Masks aren't for you. They are for EVERYBODY ELSE. If you are sick, and you are wearing a mask, if you cough or sneeze, the mask will limit the radius of the spread of the water droplets coming from your nose and mouth. Reducing the area of potential contagion, plus the 6 feet social distancing, reduces the chance that the disease will spread while the person is pre-symptomatic but contagious.
Seriously, do you think surgeons wear masks to keep their patients from getting them sick? It's to keep them from spreading any potential germs they may have to the patient.

Vaccines are only fully effective if enough people (99%+) get it to eliminate the disease before it can mutate. Truly successful vaccination plans work like it did with smallpox, that vaccine eliminated smallpox as a disease in the world. With COVID, the variants were popping up so fast it was difficult for the vaccines to keep pace. But as more people get vaccinated, and get their boosters, the disease will continue to slow. It's not a coincidence that as the number of vaccinated people has risen, the threat of COVID has receded.
