Smart is trying to win the same way Bama did when Smart was on staff at Bama with a game manager at QB and a really good defense. Problem is college football has changed since then as even Bama has changed. It appears to be you need more than a game manager at QB to win a national title.

I wonder. Does this years QB disaster excite their incoming 5 star, Vandergriff, that he is likely to start from day 1, or does it terrify him that he may be putting his future NFL career in the hands of idiots?

That's what he said, but what he meant was he played Florida to get Ugaly to increase his payola for signing. Fields did the same thing. Came and visited, and played up to Mullen, then went back to Georgia and affirmed his commitment.
Imagine if we would have had Fields in a Mullen offense. I mean, don't get me wrong, Trask is great, and I love where we are and what we are doing, but Fields would have started Day 1 in 2018. With him under center we might already have a title. Or two.
