I would assume he means that Catholics do not blindly follow the pope like they did 100 years ago. Particularly American Catholics. We tend to be quite independent. Most of us do not believe in Papal infallibility for example.

In the last 20 years the Popes have got away from Catholic values. Too much emphasis on politics. The Pope needs to stay in his lane.

Same here. Went to Catholic Parochial School and then a Catholic High School but they have drifted far from their traditional values with this Communist Pope. He is far too left wing to be consistent with God's Word and every Catholic I know, which is most of my extended family, can't stand the guy.
