Gasoline prices already on the rise

I’m talking as a whole, from stalkers to perverts, it’s not as simple as adults and children if you believe that evil exists in the world. Hence the human condition that also comes into play such as adults acting like children, yes that too. I’m saying social media in general, with what we were speaking of face to face many don’t act the same way.
Are you talking about twitiots?

LOL so before he worked in the O&G industry for 30 years ( man I didnt know they hired 1 year olds,) he was a a Navy Seal sniper but got bored with it. He was a Grandmaster and the valedictorian of his high school. Not only did he letter in track but he was the star QB and was a 5* hoping to play for UF when he found out he had a medical condition that ended his career.

Man are we lucky to share our electrons with his on this forum.

Oh did he tell you the time he diverted a river to clean out a horse stable? Impressive right!

He disappeared after lecturing me on page 3 about oil being a global commodity, when I clearly stated that in post #7. Apparently reading comprehension wasn't one of his amazing feats! 😂

At isolated Goose AB, Labrador, I took class room course in Navy Seal self defense. Navy Seal sniper? That's a new one for me. Navy Seals train in long range shooting of course, but so did I in the Air Force. I've never heard of an Air Force sniper either. Tell me what I've missed.

Overcompensation.

You have missed a joke and bit of hyperbolic sarcasm. IOW I am skeptical of the claims of a certain poster on here. I am just waiting to be regaled with the story of how he climbed Everest when he was 12 becoming the youngest to ever do so. Maybe we can hear about the time he got his pilots license at 6 and would have gone to med school but knew he wanted to go into business instead.

I know a real "Doogie Howser" type who accomplished a lot but pales in comparison to our local genius.

I had Honors English and band class with this guy. Very humble although he knows he is usually the smartest guy in the room.

Funny thing is he was from Hartsville, SC but went to Sewanee in TN. I am originally from TN but we went to school together in SC. He went to college at 15 and double majored in English and Mathematics. He still has his boyish looks. I would recognize him on the street instantly even though I have not seen him in decades.

"Enrolling at age 15, President-elect Swallow graduated from Sewanee in 1989 with honors in both mathematics and English literature. He went on to earn two master’s degrees and a Ph.D. in mathematics, all from Yale University."

I didn’t disappear, just in the spirit of the new rules, I didn’t want to make a further comment on how dumb the second sentence was in that post. It is obvious that you only have a cursory understanding of the oil and gas business, but sometimes I just take the higher road to save you any further embarrassment.

You’re welcome.

You have an excellent memory. I’ll give you that.

Well to be honest I don't talk about my accomplishments because I have NONE. Well I did earn my Eagle.

When John and his rival in HS are your friends and one becomes a provost and the president of a college with a Ph.D in math and the other friend is this guy

you can judge you lack of success with a clear eye.

They were rivals for the same girl.

BTW my mom worked in records and she got to see the IQ tests. I and Natt were tied for 5th in our class.

I got a BS in CSC and ran a small biz for 16 yrs. So I basically failed at doing anything meaningful compared to these 2. So any amount of humbleness was earned the hard way.

For someone allegedly in the business, you haven't said one thing that isn't common knowledge. And you have yet to debunk one thing I've written. That's pretty embarrassing don't you think?
Really? Like when you said “remember when we didn’t have domestic oil production.” Or when you gave credit to Trump for energy independence when the shale Revolution started in the 1990s and came to fruition long before Trump took office. Or that the industry downturn started before the pandemic? Or when you said the O&G business would be worse under Biden than Trump? Or when you blamed Carter for our reliance on OPEC?

Baisically, you’ve gotten little right. About the only thing you’ve gotten right is that it’s a worldwide commodity, but then go into a diatribe about Biden. Your problem is that you look at this industry solely in political terms, since you a blind partisan, rather than economic terms.

How many times did you miss significant? If it were, then we wouldn't have been importing oil, now would we? Shit, anyone old enough to know we had some oil production remembers the Beverly Hillbillies. How did Jed get rich? I got nothing wrong about Biden. He's an asshole and done nothing in 5 decades in politics. He's corrupt, and he's an idiot to complement it. He not only knows it, he openly admitted it with regard to Ukraine. Sorry sport, that can't be unseen and unheard.

He was asking me.... “Crack spreads” are the margin between the prices of gasoline and diesel minus the crude price. Not what you were implying earlier. o_O It’s basically a surrogate for refining profitability.

I haven’t answered @BSC911 because my VPN has been done all day.

Yea, I was making a funny.

I'm cool with it, personally. @rhavill chimed in, he actually has experience in the industry. He said the record straight, especially on Trump's accomplishments. So all good.

Seems to me that the highest I ever saw oil prices were under W. Wow George Bush made money from oil. The only thing worse would be if the vice president made a bunch of money from war. We Frack now because it cost efficient. It did not used to be. Gas was pretty cheap when Clinton was Pres.

Gas was pushing $5.00 a gallon at one point under obama. I think it was between $2-3 under Bush.

I went back and looked. The highest gas prices every got under Bush was $396.00. Highest under Obama was $385.00. Local taxes could have changed what you paid at the pump but nationally the highest price of gas in this country ever belongs to W.

