Should Florida-Georgia be nuetral site?

https://www.gatorsports.com/2019/07...-on-both-sides-for-future-of-florida-georgia/

According to Kirby Smart it hurts his recruiting, he obviously is wanting it moved to either Atlanta or to each teams home stadium.

Dan Mullen is open minded, seeing both sides.. The game brings 36 million dollars to Northern Florida, Georgia Isles annually.. The first meeting took place in 1936 in Jackonville.
I doubt he wants Atlanta. He wants that extra huge recruiting weekend every other year.

Atlanta accomplishes zero. If it’s gonna be in an NFL stadium might as well stay where it is. He wants Athens hen Georgia is home. Gators can do what they want when it’s their turn.

I can’t believe that douchebag is going to ruin the cocktail party. F him.

This just tells you he’s out for himself and that’s it. He’ll probably be gone to the NFL or to Bama in three years and the cocktail party will be dead. F him.

How is this about Kirby? Damn you guys are all hissy fitting about anything to do with him. He won’t get it changed if the money bags don’t want it to.

Why does he keep crying about it? Recruiting weekend? Give me a break. He gets s top 3 class every year. What plying Florida in North Florida doesn’t help recruiting? The game is way bigger than him. If Spurrier can play at a neutral site, Kirby can play at a neutral site.

I see now reading the article that Mullen is saying the same thing. To which I say, I love Dan Mullen but the game is bigger than him too. Neither Mullen or Smart is a big enough deal to move the cocktail party.

Basically. That game was there before both and will be there after both. Neither one of them have accomplished shit to be ruining one of the best sites in college football. It’s one of 3 neutral site games in the country.

The recruiting excuse is bullshit. They could simply allow official visitors to the game like OU and Texas does. And both teams lose money moving the game.

You know the Georgia and Florida admins have to love it though. Both coaches making comments about moving the game. That’s a huge bargaining chip.

I mean forget about sporting events, you are talking about one of the great gatherings of people. I used to live in Jacksonville, and I partied in the RVs all week. Florida and UGA campers. I’ve literally gotten in fistfights with Georgia fans during the game and then drank tequila and smoked weed with them all night. The cocktail party should not be messed with.

Neither team has recruits visiting on official visits in Jacksonville.
Seems like a lost opportunity for both schools.. It's a great environment, I'll have to look, but I believe Texas vs Oklahoma has no such prohibiting rule disallowing recruits in their nuetral game showdown.

Hearing Mullen it wouldn't surprise me if they change things in 2022. Mullen doesn't care but Smart seems to want it changed and they get the first home game in that scenario.

The Florida-Georgia game is a tradition of college football which has been played at the Florida-Georgia border (aka Jacksonville, FL) since 1933. With 50-50 attendance from both fan bases, this is like a great bowl game in the middle of the college football season.

You will lose the uniqueness & feel of this game if it just moves back to the campuses.

Why mess this up to to satisfy the ego of some coach?
If this game really 'hurts' Georgia's recruiting than I say good - let's keep it in Jacksonville just to annoy Kirby! Lol!

Also, if Jacksonville is the problem, the Georgia people could try building a city that rivals the size/amenities offered by Jacksonville near the Georgia-Florida border. They could always spruce up Valdosta, Georgia and have the game there! Lol!

Ha ha. I know ur joking but have u actually ever been to Jacksonville. It woukd have to be spruced up to match Valdosta. Ha ha.

I think they both agree not to do it. I don't think (but could be wrong) there is any rule against it. I think they don't do it for logistical purposes and both schools feel like official visits on campus are much more effective.

For the record I hope they keep the game in Jacksonville. I'm not a big fan of the city but love the neutral game atmosphere.

Honestly, sadgator hasn’t attended Florida-Georgia in Jax since 1996...

It really was never the same once they renovated the Gator Bowl and went from quarter crowd sections to halves...

While it’s fun, sadgator thinks the entire event is a bit overrated as a college football “tradition.” It wouldn’t break sadgator’s heart if the series went home and home, especially if that means we could drop shameful games against teams like Towson...

I have been to both places. Personally, I have gone to two FL-GA games - once as a student, my last year at UF and one a few years later (i.e, the Lito Sheppard int return game).

