Is our little corner of the internet going away?

Well, I’d assume that either this gets folded into Swamp Talk, or Swamp Talk gets folded into here….. probably depends upon who has the larger paying customer base

The articles make it sound like they aren't going to rename anything in the near future anyway and it will be that if you are a paid subscriber you will have access to both sites I guess or at least some stuff from the other site. That is how I read it anyway.

This topic has come up on the UK Board - The Political Thread, Wildcat Lair (Football Board), and of course Rupp's Rafters.....

A lot of posters over there claim that if Rivals / ON3 go to a paid board, then they're going to just simply quit posting. When the rubber hits the road and if that comes to pass, we'll see if they follow through on that.

Personally I prefer things that are free.... If it goes to paid-only then I'll have a decision to make.

Is Rupp Rafters the most active board there is at Rivals? I knew it's really active.

Well hopefully they just let us be but I would probably mostly post at the SECRant site mostly if this place shut down as I don't care much for some of the other ones. It's a pretty harsh back and forth with fans from all the SEC teams. The Gator sub-site there is usually pretty dead except during the season but the SEC board is always active.

Except for here and the UK board, I don't really go on to many of these boards to definitively answer your question. But yeah, Rupp's Rafters is amazingly active. I'm a UK BB fan like just about everybody else over there, but that board is full of 1%'ers. It's incredible the stuff they find to talk about..... And make no mistake, these guys know their stuff, even about other team's rosters, etc.

Before a game tips off, somebody will start a thread about who the officiating crew for that game will be...... a thread that sometimes goes 3-4 pages. After we lost to Tennessee in the Sweet Sixteen, someone started a thread about the head ref, how he was biased against UK, etc. I posted that the number of fouls and free throws between the two teams were just about the same, and that the refs weren't the reason we lost the game. I subsequently got shredded. Examples like that are why I seldom post on RR, and generally stay on the Political Thread or the Football board.

This is a good board too; wish it was just a little bit more active.

It will suck if it ends, but sadgator’s had a good and satisfying posting run.

Laker-Shime will tell you that sadgator hasn’t paid a dime to this site (or any prior iteration) since joining in 2002.

sadgator would say he’s gotten more than his money’s worth of free posting outlet space in those years.

We’ve had some interesting characters, good debates, many ups and downs, and a great deal of laughs.

Only a few of us regulars from the heyday remain as “consistent” current posters and as sad as it would be to see it shut down, we’re admittedly not the most valuable part of the portfolio.

It’d be fun to have one last big hurrah of a successful football season to see all the old names return for a celebratory culmination, but realistically, our end will probably be an unceremonious lockout or invalid url one day.

I think it's best to leave these old boards up. Gets a little traffic and a few people checking things out that might want a subscription. I hope we know it's coming if they do change things up. It sounded like they are working out how they will combine certain things with the 2 sites and want to have that done over the next 2 months. So if they chose to end the open forums it would likely be in the next 2 months.

Yep I don't think I remember a board that gets as active as Rupp Rafters during basketball season. Not even any of the football ones I can think of.

Hasn't it already? So many posters have already vanished over the years, Homie, JD, LoveThug, ghost, "evil", oozie, Dannygator, DL, Gecko, fsu939913, MJWilliamson (RIP), numbers (46885), Paco (where the heck is he!?), Liz, BONG, danoleman, and many many more.

This is a fact. On game day they have the game thread and it is like entering a war zone. Page after page. If UK falls behind a few points you have posters wanting to run the coach out of town.

If you want entertainment that is the place to be.

I think at least half of the posters when I started here have passed. A few got mad about something and started posting elsewhere. A few are also bedridden now with dementia I think.

On the day that Zook was fired or Urban was hired, sadgator recalls thousands of participants (when you could view who was logged into the forum at the top). That would have been like the pinnacle of our participation.

Now it is a shell of that. Some of us die hards just don’t know when to quit.

For sadgator this was always the best site. The others were too uptight or too crowded. We always had the best mods and environment. Our mods were tolerant of a little nonsense and smack going both ways (as long as it was respectful and managed). There was a lot of latitude and if you went over the line and got banned, you generally deserved it.

The tone here really fit our personalities, and it’s been a joy interacting with everyone.

This forum serves a creative need outlet for sadgator. If it ends, sadgator will have to take up graffiti or interpretive dance or something.

It says 2008 on my account but I think I first posted here late in the 05 season and had to recreate my account in 08 for some reason. I used the same username then though. I just missed the Zook stuff on this site I guess. All the forums were pretty crazy over that issue.

It has been….certainly from 06’-09’ it had insane traffic ….. threads could disappear off the first page in a few hours. I once compared this board as a nice house party compared to a 100 keg beer blast at RR. Too many posters
I've seen the entire page stop working after they lost early in the tourney the last few years

Since May 29, 2001 -- But it was actually 1999 before a change way back then I think.

To those still here and to those that have moved on for one reason or another,,,,
(I'm Bowser in this and all the rest of you are Ethel,,, especially sad and the dogpoker)
😛

PS - If it goes paid, then I'll be gonzo...

I also remember Passover, Gwenth (Gwinett) Dawg, BucaNole( bragging about the TPain concert was epic) Noah2Leak, and few more whom I will think of later. Oh Marvin the Hurricanes fan.

Most notable poster-driven highlight moments in past 20 years…

5. Gecko’s war with Alabama fans.
4. Insta’s 1000+ post-years long fight about aliens in the “Holy Crap Seminoles were the first North Americans” thread.
3. Bucanole’s backfire smack citing T-Pain-Big Boi show and subsequent immediate FSU crash and burn (end of Bucanole).
2. BONG’s eventual high-profile complete meltdown and self-destruction over Muschamp’s incompetence (“Georgia Boy”).
1. Laker-Shime reveal.

I think me running Shine off should at least get a honorable mention.

CompuGator was WAY too intelligent to be insta (no offense)…

Yep, where I kicked the 'ain't no such thing as ET's or UFO's' moronic trolls butts all over that thread.

And have since hammered the old and the new deniers of the 'Infinite Universe' realities until they have all fled to hide under their beds in their mommies basements on the below linked thread for 37 more pages, so I'm at least proven a lot smarter than a sadgator and/or trolls, and I also get laid 10x's more, going by his own crybaby admissions...
