everything is starting to point that way. TIFWIW.

Those with connections inside are saying this is about he only name being tossed around

Someone posted a link on another thread about it. As I said there, not a bad plan c. It might be "boring" as Danny says, but he has done ok at MSU. He should at least bring balance. Maybe he might bring back his DC that also coached at UF before Shannon?

The program would be generally run better, he does know offense and Florida.

But he lost to USA, and he regularly has meltdowns like that.

Idk...we’ll see...

Still holding out some last second curve ball happens.

Unbelievable if true. The guy has shown he sucks against better competition even when he has some good players. You don't win like 2 of 18 mutual top 25 matchups by accident and luck alone should give a coach one winning SEC season in 9 years.

I am not a huge fan of the hire. But lets be fair, that is hands down the worst job in the SEC.

IF we get Mullen, it's a clear upgrade. He's been here before, he's coached against top level competition and he's had moderate success at a school with significantly less resources than UF.

Does anyone know how well he communicates to the fans and media? I think that is an underrated part of the job.

Well he hasn't recruited the worst in the SEC there that is for sure. I just think he is an average coach and his results scream that. This is the AD panicking I think after the Kelly fiasco and knowing we aren't getting Frost.

You have a different definition of moderate success than me I guess. He is a jerk according to people who worked around him.

Apparently not so much so if that his AD of 5 years at MSU brought him aboard

And if you want to judge him by success, do it against other MSU teams please

Saban is kind of a jerk, too, but he wins and so that is overlooked. When Mullen was at Florida he was in his early 30's and having tremendous success. Cocky for sure. But don't you think he's matured and gotten more savvy in his 9 years in Starkeville? He wasn't my 1st choice, but he's a veteran of the SEC with log term proven success. I say get behind him and give the guy a chance. We could have and have done much worse!!

Kelly, Frost were splash home runs. I have not seen that Frost has turned down UF, however if UF has shifted its attention to Mullen then it obviously did not work out behind the scenes. Mullen is safe pick that could at least right the ship at a minimum and possibly have it ready for that 'splash hire' down the road a few years from now. He could also be the guy who turns UF into a big time program again.

Mullen seemed to be most everyone's 4th-6th pick after Kelly, Frost, and Norvelle for sure. He was somewhere with Taggart and Strong. What do most of you think if it ends up being Mullen and not any of the others?

I have mixed emotions if true, but if nothing else we should have much better QB play. If everything equal, with the resources at UF vs MSU he should be able to build a good ball club and be competitive.

It’s not a bad hire. I think we were hoping for these huge offensive guys, but I’ll take balance and good QB play any day as it will be much better improvement than anything we’ve had since his departure.

I guy that had good info on Gators stuff previously before the Kelly fiasco says Taggart can still take the job if he wants it before they hire Mullen but he doesn't think Taggart will.

Mullen is a career .600 coach who is .468 in SEC matchups. He's a guy with no conference or division titles, no BCS bowl wins, and only one 10 win season in 9 tries. If that isn't the definition of mediocre, what is? Hell, bring in Les Miles then. He's got much better credentials than Mullen, who is hated by the fan base.

We'll, he's been competitive playing in arguably the most difficult division in college football. To me, that's a better resume than either Muschamp or McElwain. No one would think it's a home run hire but it's moving in the right direction. Gator football isn't fun right now. I'll take what I think will be a significant improvement.

Of course, we don't even know if he will be the guy.

I think calling him competitive when he loses to almost every good team he plays is being really generous.

Good thing we're bringing in a guy who has never competed for a conference title to compete for conference titles. That sounds like a great strategy.

Worse than Vanderbilt? Kentucky? How much better is Ole Miss or South Carolina? Or even Mizzou?

Can I send you a box of Kleenex for your tears on not getting Norvell.

No job in the East could be considered the worst since the Spurrier era. The west is brutal, I mean the East is like playing in a different conference

Did you see him at Miss ST.? And that guy at Utah got flattened multiple times per game. The dude could take a hit though.

You are ignorant. Hate the hire, we all do. But in an interview last year before the playoffs Prescott specifically credited Dan Mullen and his staff for having him prepped to take over as a rookie.

Stop with the nonsense

Yes, I'll take a box of Kleenex, not for missing out on Norvell but every other decent coach out there and settling for a complete joke of a coach who has never won anything decent as a HC. Let the Ron Zook 2 era begin.

lol Prescott ran the ball a bunch taking hits at Miss State. Corral would be smart to avoid Mullen imo. The guy at Utah took a crazy beating but he could really take a hit. I think you are ignorant.
