Mike White to UGA

Mike White "poached" by UGA. 😂 😂 😂 😂

UGA & UF have ended their seasons. UGA just recently fired Tom Creme. The only way that hiring a 2nd tier coach like Mike White makes sense is if they think he can recruit lights out.

White a decent - not great - recruiter & a mediocre game day coach.

Plus Paco is saying they are going to pay a $1.5 MM buy out for White.

Doesn't make sense !!!

Rick Pitino? It's safe to say there are some schools from major conferences willing to give him a shot.

At the time UGA hired Tom Crean he had 1 Final Four and 3 Sweet Sixteens and they just hired a guy with quite a bit less success than that.

Excellent, and they didn't even have to fire him to get rid of him.

Isn't it surprising that anyone wanted to hire that total loser....
😉

As to Ricky-P, isn't he the one that told BillyD not to take the UF job because UF would never support their B-Ball program.
I can't imagine that he would stoop so low as to take the UF job...
🤓
If he took the job, it would be like total desperation to just have any job.

This has caused me to wonder how many of the 2022 recruits will want to stay, with White gone???

#4 PF Malik Reneau 6-8 210 *****

#16 PF Jalen Reed 6-10 220 ****

#27 CG Denzel Aberdeen 6-4 175 ***

Or if any of the current roster will enter the portal now.....

Notice to the NIL guys; you might better get some cash flowing quickly....

After Donovan led UF to a repeat, UK courted the living hell out him. Rick Pitino even said at the time if Billy ever left UF, he'd like to take over at UF. Billy did more than exceed Pitino's expectations.

Sounds like very clearly Scott told Mike this isn't working out, so poof off to UGA. Great hire for them. They've been a doormat and he will take them to middle of the pack. As to us, we shall see...

Probably because they think they “stole” him from UF when in actuality we couldn’t wait to get rid of him.
Kinda like how Minnesota fans were excited when they hired Tubby Smith away from UK. Many if not most UK fans weren’t sorry to see him go….but then our AD hired Billy Clyde Gillespie.

It’s certainly ok to let White go, even to a rival, but Stricklin better not whiff on his replacement.

UGA is the worst BB program in the SEC and it’s not even close…..

He’s an upgrade over Tom Crean, but Mike White has his work cut out for him at UGA.

Is he really an upgrade over Crean? Not sure we know that answer yet. Yes Crean did really poor at UGA for sure but they are a poor bball program too.

The day UGA hired Crean this was his resume. Crean had a Final Four, 3 Sweet Sixteens and 2 Big 10 Championships. Most people actually thought that was a good hire for UGA at the time based on his resume.

The day UGA hired Mike White this is his resume. He has an elite 8.

Crean made a name for himself at Marquette when he had a guy named Dewayne Wade playing for him. That was his one FF appearance because they beat UK in the Elite Eight to get there (2003).

He had a few decent seasons at IU, but regressed into Mike White type mediocrity, with some losing seasons thrown in.

His stock was already down when UGA hired him, and most of us in the UK fan base expected him to fail, which he did.

Agree on the whiff part. No clue what Scott has in mind. Any thoughts?

Looks like a real Win/Win situation to me.

UF get's rid of the only coach in UF history to never have a losing season.

While Mike White escapes from Socialist-U and their entitled fans.

Good day for everybody, so cheers to us all...

Don’t forget we (UF) just saved $8.5M in buyout money and well as UGA gave us $1.25M. Damn right it was a good day for UF. As for UGA I’m not sure what the heck they were thinking.

Thread on this topic on the Rupps Rafters on the UK board already on the second page with a few comments from yours truly. Some gold in that thread; most UK posters predict White will eventually flop at UGA.

But saying it over and over won't make that 1.25 grow for ya. Jus-sayin...

And since this was all well planned out far in advance, the next great NC coach must be right around the corner, right?

I like McMahon and Pope the best off that list. Pope I’m pretty sure is a Mormon so not sure he would leave BYU. My list is a bit extensive but all names that interest me in some regard.
Pope would be at the top of my list. Surprised BYU didn't make the tourney this season. Will be interesting....

Perhaps you got confused somewhere in life and took a wrong turn. It seems you're more akin to being a UCF supporter. I'm sure they would have made rings and hung banners for not having losing seasons, or at least considered it.

Btw, UF has only had 1 losing season(Billy D's last year) since 1998......so having winning seasons is very common to what we expect, and not a celebration, in of itself.

As for the other previous coaches, UF didnt have much pull for recruits in the 90's and before that. So your bragging about MW being the only coach to not have a losing season is skewed, to say the least. It didnt start to change untill BD came on board.....and MW benefited from BD's success.

Or at least a coach with more probability to give us something more than meaningless stats that doesnt yield anything.

A coach that can make it past the round of 32 more than once in seven years? Well, gosh, that would just be peachy keen.

Do we dare to dream that big?

Yeah Mark Pope played for Pitino at UK and was on the 1996 NC team. He’s a pretty devout Mormon; a real high-character guy. Agree that it would be difficult to see him leaving BYU.
