You mean the guy SOS demoted from the DC position because our defenses were horrible?

Spurrier forgot to recruit any LB !

Spurrier the opposite side of the coin from Muschamp; with Spurrier the last few scholarships went to offensive players; WR especially; with Muschamp they went to defensive players; never an OL !

Grantham is the DC,,, period. o_O

I'd consider the Zookster for the ST's coach in a NY second. --- :D

I did not create the thread - see MichiGator;

I did not create the site - see below

"...While he may not have been a hot commodity in Gainesville, some in the Illinois fanbase still must hold Zook in high regard as a new site for the coach has been created — www. hireronzook.com."

I'm not calling for a DC change, but if it were to happen, I would rather hire Charlie Strong as DC again over Zook. Yes, he's the HC at USF, but with records like 7-6 and then 4-8, he may not be there much longer. I think if he zeroes in and focuses only on the defensive side of the ball, we would have a top 5 or even top 3 defense.

I don't have a problem with Grantham, but to see UF give up 3rd down over and over and over again against really good teams is almost maddening. You never have any real confidence that UF will make that stop. You can't blame it on a specific roster of players, because this has been going on at UGA as well........... aka his nickname.

As I have said, the game has passed Charlie by. He is a soft zone guy, today's elite passing offenses eat that up. And we now have elite passing offenses in the SEC, so there's that.

Time for fresh blood and fresh ideas.

I'll take your word for it. In truth, I haven't paid a ton of attention the last few years or so on him.

I will say this. I am against bringing Charlie back, but if they did it wouldn't be idiocy. Bringing Zook back as DC would be idiocy.

But he IS a good recruiter. If he came in as recruiting coordinator, I could see that. Wouldn't be the best choice, he's been out of the game for a long time, but it wouldn't be the insanity that making him DC would be.

I will give Zook credit as one of the best recruiters we've ever had. It was well known that while Bobby Bowden would be doing in home visits for the recruits, Spurrier preferred to spend all his spare time at the golf course. He left all the recruiting up to Zook. It was Zook's recruits that were stacked that let Urban Meyer just waltz in and win a title in 2006.

I take exception to "waltz in and win a title". I could get long winded here, but I will not. I will just ask a question: Could Ron Zook have coached us to the title?

I don't want to take away credit of Zook's recruits, but it's a common saying that UF wouldn't have won the 2006 championship without Percy Harvin. However, I'm more in the line of thought that UF wouldn't have even been in the championship without Percy Harvin(who was recruited by Gonzales).

The other well known UF players later on...Brandon Spikes was recruited by Holliday. Tim Tebow(Mullen and Mattison). Riley Cooper(Drayton).

Zook was a great recruiter.....but not just anyone could have waltzed in and won a NC because of Zook. That's rather outlandish to say such a thing

I’m locking this thread. We have a DC at the moment and it is outlandish to even think Ron Zook would even be a candidate if the job was available. We aren’t just going to post hypotheticals when there isn’t even an opening.
