Roundball Tourney Thread

I just hope MONDAY's refs are better. GEEZ I have never seen such a game like this in my entire life. I am 56 years old, a former football and basketball player. UF didn't beat Auburn they beat these REFS, plain and simple.

These REFS were keeping this close for VEGAS.

I'm hoping UF has a better night come Monday!

Walter Clayton put the team on his back the 2nd half, but all of the guys stepped up their defensive pressure and did a much better job of rebounding the last 20 minutes. Great comeback & huge win for the Gators. Will need Condon to wake up for Monday night, though. Hard to find fault with making it to the title game, though. Gooo Gators!

They certainly weren't doing us hardly any favors.

He contributed a lot on the 2nd half on the defensive end. Just not much offensively. Broom had something to do with that also. He just has to get going earlier in the game.

That Broome guy is a good player…it’s too bad he talks so much sh!t…
Just like the Texas Tech player, Darrion Williams with his premature celebrations.

Houston is playing like they're just happy to be there. Flagg is embarrassing them.

I mean.. What can you even say anymore, what words could possibly do justice to just how special and gritty and brave this team is.. They are fearless Champions in my book no matter what happens, I will never forget this team.

Also, I told y'all with how we're so used to getting ****ed in the ass by the officials it would backfire on them in this tournament.. Abra...... cadabra

We wore them down the 2nd half, especially Broome. Ramped up the defense, ran it more, hit the boards harder, turned them over a lot and just took the game away from them. Todd Golden is an excellent coach who fights for his guys and has a way of making the right adjustments. Special team and Walter Clayton is the REAL DEAL!

That first 10 minutes of the first half rebounding was inconsequential. Neither team was missing anything much. Things started eroding with UF turnovers and nobody giving help against Broome in the paint. But I think the cumulative effect of putting a fresh body on him the entire game wore him out and Broome was ineffective most of the second half, and no free kickouts to wide open shooters for 3s either. The long game worked out for Golden and us Gator fans. A Mike White team would have lost this game by 25.

Excellent summary.

It is really interesting how this team just seems to turn it up a notch defensively with like 12 minutes or so to go…they seem to do it every time….

Never take making an NCAA Basketball Tournament championship game for granted…it is one of the hardest things to do in sport…savor this moment in our lives…and celebrate the opportunity of seeing Florida play in the final game…you never know when (or if) this moment will come for us again…

sadgator is toasting this team this late evening…

I think the difference between Duke & Houston was the youth of Duke (their 2 best players are freshmen and they start 3) compared to the maturity and experience of Houston. Duke was bigger, longer, plays great defense, passes the ball well, limits turnovers, shoots well and had more individual talent. But Houston is relentless, rebounds extremely well, keeps coming at you, plays well together, also plays great defense and shot it well when needed. Their 3 starting guards all shoot 40% from the arc. But their maturity was the difference, IMO. Lots of similarities to Florida and they will be a tough opponent.

I think our guards stack up well and are probably a decent advantage for us but not sure how the bigs do especially with Condon's play so far in the tournament.

Anyone have a guess on the fan numbers for each team in this game? It's a home state game for Houston but I am sure Duke fans had already bought a lot of those tickets. Curious who a lot of those tickets they sell go to.

I will say Duke got screwed after the missed FT by the ref tagging Flagg with a foul.
It could be but how many times have I seen it go the other way. Duke has had their share of favorable calls over the years. That one play is not why Duke lost. They lost because of inexperience, they were playing against men and in crunch time folded like a tent.
