Florida point guard Andrew Nembhard will enter the 2019 NBA Draft, but will retain his eligibility and the option to return to Florida for his sophomore season.
=====

Sorry Andrew, but you are not ready for the NBA. There are too many holes in your game yet. If some team were to take you on as a future project type, you would not be playing next year imoho.

Better to play for the Gators while improving your all around game, instead of treading water on some NBA practice roster. JMOHO's of course...(iG)

PS
Good for Mike White to be bringing in PG's Tre Mann and Ques Glover though...

The NBA is ruining the college game.
They need to follow MLB in their drafting.

1. Straight to NBA from HS.
OR
2. After Jr year in college (3rd year) or post age 21.

Laughable. He didn’t hire an agent, so I guess why not? He is not materially more likely than me to be drafted by the NBA.

BG, it's okay for him to test the waters,,, (job market) to see where he is.

They can tell him what he needs to work on to get draft eligible. No harm in taking a look-see, and no diss on him for doing so.

But I agree that he's not ready, as I've already stated.

The free market should provide any person the right to see what his skills are worth. If an accounting major in his sophomore year wants to see if he can get a job with one of the Big 4 national firms, more power to him. People should never be prohibited from trying to better themselves and see what their abilities bring in the open market of whatever profession they desire. I think Nembhard will be back. I hope he will be back. But God bless his right to pursue his dreams.

If we're going to talk 'free market' capitalism...

Put the way the U.S. Constitution states it, and is 'lifetime sworn oath defended' by our active military and veterans; "I might not agree with your opinions, but I'll fight to the death for your right to have and express them." o_O

Another reason that liberal progressive demo-rat socialist ideology will never fly in America.

Any elected official that has taken the Oath to Support and Defend the Constitution, and then exposes a socialist agenda, should be tried for TREASON.
(jmoho's of course)

I think we’ve strayed a bit from free market capitalism.

But if we were talking about a free market, Nembhard should have been able to enter the draft out of high school. As a 6’5” point guard, who was a 5 star recruit, he probably would have been drafted last year.

Gators have had a few guys like that. Pat Young, Chris Walker, probably would have been first round picks out of HS.

Totally agree.

Once they accept a college ship, they should not be yearly NBA bait. IMO, this is killing the college game. (thank gawd for the 04's)

I agree that's the best system. I think the NBA likes one and done because it is difficult to scout hs kids. I'm sure the NBA is happy not to have to draft the Chris Walkers of the world without seeing if they can do anything other than dunk on 6'3" centers in high school.

IMO, it would help the NBA to have Men with college degrees, maturity, and full adult body growth coming into the league, over what they get with most 1 & done's.

But screw the NBA,,, it would GREATLY benefit the young men for the rest of their lives to stay in school and come away as grown men with a top quality degree. o_O

I generally feel sorry for the one & done's of the world... I'm guessing that about 2 in 10 of them ever manage to end up with a successful life, during and after B-Ball.

Up until 1969, players couldn't sign with an NBA team until they were 4 years removed from HS. While that's probably a bit too much, the one & done is too soft imo. A choice of direct from HS, or 3rd year out of HS, seems a good middle ground to me.

With no restrictions and plenty of opportunities, high schooler's started taking the dip more regularly. But for every Kevin Garnett — the player who triggered the teens-to-NBA onslaught in 1995 — or LeBron James, there were even more like Kwame Brown, a top pick who turned into a bust or, even worse, Taj McDavid, who thought he could go from high school to the NBA, but never got a sniff.

Last year the number of players who came out of college early ballooned to 236 .
But only 42 even got drafted. o_O -- (D-Rob)
And a lot fewer of even those 42 will ever amount to anything in the NBA... :(

People complain about the one and done system ruining college basketball and I agree it has hurt the continuity of true teams. However the NCAA didn't have to sign off on this, they make money and garner attention from the association of guys like Kyrie Irving, Kevin Durant and Anthony Davis being a part of the college game. Had LeBron James gone to Ohio State and won a championship, I guarantee the NCAA would have used that footage over and over again.

Kwame Brown played in the league for 13 years and signed $80 mill in contracts. That’s a win. Chris Walker probably would have signed a $5-$10m contract before he busted as opposed to busting in college and making nothing.

It would suck if he left. He has SO much potential.

He will not hire an agent. Under current NCAA rules, Nembhard will retain his collegiate eligibility, giving him a chance to return to school for his sophomore season in the event he doesn't like the feedback he gets prior to the NBA Draft. Players who wish to withdraw from the NBA Draft and retain their college eligibility must do so by May 29.

Update (that I was unaware of)....

Due to an NCAA rule change instituted this year, players are allowed to hire an agent without forfeiting their college eligibility, so it won’t be as clear which players intend to stay in the draft as it was in previous years.

Players can also elect to return to school if they go un-drafted, but this rule only applies to players who participated in the NBA Draft Combine. The 2019 NBA Draft will be held on June 20 at the Barclays Center in Brooklyn. The event will be televised on ESPN.

Andrew Nembhard hopping off the Mike White train?:D

Hes a good player but needs to stay another year o_O

I'm sure he knows he's not getting drafted. But it's a chance for him to put his name on the NBA's radar. His representative can start talking to NBA front offices and maybe he gets into the combine. When you think about it, why wouldn't you test it out if you have the opportunity?

More like the troll with his head-nailed-to-da-flor hopping but missing the train yet again. ;) Testing the water with a toe, is not the same thing as diving in blindly.

Update:
SF/PF Stone xfer out for playing time.
He would not start over KJ this year.

CG/SF Ballard xfer out for playing time.
He would not start or play much with 5 stars Lewis and Mann coming in.

PG Okauru xfer out for playing time.
Nembhard, Mann, Glover.

Coach White needed the open slots and so those who wanted more playing time gave them to him. A Win-Win for all parties involved imo. I wish them all well.

Considering C Gorjok Gak is 6-11 254 with a 7’4” wingspan you probably want to look at what impact he could have on the defensive end first. In the 2017-18 season, opponents only shot 37.5% at hoop when contested by Gak and that is a fantastic number given the fact the national average hovers around 54%. A pretty good shot blocker with the bulk to not get pushed around in the paint.

PF/C Dontay Bassett 6-9 237 is a quicker and more athletic big and a better offensive player than Gak, so maybe they could work well in combination.

Gak and Bassett continue to improve their overall game. How much is the question for 2019-20?

With a rotation of Stokes, Payne, and Jitoboh for C/PF depth.

The 1-2-3 slots are LAY-O-DED.
1 - Nembhard-Mann-Glover
2 - Locke-Klatsky
3- K.Johnson, S.Lewis
Those 7 guys could all play any of the 1-2-3 spots if needed.

And for the moment, there is still one ship open...

Would be awesome if we got Blackshear. Juruji is nice addition.
