Reilly is a really unique man, and in a time when narratives rule the day he's an academic that's actually using logic, facts and research to show things aren't as awful as some want you to believe. His writing style is a little dense, but he has two excellent books on this subject. If you don't mind a challenging read I highly recommend them.
I think it's ok to admit we have a ton of work to do, but at the same time take stock and realize we've made amazing progress in the last 50-60 years.
It shouldn't matter, but it should be pointed out Wilfred is an African American college professor living in Kentucky. I only preface with that information because he'd likely have an educated perspective on both being black in rural America ("Trump country", if you will) as well as the current state of politics in higher education. I think we should at least listen and think about what he has to say, even if we don't agree....think about a world where we use positive reinforcement for change as opposed to how we're doing it now.