There are a lot of 'bad' areas in Jax just like any other city both big and small.

However, the areas near the stadium seem to be pretty good: i.e, the Jacksonville Landing, the bridges going over the Jacksonville River to reach the stadium, the Atlantic Ocean nearby, etc. All of that makes for a picturesque venue for a good/great college football game.

Valdosta is also a nice place to stop right before the welcome center at the FL-GA border.

You're right. His primary concerns should be the Jax economy and providing yet another venue for people to get $hitfaced.

Funny thing is that on most quality of life scales Jax scores ahead of the ATL. Had the misfortune of living in the ATL for 3 years, what a god awful place.

I love Atlanta. Been in Tampa for the last three years. We always thought we’d want to retire in FL, but not after living here. We will just visit the beaches when we want and then get out. Atlanta traffic blows, and its getting worse, but I love the climate, the neighborhoods, the stuff there. I lived there 25 years right out of college so I am biased.

I lived in Tampa for 4 1/2 years myself. Not sure if it is lucky, or unlucky, but I have lived in Jax, Orlando, WPB, Tampa, Nashville, Atlanta, Leesburg VA, Columbus Oh, and now DC. I know each to his own, but ATL was the worst place of all for us. There is no sense of community in ATL. We found the people there to be self absorbed. We did like the look of most neighborhoods, but the reality of ATL is that north of ATL is about the only livable areas. South, east and west can be dangerous. My office was in Midtown and there were some cool places around that area.

We were in Gwinnett, hence my handle. Lived in Suwanee and absolutely loved it. 85 is a complete disaster but we loved our little section. And we knew lots of great areas for food and whatever. True about the community part. It’s a transplant town with people from all over. If you are in DC there’s a great energy there but I assume kind of the same as far as people coming and going and no sense of community. Maybe the VA burbs are different. We are about to move to the Youngstown, OH area so I suspect I will soon appreciate what we had in Tampa.

Most of the areas around major metropolitan areas suck...

In almost 50 years of life, sadgator’s never lived in one place that he actually liked except Gainesville...

That probably means sadgator is a juvenile asshole...but it is what it is...

UGA fans has been complaining about this for YEARS. It's basically a home game for both teams. People come and stay for an entire week for this game and it's always a big time game. There are just as many UGA fans as there are UF fans. Hurts UGA's recruiting? lmfao....this is where the 4th down fake punt call comes from.

Getting on a plane is not what you do for a home game. Your guys take a bus ride over. It’s probably more like a bowl game than a home game.

Monday July 22, 2019 -- From Pat Dooley of the Gainesville Sun.
25 Things I learned from Media Days...

6. There was a lot of talk about the possibility of Florida-Georgia moving to the campuses. Most of it was by people who don’t understand the dynamics of it, whether it’s the south Georgia boosters who wield power to keep it in Jacksonville or the purely financial reasons it makes sense to stay. I’m sure in four years when they have SEC Media Days on the moon, they’ll be talking about moving it again. I wrote a big story about the chances it might move … in 1983. It’s not going anywhere. o_O

He may be Fat Drooley to me, but even a blind hog can still find the occasional acorn.... :D

If you guys fly your players in then it's because that's easier. Either way if you bus to your stadium from somewhere local or fly to a game there is no real difference...either way...when your fans have 1/2 of the seats in the stadium it's as much of a home game for your team as it is for the other. There is no issue with your fans traveling either...it's a 5.5 hour drive from Athens but of course tons of fans aren't driving just from Athens area either. You guys act like children when this topic comes up....apparently Smart has fell right in line with the UGA thinking.

A neutral site in border town with a 50/50 ticket split, is not a home game for either team. o_O

IF Savanna has a big enough stadium, I'd be fine with rotating the game there, so UGly could have a home game every other year...

I wouldn't G-a-S either way, but H&H sounds just fine to me....

1994 @ UF 52 - 14 UGly (-38)

1995 UF 52 - 17 @ UGly (-35) -- That big 3 Pt home field advantage...

Yikes. Youngstown not a great area. But you are halfway between Pitt and Cleveland so you can get to pro sporting events. The weather in ohio is awful, but not so much the cold, the gray. The sun disappears in October and doesnt come back out until April. DC is an interesting place. We are right smack in the middle of the city.
