Insta, is Grantham still good?

UF missed a ton of tackles and Bama does this to everybody. Clemson gunna ransack bama in cfp. Im not saying Grantham isnt great or anything but i think its a combo of players and him

lol........... I've watched UF from having the best defense and worst offense in the entire country FOR YEARS and it's completely flipped. This is BS.

I feel bad for the offense UF seniors (and juniors) moving on. You guys were maybe the best in history as a group.......and that's saying something. Trask, Pitts, Toney, you won't be forgotten. You deserved a better fate.

Undisciplined players is a reflection of the coaching.

But it's more than that. Coaches have to put players in position to succeed. Do you see our guys pointing and running around all the time? They don't know what they are supposed to do.

Also Grantham isn't coaching hustle, and this annoys the crap out of me. There was a play where the Bama TE fumbled the ball and it was just laying on the turf until he got up and ran and jumped on it. No Gators got into the screen until he had jumped on it (He was down so it wasn't a fumble but still). One of the most basic defensive precepts is everybody runs to the ball. Where are our guys running to the ball? That's also coaching.

Poor scheme, poor fundamentals, poor organization. There are no reasons to keep Grantham. None.

We don't agree much on anything but football, but you get an amen here.

Our Muschamp defenses weren't as great as their stats. When you are playing a team you know isn't going to score 20 points on you, you can play conservative and wait for them to come to you. Combine that with our offensive strategy of trying to run as much clock as possible to limit the plays by the opponent, and you can have some pretty good defensive stats. I always thought Muschamp would rather win 7 games and have the nations top defense than win 12 and have the #25 defense.

It’s 99% him. We tackle poorly because we’re always reaching because we’re out of position at the snap. We do things schematically that literally makes no sense, like blitzing both corners in an obvious pass situation against LSU. Predictably they scored. Or blitzing both safeties and vacating the middle of the field on an obvious passing down. Literally the point of a safety is to guard the middle of the field, that’s why they’re called a safety, but only this idiot sends them on blitzes on 3rd and long. Or giving a 10 yard cushion in a soft zone on 3rd and 5. That’s easy pitch and catch you might as well be playing 7-on-7. He’s also the idiot that tries to wholesale sub against a tempo team. I mean this is basic $hit. How can you sub damn near an entire unit when the other team is going no huddle? We got 12 men on the field AGAIN today because he tried to do just that and gave Bama a free 5 yards on a crucial third down. He’s the most incompetent coordinator in the country.

He runs some of the dumbest and worst stunts at the wrong time too. I wish you would keep him forever. If Mullen keeps him around y’all are gonna be looking for a new head coach before you know it.

I dont disagree with anything you said herr about Grantham.... But the UF defenders cant tackle and its not always because they are reaching. They arm tackle, get run over, or just dive at the legs and miss. The jimmies and joes arent what they were a few a yrs ago on defense. He still sucks and id still fire his ass but its also the players. You guys ook like clemson on Offense but FSU on defense

Is it still the players fault when he has them playing 20 yards off receivers? That fat piece of trash once again costs us a game. Score 46 points and lose. With even a competent coordinator UF doesn’t lose a game this year.
He needs to go BUT, Bama has done that to EVERYBODY THIS YEAR. It’s last 5 were 232 - 36. But, blame needs to go to Mullen also as he’s the Captain of the ship. How you let Smith that open is beyond me. Double him and let the others beat you. Oh well, who here thought it would be a 6 point game when they scored in a minute to go up 34-17 at 1/2time?

And Grantham has looked like that against EVERYBODY this year. It's not just Bama. The players in the secondary aren't all Americans but they haven't been put into position to succeed. And they've looked like against every team that had a QB with a pulse.

We had an offense so good this year that nobody could stop it, not even the nations best team. And a defense so bad it could not stop anyone that did not stop themselves.

So Grantham has turned us into a Big 12 team. I find I do not like being a Big 12 team. I would like to be able to cheer the defense occasionally, and not for things like getting one stop after allowing 5 consecutive touchdowns. Cheering should not include the words "Thank God finally".

LG89,

Unfortunately, I must Agree with all you've said !

I have often wondered about the value of trying to look at the offensive scheme & then make a late substitution to defend it.

I have come to believe that in most cases, if your players have been coached well enough, you are better off to react with the players already on the field. Last night, we had a 12 men on the field penalty & looked totally unorganized half the time.

If we get rid of the late substitutions, perhaps we avoid some of those "Gash / Explosive" plays we fell prey to all season long !

Two questions -

When do you replace Grantham ? Before or after the Bowl Game ? Can make an argument either way.

Who do you replace him with ?
The harder of the two questions to answer !
Replacement's availability may answer the 1st question for us.

A few names to consider ?

Avalos & Leonard - young - which appeals to recruits - but Head Coaching ambitions probably mean they would not be here long.

BUT, how long is long enough to get Defense back on track ?

Parker - older, never been a head coach; but enough money & he might stick around.

Charlie Strong - Twice a head coach; currently doing Post-Graduate work as a defensive analyst for Nick Saban.

Who knows on any of them ?

I agree with the posts about lack of discipline. It's been a problem all year. Poor tackling has been an issue as well, not wrapping up, too. We wasted the best Gator offense since the 1996 title team, as with just a little bit better defense we could be 11-0 and playing Notre Dame.

Since the Bama defense gave up 46 Pts to the AP's #11 team, should Saban fire his DC and/or his entire defensive coaching staff? -- Asking for Todd.... ;)

Get rid of him right now, let the most promising up and coming guy be DC for the bowl game. He can't do a thing about scheme, but I would want to see better playcalling, organization (not trying to sub against a hurry up, as an example), and hustle. Maybe we have a guy on staff ready to step up, who knows?

When you get done digging this hole for yourself, bring me back some egg drop soup, m'kay?

LG89,

Exactly what I was thinking when I posted that question.

Seems like Grantham 2nd guesses himself with those last minute substitutions - then the penalties & explosive plays start.

IMO, would be miles ahead in terms of field position to call a play & then let the players' coaching & experience make any real time adjustments needed while play is in progress.

Won't win all of those matchups, but would be better off than what we are now. Plus with this year's offense, we could overcome a few defensive mistakes

As many posters have pointed out, players - especially the DBs -looking to sidelines to try to figure out what Coaching staff wants them to do instead of reacting to the offensive play unrolling in front of them.

Troll soup is not on the menu, so you'll just have to go to the 'Entitled Emporium' cafe to pick up your own.

PS
Using McLame's 4-7 recruits:
2018 - Top 10 (#9) in the Nation Defense
2019 - Top 19 (#7) in the Nation Defense
2020 - #62 defense with the Red Chinese Kung Flu in the mix.
But forget 18 & 19 because 2020 is Proof that the incompetent DC can't coach a lick....

would it please be noted that McLame gave Trask a scholarship.

please stay tuned for the vitriol insta will have for Grantham when he's gone.

He’s also been fired by UGA and Louisville. So let me guess...those two years (where we still got lit up by anybody with a pulse btw) means he’s great? His entire coaching career supports the fact that he’s at best an average coach on a good day.
