247Sports examined the first five years of Top247 data in order to determine how top programs nationally have developed four and five-star players. Those classes, 2010-14, span a full spectrum of eligibility across a five-year period. There are some holdouts from the 2014 class (fifth-year seniors). For the most part, however, the 1,235 prospects have exhausted their eligibility or filtered out of college football

If they included the 3 stars, UF would rank even higher. o_O

And notice the ones that are missing from the Top 10.
Choke-la-homo with Riley Coyote.
Tennis-sea with PP-UUU-it....
UGly with 4th & Dumb...
.

3 of the Top 10 teams are the Big-3 in Florida, UF-FSUcks-scUM
5 of the Top 10 are SEC teams, UF-UA-LSU-MS-aTm.

Zero Top 10's from the Big-12-10-whatever or the LAC-12.
==========

While Michigan, All-barn, USC and Tennis-sea are notable cases of squandered talent. The quartet had a combined 134 Top247 players qualify for this study; but only 8 of them turned into first-round NFL Draft picks.

So that means Muschamp and McElwain put Florida on top?

I need more info on how this formula works. Doesn't make sense from what we are shown. How are transfers dealt with? UF had a lot of QB's who transferred out and did well after. Are we getting credit for other people's work?

And perhaps those guys could develop players for the pros. If so it just shows how bad they were on game day.

I like the idea of tracking this, the methodology just seems to be leaning on old data. To me it would make more sense to use the last 5 seasons. Sure, you'd only have 1 or 2 classes that have gone pro, but we would at least have some sense of how the CURRENT staff is doing in most cases. 2010 is a lifetime ago as much turnover as we have among college coaches now. Hell 2014 is as well.

So where is Georgia?

Surely a path to the NFL is what Kirby has been selling to his recruits yes? Surely it's not big sacks full of money under the table or free cars. To be honest, the vast majority of these kids couldn't give a crap about a college national championship, not when they are high school recruits. They are thinking about the NFL and the paycheck, so that has got to be one of your main selling points.

Lizard,

"...To more accurately represent how a program develops players, 247Sports removed four categories of prospects from the data:
1. Players who were dismissed.
2. Players who didn’t qualify.
3. Players who medically retired.
4. Players who transferred after two or fewer seasons on campus.

If a player stayed three years and transferred, they count against a team’s 'not drafted' tab.

Q: Are we getting credit for other people's work?

A: If a player transferred and was drafted elsewhere, they count for the team to which they transferred."

Ok all jokes aside, someone in that article had a VERY on point comment about this entire article. This whole system does not take into account that there are 2 Miami and 1 FSU people from 247 who grade the recruits that will immediately downgrade any recruit from Florida who is showing interest or has committed to Florida itself. Overtime one can assume that in general, Florida's recruits have lower star ratings than what they actually deserve and thus they appear to be developed at a high rate at the school as far as entering the league is concerned.

We all know this happens, we see it each and every year, and it would have drastic changes to the end results of a study such as this. That said, it's good to be #1. This is what I've been preaching for years. Our coaches should be selling Florida as a #1 education first, an excellent path to the NFL #2, and compete in the best league in the land as #3.

grommit,

Was not aware of the make up of 247's ranking department or of any internal bias 247 personnel exhibited toward Gator commits.

I do recall many coaches saying we evaluate players internally & don't depend on rating services.

But when looking at Gervon Dexter & his lack of a 5th star, I begin to see your point.

I wouldnt attribute that to just player development. I would attribute it to the gators identifying players who are good and the dorks who rank them have no clue. I also agree at WORST your player development is good (thats the floor)..... And i hate it becuz our player development has been horrid at best

It's worth noting that Rivals ranks recruits based on COLLEGIATE potential, 247 ranks recruits based on PROFESSIONAL potential.

Most fans (*cough cough* Georgia) simply go with whatever service has their team ranked higher at any moment, without understanding what they are really ranking.

Now remember, my comment there was that someone in the comments section of that article on player development had pointed out the 247 personnel. I have no knowledge of such things, but remember last year, Chris Steele, our prize recruit was a 5* player in Rivals but only a 4* in 247.

You are right though, any sane and competent coaching staff doesn't recruit based on Rivals or 247, they do their own homework. Those ranking organizations are more for the fans and to make money by selling insider news and such on the whole recruiting party.

Then again, some teams about 500 miles north DO actually award themselves national championships based on recruiting as concerned from these outside organizations, so you do have that.

Well not this year. Georgia isn't going to be #1 by a long shot this year.

Love how you say in one sentence that it’s just for fans then turn around and insinuate the University if Georgia awards itself a recruiting NC and it’s not the fans.

Looks like they talk about both equally. Now what?

What does the numerical Rivals Rating (RR) mean?
6.1 = Five-star prospect

6.0-5.8 = Four-star prospect

5.7-5.5 = Three-star prospect

5.2-5.4 = Two-star prospect

6.1 Franchise Player: considered one of the elite prospects in the country, generally among the nation's top 30-35 players overall, a potential first-team All American candidate and a player deemed to have first round NFL potential.

6.0-5.8 All American Candidate: considered one of the next-tier elite prospects in the country, generally among the nation’s top 300-325 prospects overall, a national All American candidate and a player deemed to have first to third round NFL potential

5.7-5.5 All Region Selection: considered among the region’s top prospects and generally among the nation’s top 800-850 prospects overall, a potential All-Conference candidate and a player deemed to have mid to low-end pro potential and ability to impact at the college level.

5.2-5.4 Low End FBS prospect: considered a mid-major prospect with limited pro potential and expected to contribute 1-2 years at a high level maximum or often as a role player.

*At the end of National Signing Day, any prospect that signs with an FBS program, and we have not evaluated, will be assigned a 5.2 Rivals Rating (RR).

Are you going to be on here and lie to everyone about the national championship in recruiting ring that you are wearing? What about the Tshirts that were sold by Georgia?
