This Florida team is coming to play...they have a chip on their shoulder.

GatorNation79,

Hope you are right !

Gators will be on the road for a night game in Baton Rouge, how will that crowd / stadium noise compare to what Auburn faced in their day game in the Swamp ?

Gators have played only one true away game - Kentucky. Again, how will that environment compare to LSU ?

Will Gators' rookie QB lose his composure, will our mediocre OL have false starts & protection break downs ?

Hoping for the best from our Gators, but LSU & Joe Burrow will be a much tougher test than Kentucky or Auburn.

Your thoughts ?

I'm not sold we will beat LSU or CAN beat them. I knew in my head and heart all last week that we were the better team than Auburn and I expected us to win. Everyone in the nation thought Auburn would win simply because they overvalued Auburn's 5 victories and undervalued our 5 victories going into the game.

That said, Auburn was the MUST WIN game of the 3 top 10 teams we face this year. it was the home game and pretty much not arguably the easiest of the 3. So we HAD to beat Auburn. LSU is the only AWAY game of those 3 so in my opinion at least, we have the least likely chance of us beating the corndogs. Being that Georgia is at a neutral field so 50/50 crowd and environment. I make this assumption simply because I do not think Georgia is any better of a team than LSU is. LSU scares me more as they are passing the ball with authority this year and if anything, our pass defense has been suspect this year. Georgia wins on their running game as Froom lost all 5 of his top receiving targets from last year and still is struggling to find a few consistent receivers. Shut down UGLY's running game the way we did to Auburn, and you have a good shot at forcing a QB to win the game for his team using his arm.

That said, I'm not sure if we are having Gameday in Baton Rouge even though this is YET AGAIN the #1 game of the weekend for week 7. But wouldn't it be crazy if we won, went through to meet UGLY undefeated and had a 3rd straight Game Day appearance for our game in Jax? Has one team ever had that happen in a single season?

With our defense finally being healthy (minus Zuniga) it looked like it can compete with anyone. LSU hasn’t played anyone this year with the caliber of defense they will see with us. Texas is so overrated and their defense is terrible. On the flip side, this is probably the worst overall defense that LSU has fielded in some time. This game is definitely winnable from our perspective. If Trask and Emory can play error free ball and our defense can be physical like they were against auburn, we definitely can win this game. Night games at LSU are all about getting settled into the game quickly usually first couple drives and stay away from negative plays. I seriously like our chances after seeing how physical we played against auburn.

1. Trask isn't a rookie. Nix was a rookie. Trask is a 4th year junior. He doesn't have a lot of starts under his belt, but don't expect him to rattle. He was calm and composed coming in at Kentucky and leading us to the win.

2. Already having faced two raucous night game atmospheres this year, I don't expect LSU to be overwhelming for our crew. Advantage LSU? Yes, but not nearly as much as if it were our first night game of the year.

3. LSU is a tougher test, but at least we are well prepared for it. We have played night games, we have dealt with adversity, we have faced elite competition.

We are better with Trask and Emory at QB. If Trask started that kentucky game, it would have been a blowout. Will LSU be the favorite to win....absolutely, will they have home field advantage? Yep but we a better overall defense that’s ready to beat up Burrow like last year!

GatorGraz,

Do you or anyone have any news on Zuniga ?

Gator D was physical & well coached for Auburn's run game; Burrow & LSU's passing game will be a different type of test !

Getting into synch against LSU may be difficult; the opening pass play to Freddie Swain certainly throw Auburn for a loop & changed their game plan.

Let's hope Burrow & LSU don't do anything similar to us !

Zuniga's return would, IMO, greatly help our pass rush. LSU, according to ESPN's stats is almost 3 to 1 (2.684 to 1 if you want precision) passing yards versus rushing yards.

Passing
Joe Burrow QB..127 of 162 ..78.4%..1864 yds..22 TD..3 INT..9 sacks
Myles Brennan QB.. 218 yds..1 INT no TD
Total - 2,080 yds

Rushing
184 rushes..775 yds..12 TD....Burrow-29 rushes..62 yds..2 TD

https://www.espn.com/college-football/team/stats/_/id/99

For comparative purposes; Gators' offensive stats -
Passing
1707 yds..13 TD..5 INT..12 Sacks
Rushing
839 yds..12 TD

LSU - 2855 total yds - 34 TD
UF - 2546 total yds - 25 TD

IMO, LSU's stats conceal a deceptive advantage - Burrow is everything; UF stats split between Trask & Franks - who isn't available.

You & other posters have pointed out our pass defense problems. But IMO safety play was much better for Auburn & another week of practice for C J Henderson will help get the rust off his game & get him & Marco Wilson back in synch so I am hopeful we improve, but I think we all realize Burrow is light years better than Nix !

