Mac trying to motivate players by mentioning "death threats" from fans

* Asked about death threats, McElwain called his comments "misguided remarks."

* On the death threats: "I feel bad sometimes for being open and being honest. At the same time, I've seen this movie and I understand it."

* McElwain said he would share details if the situation becomes "unmanageable."

What in the hell is this yokel talking about? What movie?

Good thing Mac is able to manage this death threat situation without any assistance.

He makes like $4 million a year, deal with it. All this did for him for bring out all that he’s messed up. He really miscalculated the fall out this would bring

To say he calculated it is to give him too much credit. His self pity got the best of him (I won a terrible SECE twice in a row and all these fans want to talk about is the fact that we can't get a first down against any good team we play). His half-apology (for being such a straight shooter and for getting caught up in the "noise" caused by others) reflected his realization that he had put his $4m/yr job at risk. Not sure Mac realizes this, but the reason he makes $4m a year is the same reason he's getting lit up on twitter: the fanbase's irrational love of the team. If mean tweets are a problem for him, he should go coach in Idaho for half million a year and play in front of 10,000 fans.

Its weird to see posters sympathize with him. Everything I have read says the man is despised by about everyone within the university and sees absolutely no fault of his own for anything going on. That stupid apology was most obviously forced. Scary as hell the guy doesn’t see the glaring issues.

I get that they don't like to see Gators eating their own, but I don't really see him as a Gator. I see him as a guy getting paid a bunch of money to do a job and a guy that isn't earning that paycheck. But if it were just mediocre coaching, I wouldn't go on and on about it. What drives me crazy is when a coach tries to scapegoat the fanbase. Muschamp did it too. Particularly when the coach tries to turn it into the fans vs. the players, as both Muschamp and Mac have done. Overwhelmingly, the fans' antipathy is directed at the coaches, not the players (although Driskel took a ton of crap, in my view unfairly). What we're saying is that the players and the team deserve better than the effort that is being delivered. I want a coach to embrace the expectations at UF, not whine about them. Trying to dodge accountability for your mediocre results by trying to turn players against the fans is really contemptible behavior.

That's why I called him a politician. He can't motivate his team so he's manufacturing an external threat to try to rally them, its so transparent. No different that governments who manufacture external threats to keep the idiots at home distracted.

We can have an honest dialog about whether he is the right man for the job and/or whether his coaching decisions work without all the vitriol. It is unfortunate that there is so much hatred for him. sadgator doesn’t view Mac as a bad guy at all. A bit quirky and eccentric (which would be great if he was winning), but certainly not evil. He has expressed nothing but love and respect for our program and our players. There is no reason to despise the man personally. It is all very sad.

Does everyone remember when he finally named a starter the same exact time and day we had the players suspensions announced? I do

I don't know man. He said Gator fans were threatening his family and players. He basically made that up, so people would feel sorry for him. I can't respect a guy that does that.

Thats the thing though sad, he’s a salesman. On the inside he is disliked where as Muschamp was hard to let go because he was so highly thought of by those he worked with and the other coaches. Just don’t be led to think perception is reality, Mac is trying to protect Mac here.

The guy cares about Mac, nothing else. Its all to protect his image. Hence why the mutual split may occur so he can save face and not get fired

Good guys don't constantly cry woe is me and make up (exaggerate at best) death threats for sympathy points while simultaneously throwing his fan base and university under the bus. Or throw his players under the bus for obvious coaching errors. The awww shucks persona is just a con. I really don't see how people can't see through the bullshit. This must be the same reason politicians have no accountability...just say the right things here and there and the people vote you right back into office like clockwork. Y'all pay way too much attention to coachspeak and not actions.

When media members dare to ask him a question he doesn't like, something as simple as why the offense hasn't improved, he becomes condescending, arrogant, and dismissive and makes comments like "we won the East didn't we?" He's completely fake. If he cared about the university he wouldn't have thrown a grenade on it like he did a few days ago. He either did it intentionally to give himself an out or he just isn't very bright. Probably both. "Ummmmmm....and yet ummmmmm."

If Mac shits the bed this weekend, the world is watching now... I cant imagine the "noise in the system" being any louder than Saturday evening with an ass kicking other than knoxville...
