Tell me Mr critical thinker, why is it if I stand on an edge that is 2 feet high I have no fear. 10 feet, still not much. But when I go to 710 feet I have lots of fear. If I stand on the edge of every story of a 50 story building I have more fear the higher I go. The edge is not the variable, the height is. The edge itself creates no fear whatsoever until you add in the height. Hence, a fear or heights or a fear of falling, but no fear of edges.
The reason you have no fear when you go to the middle of the building is that you have removed the stimulus that causes the fear......essentially seeing the distance down. If your senses can't tell your 710 feet up they aren't going to stimulate the fear......people don't have altimeter's in their head. Its erroneous to conclude that this means there is no fear of heights. To further illustrate......if you have a glass building with glass floors and you can see all the way to the bottom standing in the middle of the building would that alleviate the fear. Nope. The edge isn't causing the fear. The height is.
