Pat Forde: Chip no go to UF

Again my personal opinion but I think Taggart would get a UF job offer before Mullen.

Taggart seems to be the name of the hour. Worst case scenario the roster is loaded again on both sides of the ball and we have a Mark Richt.

Also sounds like Chip is hoping for that so he can return to Oregon.

This is all very weird. Heard his potential staff was told that it may not be UF or UCLA. Some even opine that this is all so he can get back to Oregon.

.
Correct. Taggart would load the roster back up with talent. He would either be successful with it or the next guy after him would have something to work with.

Taggart's buyout is 3 million so we arent going after him unless it allows Kelly to go back there and they would waive it.

$3 million? We would pay much more than $3 million less for him than we would have Chip. I don’t think that one is a deal breaker

Doesn't matter he isn't that hot of a commodity right now after this year at Oregon. I dont think there is a possible target coach out there that we would eat a 3 million buyout on right now that isn't named Kelly or Frost. Especially after that mess with Mac.

Taggert's career coaching record to date is 46-50. I know with Western KY & USF he took 2 programs that were horrible at the time and turned them around, piling up some losses in the process. But a losing record after 96 games, plus only 6-5 in his 1st year at a P5 school makes me nervous.

I tend to agree with this, although I think he lost 10 games his first year at Western Kentucky.

Taggert would be a solid hire, but definitely not exciting. No way Frost doesn’t go back to Nebraska when they call, and Mullen may flip us the bird for considering him the third or fourth best option.:(

After all the coach shuffling is finished, ZoniGator may turn out a phophet!(can anyone say Mike Norvell)

You may mean 4-1 and against the easy part of the schedule. He needs to build that roster back up which he appears to be on track doing looking at their recruiting list.

Its all situational. Mac is leaving us a very mediocre roster and probably less than mediocre on defense. Whoever comes in needs to make an immediate impact in recruiting. Chip’s name would have done that. Frost has a lot of attention in the State. A guy like Norvell would likely have a very mediocre transition class and I am not sure that is a hole he would ever dig out of. His teams also have faced zero defense and the one mediocre defense they faced from UCF the put up a whole 13 points. So I say no way to Norvell.

So now you are essentially left with Taggart or Mullen. Based on the state of our roster you bring in Taggart, he loads up both sides of the roster and he either wina or leaves the next guy a shit ton of talent.

Taggart will definately being a more exciting hire to in-state recruits than Norvell. And honestly, it wouldn’t be close

I could live with Taggart because he seems to be real good at recruiting but I will be depressed the whole off season if we end up with Mullen. Mullen having no buyout scares me.

Ok so what...they made Kelly their #1 choice and then decided to move on after 4 days? They just met with him Sunday. Either this report is wrong or they're a weak ass admin who isn't willing to do what it takes to get their top target. Those are the only two explanations.

Or, they went up there and said, "We know you've said time and time again that you're really not interested in returning to college ball junless it's a absolute perfect fit, but we wouldn't be doing our due diligence unless we came and talked to you and told you what we can offer you." Then Kelly said "Thanks but no thanks." And put it out there that he's not interested in UF. And now we are hearing the Gator spinners are coming behind it and pretending that it's UF who stopped being interested in Kelly, as to prevent scaring away other coaches from being interested in the job.

That's the third and most likely correct option.

Everyone is being played. Chip gonna find his way back into that Oregon job

Taggert’s only been there a year. Sounds like he may not want to leave at this point. Chip’s not going to pass up UF and UCLA, two jobs where he thinks he could win, on the chance that Taggart goes somewhere. He’ll probably end up a Bruin.

Moving forward, anybody with less than 1,000 posts here needs to STFU.

And who the hell is dumb enough to buy that spin? He was their #1 option. Everybody knows it including other coaching options.

Of course he was. Christie Brinkley was my #1 option too. But she never even knew who I was. They tested the waters. He listened to what they had to say, much like Gruden listened to what Tennessee had to say.

So if Norvell roasts UCF next week does your opinion change? Seems like you're basing your criticism off one game. That's a pretty high standard to hold people to -- perfection.

Norvell recruits just as well as Frost does statistically, and he is doing his thing with far less talent (UCF classes typically around 50th ranked vs 80th for Memphis). When I watched the game between UCF, he was moving the ball fine. They just had a lot of bad bounces and turnovers. May not be so next week.

Just announced he is going to UCLA.
