NASHVILLE, Tenn. — Newly leaked audio from Tennessee Republican Lawmakers published by The Tennessee Holler shows apparent infighting over last week's vote to expel two Black Democratic lawmakers.
The audio reveals GOP lawmakers in a private caucus meeting disagreeing with each other after the vote to expel Justin Jones of Nashville and Justin Pearson of Memphis, but keeping Gloria Johnson of Knoxville.
The audio also features several GOP House members upset about the fallout from the expulsion votes.
Commissions in Nashville and Memphis both voted to reinstate Reps. Jones and Pearson earlier this week.
A group of Democratic U.S. Senators has called for the U.S. Department of Justice to investigate the expulsions.
