"Will Muschamp is no longer the head football coach at South Carolina. Muschamp, who was hired in December 2015, was removed from his position on Sunday just a day after his team’s 59-42 loss to Ole Miss.

Muschamp finishes his career at South Carolina with a 28-30 overall record with the Gamecocks and a 17-22 mark in the Southeastern Conference. The Gamecocks were 2-5 this season and he finished his career with three straight losses, all by three scores or more.

A defensive-minded coach who built his career on being a coordinator on that side of the football for LSU, Auburn and Texas, Muschamp oversaw a defense this year allowing 464.4 yards per game, which is 12th in the SEC, and 36.7 points per game, which is one spot from the bottom in the league."

Under Muschamp, the Gamecocks were 0-4 against Clemson losing by a combined score of 184-55.

It wasn’t always bad for the Gamecocks under Muschamp, though. South Carolina won the most games (22) in the first three years under him than any other head coach in school history, which topped what Steve Spurrier did by one victory.

If Mullen is tired of 3rd & Grantham; Muschamp is a great recruiter as well as a DC.

I wouldn't even mind him possibly so much right now over Grantham as our DC. He did one thing right in his four years here and he dominated other teams with his defensives. It was the fact he didn't realize we also needed an offense which is what sunk his chances.

He now failed at South carolina not based on his skillset but because he was coaching at South Carolina and they somehow think they deserve better than 3-7. They have the same problem that Tennessee fans have right now.

He did fail at UF and USCjr based on his skill set. He’s a lousy head coach.

Hopefully Dan Mullen will reach out to Muschamp before Bama or FSU does.

Mullen was talking to Charlie Strong about analyst position; only difference I see is that Muschamp is current on SEC teams.

Other thoughts on Muschamp -

"Offensive coordinator Mike Bobo will serve as South Carolina's interim head coach, per Uva.

Liberty head coach Hugh Freeze and Louisiana-Lafayette's Billy Napier are early, but obvious, names to watch in regards to South Carolina's vacant head coaching position, according to Sports Illustrated's Ross Dellenger.

The last time Muschamp was relieved from head coaching duties, by Florida, he wound up spending one season as Auburn's defensive coordinator before leaving for Columbia, S.C.
It wouldn't be a surprise to see Muschamp land another coordinator role quickly, but it might be in a program's best interest to give it time before hiring him as a head coach again."

All joking aside; leery of hiring Muschamp as either an analyst or a DC. I doubt he would stick around for long.

Grantham has had his problems this year with the influx of offensive minded head coaches into the SEC, but better the devil you know than someone who will be out the door before the ink dries on his contract.

Flip flopping DC's & defensive systems a recipe for disaster.

Better to lock Mullen down & keep his offense in the swamp rather than letting him go to NFL.

I find it weird that usce seems to think they have standards as well. Granted, SOS and Lou holtz ended their careers there, but it’s not like even those two guys were winning titles. Muschamp seems about the right level for them. Regardless, I’ll take him as an analyst. Why not?

I think it was how they were losing. Either getting blown out and not even being competitive or actually being in games but showing no sense of urgency to try and win the game. Typical Muschamp style.

Between UF & SC, dude will make over $20 mil NOT to coach. I need his agent.
I guess it was the fools gold season of 2012 at UF and the year the Cocks beat Meatchicken in the bowl game is what added to his buyout. I was totally against an extension after the 2012 season. Why Fooooley allowed him to coach the rest of the season is beyond me. The same way he allowed the Zooker to coach the remainder of the season. And what were some of the dumbass UF fans thinking when they created a rehire Ron Zook website?

Once you are fired at a program as HC, you can never go back in any capacity.

TJ,

You could / should be right.

I am grasping at straws for our lost D !

Frustrating to have an offense this good, coupled with a defense that is so inconsistent. Giving up all these explosive plays on defense is irritating.

Have you seen Muschamp’s defense the last few years? I don’t believe it has been very good.

Not that this makes it better, but Ron Zook called a better defense than what is on the field this season.

For the get rid of Grantham whiners: Lucy, you got some splaining' ta-doo....

UA 38 - 19 Mizzou (-19)

UF 41 - 17 Mizzou (-24) -- 2 Pts less scored

UA 63 - 48 Miss (-15)

UF 51 - 35 Miss (-16) -- 13 Pts less scored

UA 41 - 24 UGly (-17)

UF 44 - 28 UGly (-16) -- 4 Pts more scored

~~ IF Bama fires HC Saban, I'd be okay with hiring him as Mullen's new DC..... ;)

Grantham has had UF in the Top 10 in the Nation in defense in his 1st 2 years, #7 in 2019.
Note: He and Dan took over a cluster, and he's still playing with that other guys recruits... 🤓

Fsu wont. Norvell has no ties to him and why the hell would he coach players who think social distancing rules apply to when you are playing defense. I havent seen us within 6ft of anybody this yr
