We all know that no one wins SEC titles and consecutive Nat’l Championships with smoke and mirrors. Our despised rivals from Athens have plenty of reasons to crow. But… here’s a reason Florida could rain on the puppy dogs’ parade this Saturday in Jacksonville: the schedule!

So far UGA’s played and defeated this out-of-conference line-up: Tennessee-Martin, Ball State and UAB. How about the SEC victims? Conference records only after each:

South Carolina, 1-4
Auburn, 0-4
Kentucky, 2-2
Vanderbilt, 0-4

They’ve only missed the other two bottom feeders in the conference, Missing State, 1-3, and Arkan’tsaw, 0-5. Note that of the three wins achieved by UGA’s conference opponents to date are a Kentucky victory against Vanderbilt and the not-so-Gamecocks over Missing State. In fact, the only quality win is the Wildcats’ 33-14 triumph vs Florida in Lexington.

Florida is an improved team since that wretched performance in Lexington.

Basically Georgia has played the SEC’s equivalent of Larry, Curly and Moe with Klem Kaddidlehopper thrown in.

I shared this earlier this morning in response to Franz Beard’s Thoughts of the Day elsewhere as our good friend is making his case for the Gators via his overnight columns posted each morning. Franz understands and appreciates this old grudge match as well or better than anyone.

Florida represents Georgia’s first and only quality opponent so far this season. There might be some “shock to the system” for the red and black doggies provided the Gators play our best game to date.

In other words, Georgia can be had.
