In a shocking development, Everett Golson is named the starting QB at FSU.

None of us saw that coming, no sir, not a one.

Shocking. A guy that has two full seasons starting at a major program, including a NC appearance miraculously wins the job over a guy with one shaky start and a true freshman.

I'm not sure what the gator point is on this.

For those with short memories (Noles and Danny), the consensus on this board was that Golson was promised the starting job or he would not have gone to FSU. Noles said "no way". Yet here we are. If any of you want to claim that fiction of a camp battle was real, well, there's this really cool bridge I can get you at a really cheap price...

...Grier may be interested in that...

It was about as real as Winston and Coker. Look for Maguire to transfer to a top 10 program soon. (unless, of course, the gig is up and other schools are onto Jimbo's shtick)

If Golson would have been outperformed in practice & scrimmages he wouldn't be starting.

This ain't shocking to anybody. Even Noles, if they were honest with themselves, knew Golson was brought into start. You don't risk upsetting your team to bring in a guy to be a backup when you have 4 other young QB's on the roster you could play. And actually it would have made more sense for FSU to do that since this year is considered a 'rebuilding' year anyway. Get those guys experience and make a run next year. Because the truth is even with one of the younger guys they should still win 10 games with that schedule. So that right there let you know Golson was being brought in to start.

In the words of Mr. Grier "wow"

Being a nole means never having to admit anything, and forever the victim....always the little brother.

I'd like to submit this into evidence.

"as ESPN’s Brett McMurphy reports, Seminoles head coach Jimbo Fisher made sure to communicate to his newest signal-caller that he is not guaranteed the starting gig before summer camp starts. He’ll have to earn it."

Now granted....there was not a video of this event but there were two turntables and a microphone.

Good job giving life to another Nole thread though, Bay. :) We are obviously willing to help keep the place alive. :) Where are your Georgia rivals when you need them? :)

It doesn't make a lot of sense that Golson would transfer somewhere for his final year of eligibility if he wasn't 99.999999% certain he'd be a starter.

Finally, a Nole who can be real about the situation. It's really not a big deal either way, but for some reason people can't admit this is the case. Of course everything that Jimbo says publicly has to mention an open competition, he could risk pissing off many of his QB's if he didn't.

I'm not saying he and the rest of the college football world weren't fairly certain in EG being able to beat out SMAG. Hell, Grier might be able to do that. What I am defending is Jimbo saying "I promise you the job". That is just rival fodder with no substance.

Golson could have gone just about anywhere and played. You really think he chose a school where he wasn't guaranteed to start, regardless of what was said publicly? Use some common sense.

My "argument" with danny (iirc) was simply no way Jimbo was going to just throw Golson the keys unconditionally. It's more likely promises were made along the lines of:

"Put in the work, the job is yours"
"Learn the system and the job can be yours."

"Work hard and you've got the job"

I can't imagine Jimbo saying no matter what, I promise you you'll start. Heck, if that were the case, Golson could have pulled an X-Lee and just goofed off until game day.

I believe it was more a case of, "It's your job to lose" than it being "It's guaranteed yours."

Why is this even a discussion? Does anyone believe Jimbo's pick-up line was, "Hey, wanna come to FSU and be a back-up?"

If he could have gone just about anywhere and played why would he need a promise?

That's exactly why he would need a promise. Why go to FSU and 'compete' when LSU, OU, etc. all had jobs open and wanted him?

So then it's just semantics we're arguing then? Fine, I agree. But telling a guy if he works hard the job is his is basically promising him the job. I mean it's not as if the other QB's wouldn't be working hard either, right?

Telling a kid the job is his if he works hard is the line used in every living room in America when a recruiting coach sits down. EG couldn't go to LSU because of some feel good rule the SEC has recently imposed. Same reason he couldn't go to UF who he also visited. I have no idea why he didn't go to OU?. Maybe he liked what he saw when he visited us last year? Not sure.

I always assumed it was just semantics. I never doubted for a second Golson would be the starter, I've seen them both play. :p

Anyone thinks Russell Wilson was promised the starting job at Wisconsin?? How about the new Oregon qb?? I'm trying to understand the logic on this. So basically you guys are saying if a Senior QB takes advantage of the rule and transfers, that means he was promised the starting job?? Or is Strictly a Jimbo thing??

Not strictly a Jimbo thing. And again it isn't even a big deal, it's just being discussed because a lot of Noles somehow acted as if Jimbo promising a job to a guy was beneath him. He'd have been stupid not to have promised the job to Golson anyway because he's >>>>>> McGuire. Were I in his position I would have promised him the job too, whatever it takes to win.

It mean Jimbo is da debbil.

IMO I don't think Jimbo said to EG. "You're the starter if you come here. I promise!"

That would suggest to EG you don't have to work hard b/c you already have the job.

I am trying to count the number of shits I give about this. I can't get past zero

Sadly, it's a thread topic that's been started at least 4 different times by your brethren. I'd think the ONLY time you would care would be the week before our match-up, then it would simply be from a UF defensive scheme perspective.

Weirdest topic I've seen on here.

Not much different than the number of FSU fans wading in on the Grier/Harris debate.

BTW, when are you going to comment on our ridicule of your SOS source?

1. Hey, I was just agreeing with you. I don't care who starts at either school until it's game week.

2. You mean the same source I gave you last week and you posted you'd look at the data because you love numbers? Ya, I told you, I'm limited in sites I can access, so I chose that one and stuck with it so I wouldn't be accused changes sources to support an argument. I'm sorry you don't like Soren Sorensen's math.

I'd be happy to read through any sources you post on the topic. I broke down each decade from 1980 separately and posted the results. Then I averaged out the three and posted the results. I'd be curious to my numbers compared to another source. (sincerely)

Any time, ANY TIME you post numbers showing Florida has a #8 SOS, when 6 of the programs above Florida are 1-AA programs, you are going to get ridiculed. I love numbers, but using stupid sources to try and make a point is just stupid. Had you said, "According to this source, Florida's SOS in 1996 was number two when comparing 1-A programs" then that might have been fine. But posting that Florida has a #8 SOS without acknowledging that six of them are 1-AA programs above Florida smacks of, at best, incompetence.

FTR, my source for Florida having the #1 SOS in 1996was an article that used the NCAA definition. Why don't you try and do the same?