Of course burrows is better than nix but we played burrows last year with almost the same personnel. I trust that we will have a very good defensive game plan for LSU. I would have through auburn was going to beat us up front with their experienced offensive line and running attack and we stuffed them. I think LSU will have a very hard time putting up comparable numbers to what they've done this year. I feel so much better about this game after what we showed against auburn defensively. We will no doubt be able to score on LSU.

Been to LSU many times. Can be very loud but it does not sustain like the swamp. The swamp is the loudest college stadium in the country. Kentucky was a good test. I was there, very good atmosphere. But nothing like yesterday. At LSU they get worn out ( booze) all day so if we get it going they get fatigued . But if they stay in it it’s game on all night.

As stated by many in other threads, we can’t continue to turn it over. Trask is very good when he throws in rhythm , but he turns it over when he holds it two counts too long. That’s why he wasn’t starting.

Death Valley is the loudest stadium I've ever been in. They freaking hate us with a white hot passion so maybe it's louder when we're there but just damn, it's mind blowingly loud.

Bama,

Per CBS, Gators an early 13 point underdog for this game.

IMO, environment will be a lot worse than Kentucky; odds makers seem to agree.

Agree that LSU at home should be favored, but damn, 13 points ?

No. 7 Florida at No. 5 LSU (-13): The Gators are coming off a big home win over Auburn, but they don't have much time to feel good about themselves. A road trip to Tiger Stadium is next, and as you can see by the nearly two-touchdown spread, the oddsmakers aren't all that confident in Florida's ability to pick up another top 10 win.

Gonna be a tough one. Tiger Stadium at night is no play. We can win but can't turn it over like we have. That might catch up to us this time....hopefully we can correct that. Play a great game.

Love that we are big underdogs. It makes for the best bulletin board material for coaches to use. Fire these boys up and get them hungry. All the pressure is on LSU at home!

Not sure if you remember last year but Florida held Georgia's run game in check for most of the game yet Fromm was 17-24 with three touchdowns. I feel comfortable with Florida making Fromm win the game.

Georgia had better receivers last year. This year will be a different game because we actually have a QB now.

LSU and UGA are our toughest games. They are really good. We can win both games but have to play better. Really just stop turning it over and we'll be right there.

That's a lot of points. It'll be interesting to see if that line moves this week.

Honestly, LSU is probably the real No. 1 team in the nation right now...hate to be a negative nelly this week, but this one might just be too tall of an order to expect from them...

not saying they can’t win...and not saying they won’t play hard...but this will take a near flawless effort....and there is no shame in losing to LSU on the road at night...

Sad you always start this way... they have a good defense, ours is better... their offense can really score. So could Oklahoma in '08 and they got 13 on us. We might lose, tough road game but they give up a lot more points than we do. This will be another big challenge but if we dont turn it over a bunch, we can win.

SEC’s top winning percentages in night games since 2005
  • LSU .865 (71 wins, 11 losses)
  • Alabama .865 (45 wins, 7 losses)
  • Georgia .743 (29 wins, 10 losses)
  • Mizzou .680 (34 wins, 16 losses)
  • Texas A&M .677 (42 wins, 20 losses)
Good Luck. This is a hard place to win. LSU has the best secondary you will face this year. You are about to find out how good Trask really is.

Gotta disagree.

They haven't played a real defense yet. Every team they have played has given up 30+ points at least 2 other times this year. And they gave up a bunch of points to Texas and Vandy, and frankly, Vandy blows.

This game is winnable. Stop giving away the ball, find a few creases in the run game to keep everybody honest, we walk out with the dub.

Sad,

Words alone can't compete with that Veela -

Gators the biggest underdog in Mullen’s time at Florida
Not just the last two years but in all six of his years in Gainesville. This is the only time the Gators have been a double-digit underdog with Mullen as a coach in Gainesville.

“Do we get those points before the game starts? Then it doesn’t really have much use for us,” Mullen said. “If they gave us those points before the game started then I would definitely use them. If we walked in and it said Florida 14 LSU 0 I would definitely use that. The rest of it’s irrelevant.”

LSU announced that the game Saturday is officially a sellout. The capacity is 102,321 at Tiger Stadium — the sixth-largest stadium in the country.

IF Gators & Trask beat LSU, it's on versus the Dawgs & Gators will win SEC East !

Irrespective of how we do vs LSU if we win out we are SEC champs and going to the CFP.

However, if we go 12-0 we could probably lose the SEC title game and still make the CFP. Beating LSU would also insulate us against any slipups against the like of South Carolina or Mizzou.

But overall, I like the sound of 15-0. Let's do that.
