As much as I loved NASCAR(Jim Rome used to call it NECKCAR) growing up, I am now loving every second just witnessing the decline of a once great sport. Everything that the Petty generation, especially the Earnhardt's, Allison's, Wallace's etc. had created over decades have turned NOOSECAR away from actual competitive racing while entertaining suck asses like Bubba Smollett.
No different than watching the very slow death of the NFL and NBA.
Same. I used to enjoy NASCAR, but it started falling apart a few years ago when the top stars started retiring, then they started doing more and more to alienate their fanbase. Banning Confederate flags, the rope pull bullshit, calling their fans racists. Total lack of leadership. I will give Brian France credit for adding the playoff system, I thought that was a great idea. But most of the family's decisions the last 10 years have been really bad.
One thing that I think really hurt the sport was they muzzled drivers from getting back at each other on the track. I know why they did this, the cars cost a fortune and owners said they didn't want their drivers wrecking million dollar cars, but it made the product a lot more boring. A few years ago, Joey Logano wrecked Matt Kenseth like 4 times throughout the season. Everytime he said 'oops tee hee! my bad!' after the race. Kenseth kept his cool. Then during the playoffs, Logano wrecked him again, and this time it knocked him out of the playoffs. So next race, Logano was leading, Kenseth ran him down and put his ass in the wall and out of the race and out of the playoffs. The crowd gave him a standing ovation. NASCAR said you do anything else to Logano, your season is over.
The heart of the sport is lets see who the best driver is, push the cars to the limit, then when you get wrecked on the final turn, you jump out of the car and whip the other guys ass, then buy him a beer later.
I will be very surprised if the sport is still around in 5 years, at least not with the France family.
