The Ray Guy Award announced the semifinalists for the 2019 Ray Guy Award on Monday, as redshirt senior punter Tommy Townsend has been recognized among the list of semifinalists for the second consecutive season.

Townsend, a native of Orlando, Fla., has tallied 38 punts on the year for a total of 1,703 yards, averaging 44.8 yards per punt. Townsend has recorded 20 punts inside the opposing 20-yard line this season, while accounting for 17 fair catches and four touchbacks. Additionally, Townsend has booted 11 punts for 50-plus yards, as he matched his career-high with a career-long 71-yard punt in Florida’s 23-6 win over Missouri on Saturday.

Townsend’s 71-yarder marks the longest punt this season among SEC punters.

Townsend has been effective in limiting returns for opposing teams, as Florida is ranked fifth-nationally among the FBS in punt return defense, having allowed seven punt returns for a total of nine yards all season (1.29 return yards/punt).

The No. 10 Florida Gators return back to action next Saturday, Nov. 30, when they host Florida State at Ben Hill Griffin Stadium for a 7:30 p.m. kickoff to be televised on the SEC Network.
