The Brigham Young coach appears to be the Wildcats’ new guy, succeeding John Calipari. Kentucky is seriously pursuing Pope after Danny Hurley and Scott Drew both brushed aside Kentucky’s outreach. Billy Donovan had no interest. Rick Pitino has been lobbying for Pope with Pitino’s old ties in the Bluegrass State. Pope was a star on Pitino’s lone national championship team at UK, was a second round NBA pick, then had a 9-year playing career professionally. There’s much more to say about Pope who has produced winning teams at BYU but maybe doesn’t have the cache of a sexy hire.

Pope is a 110-52 career mark at Brigham Young, 23-11 in 2023-24, 10-8 in the Big 12 this past season. All of this is from Pete Thamel posted at On3 via its free reads.
