They’d be depth at Bama. People just overrate them period Franks isn’t keeping them from being some dominating unit.

Going from "awful" to "we'll see" is back pedaling. I predict them to be "good" by season's end...
I didn't go from my opinion of them being awful to my opinion of we'll see. I said we'll see in reference to someone who thought they were good. I don't hvae to argue everything. I'm allowing the guy (can't remember if it was you or someone else) to state their opinion and I respectfully said "we'll see" as in we'll see who is right. So far they are 0-2 so why would I backpedal when I am right so far. Ha ha.

I'm not going to argue if they are overrated or not, but Athlon named them the #3 WR group in the nation, so it's not just Gator fans saying it.

I know. And Steele rated them high too. But a lot of that is based on their experience and our numbers. We have 6 seniors who have all played. They’re a solid group top to bottom but there’s no elite playmaker in the group.

In 06 Leak had Dallas Baker, J Cornelius, Cornelius Ingram, Bubba Caldwell, Percy Harvin, Riley Cooper, Brandon James, and David Nelson. Kenneth Tookes, Justin Williams, and Jamar Hornsby were also on that roster and they weren't slaw on talent. Tate Casey was another dependable target.

Everyone in the first sentence made a NFL roster with the exception of Jamelle Cornelius. Leak didn't have a lack of talent to pass to.

Edit: Louis Murphy as well. Loaded talent pass catchers.

You know, you don't really need a #1 receiver in college ball. If you have 3 #2's then somebody is lined up against the #3 cover guy. Just find that mismatch. And run guys deep all game. You will wear out the top cover guys.

Jemale Cornelius did play in the pros a bit. He plays for the Bill, Cardinals and Colts

One of them had ZERO drops in 2018, another had just 1 drop in 2018.

Athlon Rated the UF WR group as #2 SEC and #7 in all of D1.

Each of us as individuals has a right to our own opinions, so they are just an average to good group in ozzies's opinion. Who cares what our individual opinions are? Nobody, that's who.

It's still very early in the season (only 2 Gms) but here are the stats so far:

Hammond - 8 for 115 yds, 14.4 yds/rec, L-65

Jefferson - 5 for 108 yds, 21.6 yds/rec, L-69, 1 TD

Toney - 3 for 72 yds, 24.0 yds/rec, L-66, 1 TD

Grimes - 6 for 66 yds, 11.0 yds/rc, L-23

Cleveland - 4 for 65 yds, 16.3 yds/rec, L-35, 1 TD

RB Perine - 9 for 40 yds, 4.4 yds/rec, L-8, 1 TD

TE Pitts - 5 for 36 yds, 7.2 yds/rec, L-18,

Wells - (1 Gm) 2 for 27 yds, 13.5 yds/rec, L-24

Copeland - 3 for 23 yds, 7.7 yds/rec, L-9, 1 TD

Swain - 1 for 10 yds

RB Wright - (1 Gm) 1 for 4 yds

Team - 47 for 566 yds, 12.04 yds/rec, L-69, 5 TD's, 283 yds/gm.
11 different players with a reception.
7 are averaging 10+ yds/rec.
5 different players with a TD.
3 different players have 65+ yard receptions.

JMOHO, but every one of those guys could be a starter on some other SEC team.
Bama might be the only exception to that claim, but do keep in mind that Saban offered several of them...

In theory, I like your idea. But we simply do not have the OLine to hold off the opposing D for long, but utilizing that premise when possible is good and probably utilized to some degree.

Well, the progression would have to start with the #3 guy. I mean, Franks looks over the defense, finds the guy he wants to pick on, and starts his progression there. And you're right, it's a theory, but not too implausible, I don't think.

sadgator thinks the receivers we have right now are VERY good. The year ain’t even three games in yet...where they rank all time at Florida is still yet to be determined...

Not only that but to another's point, Mullen's will almost never have 1 guy (outside of a Percy) that dominates the stats. The game plan is to have 8-10 guys catching passes.

As the Gator OC, Mullen had a 3,000+ yard rushing season,,, without a single player rushing for over 1,000 yards.

The same kind of system goes for the receivers. It's a TEAM effort, and I like it that way...
