Optimism is in the air

Oh trust me I agree, you know how I feel about that guy. But that's kinda the point, for whatever reason he insisted on playing that scrub and running off all his comp. The ironic thing is the main guy he ran off, Brissett, is perfect for the type of offense he wanted to run. If he had started Brissett he'd still likely be here. Funny how things work out sometimes.

See, Brissett always looked like a less mobile version of Driskel to me.

We said he had more "poise" but it didn't mean he did anything really better than JD did. Just as inaccurate. And with the lack of mobility, he might as well have been as turnover prone.

Point is. JD was so bad, we are literally excited for below average mediocrity at the position because it's a HUGE upgrade from our previous QB rating of "dumpster fire."

Sad that, if Grier doesn't beat out Treon or if Treon doesn't make huge strides in his game, that next year we will be entering our 7th straight season without a good QB on the roster.

Way too many presumptive and negative conclusions being drawn here regarding the current qb position. After the first game tonight we should all have a semi rational point of reference, as will coach Mac.

Very, very well said. Our coach is a freakin' quarterback whisperer. Before making any judgments about how good or bad either of them are, everybody ought to just wait and see how they look now that they have competent coaching. sadgator's bet is that Treon is going to look like a totally different player than we have seen...as will JD at LA Tech.

Jeff was supposed to look totally different under Kurt Roper. I'll believe we're improved when I see it. Was really hoping Grier could win the job because Treon was not impressive last year

During the dark ages of Florida football (the Muschamp years) no qb received adequate coaching to properly develop. Too often kids like Driskel and Brissett ended up catching the blame for Muschamp's offensive ignorance. I hope both Driskel and Brissett are now receiving the mentoring they didn't get here. I have a feeling both could have been successful at Florida with proper coaching.

I disagree. I think that we should hang the QBs in effigy and start FireMcElwain.com post haste.

Oh come on man...maybe in some of the other cases but Driskel just didn't have it between the ears at all when it came to being a QB.

He worked with three guys that have a very long history in working with very good QBs and he barely progressed in four years.

Now I won't be surprised if he looks good at La Tech because he will be able to dominate many opponents athletically, just like he did in high school.

I agree Driskel can't be blamed just on the coaches but I blame Muschamp for starting him despite his horrid play.

No, the tune has changed. Mac WAS the man until he started someone other than who they wanted at QB. smh

Um no, that just implies that we are very screwed at QB again.

Your man crushes on Harbaugh and Treon are not going well sir.

Btw...you watching the Auburn game.

Nice first half shutout against Petrinos offense eh?

Truth...he made McElroy an NFL draft pick...lol..we should be good. I like duel threat guys but if we end up going pro style I don't know why we don't pick up one of these kids out west that pay for BYU...they seem to have 3 deep QB's that can accurately throw the ball all over the field. Either way I think that Mac gets the QB position covered...I'm looking for a long term fix..rather than a band aid...it will probably take all of this season before we really see a new team out there.
