Basketball Micah Handlogten vs. Sam Alexis is the big difference!

I just wanted to give him his flowers. His unselfishness with his decision to return and burn his redshirt for the sake of the team should always be remembered with this run. His return has allowed our bigs to play free and physical and not worry about foul trouble. It gives us that extra chess piece that might go unnoticed in the stat books but is probably the main reason we are clicking on all cylinders. He set the example of what a teammate should look like when he was coming back from injury. His energy on the bench was infectious. We truly have a special 3 weeks ahead of us and he is our unsung hero. Congrats Micha

I think people forget he was the starter all year last year. He's a beast on the boards and with his size doesn't allow any low post play by the other team. What a luxury to be able to bring him in for 12-18 minutes/game. And it completely changes the risks of fouling--having 4 very skilled big men is a game changer that nobody else in the country has.

No doubt Handlogten is a more productive player than Alexis. However, the additional fouls and depth of having a healthy Alexis is a definite positive. Also, if I remember correctly, we were pretty darn good with him even before Handlogten came into play. As for Condon. to these eyes he's really struggling ot finish around the rim.

His defense is as or more important than his offense imo. And that’s not saying he’s not a great scorer, but his defense leads to his scoring.

And to this thread, who would have thought Condon’s injury would be a good thing?!?! Thank you Micah, for burning your RS and taking this team to an even higher level!

Alexis is still a good defender. I just think it's hard for him to crack the rotation because he doesn't have the playmaking ability as the other bigs. And his best traits are not the best when you match it up with our other bigs. But unfortunately for him our other bigs still have eligibility next year so I can't imagine he stays.

I think Condo needs some rest. He gets a lot of punishment and is always moving. Hell,,,games like the last three ..... everybody needs some rest!
That's what we're talking about last night...just seemed tired, especially when he missed a couple FTs.

Love that kids heart. Hopefully he finds his MOJO this weekend.

Four days rest will help Condon. He definitely was not at his best this tourney, but it has allowed Hauch and Micah to insert themselves and improve. A rested Condo and return of Alexis added to the others should give us tremendous flexibility in the tourney. I also want to call out Denzel. I did not like him as a player last year and early this year, but he has slowed down and is becoming clutch. He will be killer next year.

One last thing, if Klavzar can regain his early shooting touch, he could be an X factor in the tourney as well.

I get the feeling that Urban is more of a rhythm shooter, meaning that he needs to be in the game for a while, get a lather going, and then will be a more deadly shooter. I don't think people realize how hard it would be to come into a game ice cold and then get a couple of looks early on and be expected to make those shots. There's not many shooters who can do that and the more you struggle, the harder it is to do.

I haven't seen many pure shooters who don't need to get a sweat going, get into the flow of the game and maybe get a shot or two first to find their range. My youngest son, who also played college ball along with his older brother, was very much like that. Started a lot of games slowly and progressively got better as a shooter as the game wore on. I think Urban will be fine.

Lee Humphrey was that way as well. I liKe Klav a lot, I think he's going to be a good PG.

The crazy apart about it all is that they can all return next if they chose to do so. The back court will be a huge question mark. But that’s next season. For now I’m going enjoy this wonderful ride that we’re currently on. We just witness UF B-ball team take the souls of some very tough and gritty elite teams. At the end of each SEC tourney game, Missouri, Bama, and UT all had that look that just seen the boogeyman.

Last thing big props to Alijah Martin, he was just what the Doctor ordered. The gritty and toughness he brought to the table were both a huge upgrade for Riley Krugel.

LFG!!!

2 things I've noticed since Micah's return: He's swings the ball very quickly at the 3 point line and moves well despite adding 20-30 pounds. Coming off the bench is a great role long term for him IMO.

Will Richard is said to require a shot prior to each game due to a toe so painful it might keep many players out of action. Will is a genuine Gator hero.

Considering what Micah Handlogten has overcome he now owns the respect and admiration of his teammates at a deeper level. This adds to the quality Micah brings to the court.

As for Alex Condon, teams undoubtedly are now keying on him, no longer taken by surprise by his talent. He’s a special guy for us and will shortly bounce back. Four days rest coupled with some Todd Golden strategizing will make a good difference in his play.

I like him, but I bet he doesn't play in some games during the tournament unless we've got foul trouble. He was a match up mismatch in Tennessee's favor yesterday. My guess is that they'll use him to squeeze 5 minutes real time rest for guys by inserting him into the game for 1-2 minutes before the TV timeouts for Walt.

I thought it was great that Condon was challenging the big dude from Tennessee at the rim. Unfortunately for Condon the dude made big plays but I still love that he wasnt afraid to go right at him.

Okpara for Tenn is an elite rim protector. No shame in that challenge.

Interesting, he has really picked up his game the last few weeks. I guess the shots are working......

Also think Will Richard deserves a lot of credit. He's averaging close to 18ppg over the last 7 and always plays sound defense too.
And he’s doing it very quietly, which is a great way to do it when you’re surrounded by other great players. I don’t know the kid, but you would imagine that he feels that way that he’s able to thrive because he is surrounded by so many other good players. And that my friend is good for us. …

He throws great entry passes into the post from the top of the key. Numerous times I’ve seen him get the ball at the top of the key and throw a nice pass to Condo and Haugh setting them up for a bucket. A big man that can pass has huge value. Haugh passes really well as well.

He’s been elite for 2 years now. That’s what I love about this team. Martin is a great POA defender. Richard is elite as a wing defender. Handlogten is a very good rim protector and he moves pretty well for a big guy. Condon moves great for a big men. Obviously, you don’t want him constantly guarding guards, but I don’t sit there thinking we are cooked when he gets switched on to a guard. He moves very well laterally for 6’11. Haugh moves very well too.

The biggest thing Richard did was adding the ability to put the ball on the floor. The past couple of years he was a jump shooter and defender. He’s gotten much better at attacking the paint area and finishing.

I still say we beat Colorado in the 1st round last year if Handlogten were healthy. Their big man pushed ours around last year, and that wouldn’t have happened if Handlogten was there.
