Roundball Tourney Thread

Need this Elite 8 win for Golden to cement his legacy early on. Perception wise making the Final Four is what does it. In basketball it's considered a very big deal. Curious to see if TN can make their first ever Final Four as that has weighed on their coach since he hasn't done it yet there.
As Ernie Johnson mentioned Ole Miss, I heard him say "Ole Miss has never made it to the Elite Eight, and they certainly won't get there tonight," as if he was clowning them.

The only reason he won it all in 2012 was his one and doners from the year before decided to return for fear of the NBA lockout. When that happened, his 2012 one and dones only made that team more dangerous. Other than that, it was Calipari blaming inexperience on his early exits from the tournament.

Although UF lost to Kentucky in the SECT in 2012 was the overload of talent vs our 2011 recruits along with freshman Bradley Beal, I believe that was one of Billy Donovan's greatest moments as a coach.

It took UF 4 seasons under Young, Yeguette, Prather and Wilbekin to get to the Final Four. Although we came up short of winning it all, this very class did no worse than the Elite Eight and I can say those were great runs.
I still find it hard to believe Arkansas spent about $10 million to take Calipari off of Kentucky's hands. I seriously doubt he will ever win another championship, especially with the portal as it is. He relies on superstar high school talent, more interested in the NBA than winning in college. The right person in the portal may turn out much better than a raw incoming freshman was has been playing AAU ball.

Our Florida Gators team is an example. I doubt Calipari would have recruited a single one of them out of high school but here we are. Elite Eight and most of the high ranked freshman have gone home.

Very proud of them making it to the Sweet 16 this year since they havent been that far since 2001. They have the 2nd best shooting white boy in college basketball that isnt named Cooper Flagg and his name is Sean Pedulla. They were put out by a Tom Izzo team that is always ready to play and in the second half they did. Hotty Toddy Go Rebels!!!!!!!!

Yep better using most of the NIL on players who are proven or good deals for the amount of NIL. I think there are few one and dones worth the money needed to sign them. Who gives a crap about future potential at that price if the kid will be gone after one season. A few it might be worth the risk but not many.

For your sake, just hope Chris Beard doesn't end up at UNC, Villanova, or at Maryland any day now. If not next season, he's definitely getting a bigger hoops gig somewhere in the near future.

I almost said he would have been better off staying either at UMASS or Memphis but I almost forgot he left both schools before he got slapped with all kinds of sanctions. With Calipari approaching his late 60's, his coaching career will end at Arky.

yessir I'm afraid of that
Then again, he made that program successful in his first year in the SEC of all places. I'm not sure how he's done with recruiting for next season or in the portal but I believe Pedulla and about 3 other starters are graduating.
Personally, I believe he's better off staying in Oxford. With NIL and the portal, UNC, UK and other hoops first schools and their history no longer matters.

He must do a pretty good of coaching and knowing talent cause they are the only D1 school with 6 players averaging 10 points or more a game. Hopefully getting them to the sweet 16 and The Grove Collective will shell out the money to keep him and get players from the portal.

Normally I don't see a point in bitching about the officiating but they have SUCKED this game. Missed calls, allowed shoves under the basket, called BS ticky tacky calls against the Gators. Eff these clowns.

I would leave Haugh on the court until his tongue starts dragging. They are a much better team with him on the floor. I guess Golden rotates him in and out to keep him fresh.

I was too wrapped up in agony watching this game. What I could not figure out is why Chin was out the game a long stretch in the second half. Did he have 4 fouls? We were getting abused in the paint and on the defensive boards while he was out. What did I miss? I thought we were goners with 4 minutes left.

Haugh had a monster performance.

Maryland doesn't need anymore help when they have the big assed Travelin Willbury Queen. 😂

Haugh and Clayton just started nailing 3s at the end.

Are we pulling for Duke or Bama?
Neither here. Although we know the antedote for Bamers since familiar with them. There is nothing left but coin flips here on out. Got to be one of the best final four matchups in tournament history. We dun good no matter what here. One of the best in UF history.

Condon has been struggling some lately.
Could be his ankle, or not. He can have callous disregard for the pigskin, and for a guy who can nail 3s, he sucks at the charity stripe. He is a liability there late in the game when it comes down to hack a Shaq when the other team is behind. He needs some work in the off season on those things.

Puke on Duke. When I was a kid, some frat house in Gainesville had that banner on the front of their house and I've never forgotten it. 😂
I'll never forget those idiot Puke fans chanted "stay with football" during their matchup in Durham back in the 98-99 Gator basketball season. That made me hate Duke even more.

That was actually Haugh nailing threes. Condon doesn't attempt many of them. Let's hope Condon improves on his FT the same way Haugh did, from 61% to 81%.
