It only lasted a week before we ruined y'alls season again like we've done many times. Not like it didn't happen recently either 2012 y'all were ranked #2 & we beat y'all.
It may have lasted a week in 1985 but I don't recall Georgia ever being #1 since that time (i.e early 80s). Meanwhile
Florida has been #1 for many weeks (i.e, 35+ weeks) in '94, '96, '97, '01, '06. '08, & '09.
Furthermore, by having the conference's best record, Florida still won the SEC "on the field" both
in 1985 & 1984. Many Florida fans
still remember that Georgia was one of the 7 SEC schools that voted to strip the Gators of their 1st SEC title. Hence,
Florida fans won't shed a tear when
Georgia loses again to the Gators either today or later this season!
As everyone in the SEC soon found out,
you can't keep the Gators down forever. Hence, UF's winning record over every team in the SEC (including Georgia) since around that time. Remember too, Spurrier & Meyer's Florida teams put on some historic butt whoopings on the Georgia Bulldogs for decades.
Finally, judging by the sanctimonious NCAAs action today against favorite teams like North Carolina basketball, the NCAA & SEC penalties against Florida football back in the 1980s were
excessive, unfair &
unwarranted. So much so that it costed Florida
a 3rd SEC title in football in
1990 because of a minor, unproven penalty by Florida.
So run along bulldog fan, Gators do have a long memory!
Chomp! Chomp!