From the ole liberal standby Snopes:
"In March 2012, the same month the second image was photographed, The Washington Post reported: “According to AAA’s national survey of gas prices, a gallon of regular-grade fuel is averaging $4.15 in the District. The average price was about $3.85 a gallon a month ago.” The Washington Post also wrote: “The District is topped by only four states where gas averages more than $4 a gallon. Its prices are surpassed by those in Illinois, Alaska, California and Hawaii, where the average is $4.54 a gallon.”

However, according to the U.S. Energy Information Administration, the national gas price average over the eight years that Obama and Biden were in office was $2.96 per gallon for regular, unleaded gasoline. By comparison, the same data showed that the previous eight years under President George W. Bush saw an average of $2.13 per gallon. Under Trump’s first term through October 2020, the comparative price was $2.53."

PS: Note again, they fact-checked a claim that wasn't made.

You are not arguing my original point. I do not dispute on average prices were higher under Obama. I said the highest was when Bush was the President. The highest ever for a barrel of crude was June of 2008. It was $148.93. It is still the record. The highest national average was July 17 the following month and it was $4.11 per gallon. Also still a record. I was just going off memory because at that time gas prices were hurting me quite a bit.

The Snopes fact-check says it got up to $4.54 a gallon under obama, which is in line with my memory. I remember everyone saying it could eventually hit $5 a gallon, but I don't remember it doing so.

Although to be fair, most people weren't working then, so they didn't have to buy the $4.54 a gallon gas under obama. So I guess there's that.

My fuel bill back then was at least $250/mo and my car got 30 mpg. It would be $100/mo if I were driving the same amount back when gas was about $1.7

I can use that $150 instead of pissing it IMHO down the drain.

I'm not going to argue the point. What I do remember is I traveled the state of Florida quite a bit and I distinctly remember paying 1.50 a gallon in Jan 2007. That was definitely Bush domain. I only remember it because it was lower than I could remember since at least two decades prior. You can look that up and verify it.

I specifically remember paying just under $2.00 a gallon in the summer of 2005. Right about the same it is now.

Remember paying around $4.50 under obama. It just kept going up and up and up. Fracking finally kicked in (despite obama's best efforts) and the bottom fell out of the price of gas.

Biden is on record to be against fracking. That sucks for shale oil extraction. Remember when we didn't have domestic production? Hello Jimmy Carter, gas prices through the roof, and gas rationing. Oil is a global market, but it helps to not be at the end of a gun barrel. When our resources get crippled, guess what happens to domestic oil prices? We are no longer hostages to OPEC.

If my memory is accurate, in the late 90s early 2000 I remember paying just over a dollar. That was Clinton and early Bush. When Clinton was pres gas prices went from around 91 cents to a buck fifty. I am probably older then you guys. When I started driving gas was around 60 cents and we thought that was high. I remember Bush because it was costing me close to $100,00 to fill my tank.

FWIW: Oil is traded in U. S. dollars, the world's reserve currency and the first metric currency.

One dollar = 100 cents and 1000 mils.

U. S. gasoline prices are always posted in dollars. Currently $1.879 at my Murphy's.

It's about a dime higher here. But you are closer to the source, so that lowers prices. Surprised that @BSC911 didn't know that.

Bunch of commies.

If Hiden is allowed to take office, here's what will happen in California:

Newsom will continue to run the state into the ground, people will continue to leave. This will create a massive drain of income for the state.

Over the summer, there will be another sudden explosion in wildfires. Hiden administration will leap into action and pump hundreds of billions into the state in the form of 'disaster aid'. Money will cover the shortfall from working conservatives leaving the state. Illegals will continue to flood the state, population becomes dark blue and moves into the formerly red rural areas.

I have a friend who lives in silicon valley. Very bookish, the definition of 'book smarts, no street smarts'. PhD at Stanford, career student, the whole nine. She posted on FB over the summer that it was so odd to see moving trucks every day in San Francisco. Why are people moving away? Where are they going?

I’ve worked in the O&G industry for 20 years and you are both correct. Government can have a significant impact on oil prices (ie: quarantine mandates). But there are also many external factors out of our control that also can have a significant impact(ie: OPEC).

It amazes me how everyone has to piss all over each other these days. It’s like arguing with my brother when I was a little kid. I’m right and he is wrong and he’s an idiot. Whatever happened to having a little respect for one another regardless of what our political beliefs are? I think we all can agree that decent people respect others regardless of race, gender age etc. When did people decide it’s ok to disrespect others with differing political opinions? How is that any different?
I agree with what you are saying but it completely disregards the demographics of the internet. I have a 9 year old granddaughter who loves to get on the internet and talk smack about politics. She is pretty bright and the people she is talking with have no idea she is 9 and doing it only for kicks. Most people that post especially the condescending ones would be unable to intelligently communicate in a real person on person debate.

Not sure what world you live in but I would say most 9 year olds now a days get on the internet. In fact they probably are required to do so for school assignments. I also do not interfere in how parents raise their own children. Your statement is outdated and if I were your parents I would keep you off the internet. Good grief indeed.
