Jimbo was going to LSU

Who knows what the real truth is but is it really surprising to hear this coming out of LSU?? They will never in a million years say Jimbo turned them down even if he flat out did. What I thought was hilarious was in the original article, the one your link is based on, it said the school president put a stop on this last Wednesday when he found out it would take around 30 million to get rid of Miles and staff and hire Jimbo and staff. Like he really just found out a few days ago that Miles had a 15 million buyout and Fishers was 5 million and 5 million for each staff. All those numbers are publicly known.

so at the last minute LSU realized that Les had a $17M buyout and Jimbo had a $5M buyout and that they would have to match Jimbo's FSU salary to hire him? I dont buy it. Not sure what happened but money issues didnt all of a sudden pop up and cause LSU to back off from Jimbo. LSU is trying to save face.

What I heard today is that the Governor of LA got involved. The source said that the university had recently gone through bankruptcy and would look stupid to shell out that kind of loot. So appearances plus the outcry that Miles was getting shafted apparently killed any deal. Supposedly LSU has big time oil money boosters and they were going to pick up the tab, but spending that kind of money under the circumstances was out of the question.

Who knows, but given jimbos present divorce case, I'm doubting he'd take it unless he convinces his now ex wife to move too. No chance in hell he'd leave the boys. Zero chance. I'm betting sexton was using it as leverage for yet another raise.

This really doesn't mean anything.

Jimmy Sexton would have been stupid to not at least entertain LSU's offer, if for no other reason than to force FSU to cough up more dough. There's no way of knowing whether Fisher was truly interested.

Jimbo wasn't going anywhere. If any "negotiation" was going on, it was no more than Jimmy Sexton, Jimbo's agent, listening to what LSU had to say. I seriously doubt Fisher had any correspondence with LSU or anyone in Baton Rouge. Consider a few factors: FSU may well have a championship level team for the next 2 seasons. He is recruiting at an elite level and kids want to come to Tallahassee to play for him and Florida State. His youngest son, Ethan, has been undergoing treatment for Falconi Anemia in Tallahassee for years now, who know what level of treatment he could receive in Baton Rouge. Ethan's doctors are in Tallahassee. Fisher is absolutely revered in Tallahassee for the way he has dominated college football. Why leave? Why make at best a lateral move to LSU? It makes no sense for him to leave.

Reasons Dumbo won't leave f$u:

  1. Can get almost any player into f$U
  2. Police in Tallahassee look the other way for semi athletes
  3. Play in the weakest of the big 5 conferences
Why would he go anywhere else?

LSU is definitely the better university, athletic conference and fan base but if he went there he might be proven to not be the coach that semi fans think he is.

Two weakest p5 conferences have 6 teams in the top 10.lol

Because the best want to compete against the best. Like this conference:

This is the 24th SEC Championship Game and only five times was it played without one of the teams having a shot at the national title.

This is a dose of truth I just can't handle.

Hold me?

Better what? GTFO. We trump them in all aspect outside of possibly more rabid fanbase. Better university? Nice try.

Better corndogs.

LSU AD speaks:

"Earlier in the week, multiple media reports indicated the A&M game would likely be Miles' last as coach and that the school's top candidate to replace him was Florida State coach Jimbo Fisher. An Advocate report on Thursday quoted LSU sources saying the school had already entered into negotiations with Fisher, although Alleva denied that aspect of the story.

"We made some inquiries," Alleva told the Advocate. "There's talk about negotiations. There were no negotiations. There were inquiries made. There's a big difference between inquiries and negotiations."

I think Gators and Nole fans both hit the answer on this one.

It would've taken around $30 million to get rid of Hat and hire Dumbo Jumbo. The state of Louisiana is broke and LSU is considering bankruptcy. A move like this without any guarantees of Dumbo Jumbo being better than Hat (both have 1 NC and similar records) would generate a lot of backlash and may turn into a political disaster. There was more than sports at stake here. LSU could not afford to take this unprecedented gamble for $30 million, even if the money came from boosters.

I want Jimbo to stay at FSU. He's an average coach and will be Richt-like when all is said and done.

Remember, BJ (Before Jameis) his seat was at least warm and FSU fans were grumbling. BJ and AJ (After Jameis) combined he has averaged (2) conference losses and (1) out-of-conference loss per year. That is eye opening when you consider he had a 3-yr head start in recruiting as the HCIW bringing in "his players" (at least on the offensive side of the ball).

Wow, that quote from the LSU AD blows a big hole in the OPs post. Oh well.

Jimbo could make this really easy and publicly deny the reports that he entered into negotiations with LSU. It suits him. It suits his players. It suits players he's recruiting. It suits the FSU administration.

The OP linked an article from the Tallahassee Democrat.

The governor made that statement in the same week that the President told us that the Muslim murderers in California killed 14 people and wounded 21 more were motivated not by Islamic terrorism, but because of work place violence.

Now you can believe both of these politicians if so choose or you can disbelieve them. It's entirely up to you.

Why do you care?

LOL. Yeah that Jimbo Fisher just can't catch a break when it comes to recruiting.

Lmao! Hate to hijack this great Jimbo was almost gone thread but don't the gators have a special date at 4pm today?? The world will be watching..

Space, that tactic has been used on him for years. See UT, Auburn, WVU and now LSU offerings. He is a winner and gets lots of looks. He may leave one day but for now I don't worry about it. We are fine.

It was slightly warm after the UVA loss in 2011. FSU won the Orange Bowl in 2012 BJ (Before Jameis) and we may be headed to the Peach Bowl in 2015 (or very early 2016) AJ.

Coaches who frequent major bowls don't typically get fired.

LSU has made themselves look inept in all of this. This looks exactly like the coup Auburn boosters tried on Tubberville.

Gator fans are all in LOL.

Right up there with, "Islam is a religion of peace." If you say it enough you start to believe it.

Idk if Jimbo was leaving or not but I think it's kinda obvious they at least talked. The AD says they made inquiries, what does that even mean? And what else is he gonna say now after all the outpouring of support for Miles AND the governor throwing in his two cents? Was he gonna be like 'yea we were trying to work out a deal but the criticism we took from all over made us table the deal.' If you look at the timeline of events Friday night a whole bunch of crap came out about how people were stepping in on behalf of Miles and then the next day Jimbo said he was staying. It's clear both sides were interested.

Somebody is butt sore they aren't playing for a conference championship. Enjoy your comfortable seat at home sir, your season was over long before today.

If your university is hemorrhaging money you can't spend 20 million plus 7m per on a football coach. It just looks bad.

Miles isn't going to become a competent coach anytime soon so I'm sure this will come up again next year.
