Just passed a vax mandate for all Winchester Public School athletes last night.

First off, I hate myself for losing track that this was up for debate. I wasn’t at the meeting, but everyone who was spoke against it.

I might have said this before, but I’m the head coach for the lacrosse team for a WPS High School…BUT we are a club team and only use the school name (and some facilities). Our kids come from all over. I volunteer my time, I carry a full time job (50 hours a week), have two kids in travel lacrosse and volunteer for an expansion travel organization in the area (just to help grow the sport).

Well I sent an email to the president of the school board and the the superintendent. I have a meeting with both tomorrow at 4. Response took 2 hours.

I’ll keep you all posted on how this turns out. I’ve had offers in the past from two other school districts to move my team. I hope it doesn’t come to that because we are at the premier school in the area. We were 7-1 in a decent district in Virginia LY. We aren’t awesome but we don’t suck either.

Should be interesting. But I’m not making my players get vaxxed. It makes no sense.

Mandates are not laws. No covid vax for any aged person has been approved by any regulatory body. It has been and still is emergency use authorization for all ages. The vaxxes have a more adverse toll on the younger population than the older population. Most of those adverse reactions are irreversible and permanent.

Charles County, Maryland has the mandate that all athletes must be vaxxed or be tested and show negative covid test, atleast once a week, and atleast 1 day prior to any competition.

Update

The Superintendent didn't end up speaking with me. My Ward 1 School Board rep did.

He was civil and so was I, it got heated a few times but we were able to keep it on the rails. I did start the call by thanking him for stepping up and serving the community, being on a School Board has to be a terrible job. He did indicate he wasn't running for re-election in 2024.

1) He had no knowledge of any of the statistics I shared. He didn't know how many kids have died from/with Covid and he had no clue what the hospitalization rates were for kids (576 as of yesterday and 3 every 100k for the highest risk age group). It took me about 5 minutes to find those two key pieces of information (from VAERS and the CDC).
2) He couldn't tell me how many area athletes contracted Covid last sports season...or how many had serious outcomes or if any passed away.
3) Our mandate isn't that bad - they actually allow for a 90 day waiver with a positive antibody test, and they take the group of unvaxxed athletes and test a random sample weekly. It's completely dumb, but less arduous for kids who's parents don't want them to be vaxxed.

He never could tell me the logic behind picking only on athletes. When you know he has not identified that group as any higher risk than the general population the mandate makes even less sense.

I do think he regrets voting for it, he said to me more than once "I'm not sure this is the hill we should have died on". But you have completely misinformed people making important health decisions for our kids. This guy isn't evil, or bought off or part of some liberal conspiracy...he's just a sheep. Ill informed and passive.

seems fair and logical for those that have had it.

May be an image of text that says 'This is a cat. That is a cat.'

Update 2

My buddy who spoke up at the school board meeting about the mandates, and attends all of them, has a FR at the local HS.

He's been given in-school suspension for a mask violation. Apparently he was not covering his nose properly.

Here is a good reason why parents might be reluctant:
Good Lord.

Again yet another reason why I am firmly against mandates for this vaccine in this virus. Very few people, including most of y’all, know the science behind it. But generally speaking anybody under the age of 20 should be a personal choice between the kids and the parents and the doctor.

Sad and strange update on this story.

Mrs. McKiernan was the impetus behind our school board taking up a vote on the vax mandate.

Just terrible whether it's related or not.
