FSU hires Taggart

High ceiling meaning what? What would you consider the limits of Mullen here? Anything short of being in the conversation for National Championships won't sit well with our fans.

Completely agree. Mullen will be expected, in year one, to field a football team that does not resemble monkeys fornicating with footballs. In year two, we should expect a ten win season and some success against our three main rivals. In year three, we should expect that our roster is greatly upgraded and are challenging for a SEC title at minimum

Making fun of a rival is fine. I will do it when Willie makes it 6 in a row against UF.

Sounds like the donkey...

Sharks should feel alot safer as well. I am not putting that picture up.

"WT does not have the X's and O's pedigree to match JF". Really? Have you ever watched an FSU offense coached by jimbo that didn't have Winston in it? I might be able to match the X's and O's jimbo came up with. Jimbo's offense is unstoppable, or at least it was in the 70's when he learned it. Not so much in today's world.

And he also had an ace in the hole in his recruiting efforts called FSU. I suspect Taggert will recruit every bit as well as jimbo did, maybe even better as he is more relatable to today's players. What we have to see is can he do better with the talent than jimbo did. Let's see what this all looks like in 2020 and only then will we know what we have.

From 2010, until a month ago, all we ever heard about Jimbo was that without Jameis, "Dumbo" is an average coach. Now that Jimbo dumps FSU, he's suddenly one of the best coaches in the game.

FSU could not afford him.

I give him credit for that. A FSU coach can cover up a lot of meH by consistently beating Florida.

Hung up? No, we are making fun of you guys. Why. Because rivalry. And also by any measure, Florida experienced an upgrade in both coaching and recruiting. At best FSU went sideways in recruiting and has a demonstrable downgrade at coaching

Well, there's no question that UF got an upgrade in coaching. Though, who would have been a downgrade from McElwain?

Like I said, you are smarter than that.

With all his faults, JF is a better coach than WT.

Of that there is no question

And kelly is STILL whining like a 3 year old over the loss of his man crush jimbo. Dude, I know you thought you had a shot with him when he got divorced, but you really didn't. Face it, he just isn't in to you.

NOBODY knows how ANY of the relocated coaches are going to work out. Not Taggert, Mullin, kelley, Cristobal, Jimbo etc., and we won't know for a few years. Perhaps you should stop crying, dry your eyes, pull up your big boy panties and find a new flame to follow while the adults wait to see what we have in our new coach(s).

The fact is Jimbo was a great recruiter but a lousy coach who had no idea what to do with the talent. It won't take a genius to have better game plans than he came up with and any new assistant coaches will be an improvement over the trash jimbo hung out with. Funny he isn't taking much of his staff with him. I wonder why that is?

Nice reply. Now who is whining and acting like a three year old? Anyways, if you want to have a rational conversation without getting so emotional then let's do it. If not, then do not bother replying. Look, I know you are butt hurt, like many others over there, about Jimbo bailing. The reality, if you and others care to see, is Jimbo and the admins just did not see eye to eye on what they felt FSU needed to be or could be. Yes, look at it objectively, it was a marriage that steadily soured. Both sides did not agree throughout the years and that is one of the big reasons why Jimbo was courted each and every Fall by other powerhouse programs with deep pockets. It was not just this year with aTm. Go check out LSU(x2), Auburn, Texas, WVU, etc...The guy was coveted by everyone because he was a top coach that some felt could be swayed due to him wanting more for the program than FSU could give. It is not that FSU did not try or was cheap. The IPF, locker rooms, etc are evidence of FSU willing to spend some coin. The problem is they need to raise funds for bigger purchases whereas a school like aTm just pulls out a checkbook, signs it, then gives it to Jimbo to fill in the numbers. FSU spent a lot, but a corvette is not what Jimbo wanted in a program...he wanted the Lamborghini,,,

A few facts for you...Jimbo is the #1 paid coach with a 10 year guarantee of 75M. During his tenure at FSU he trailed only Saban in overall recruiting results. He was top three in W/L record. He won a natty. WT is a green unproven P5 coach who nearly got canned two years ago at USF. He actually called his high school coach to help him figure out what offense to run. He goes to Oregon for less than a year and they finish just over .500. They got blown out five times (losing by double digits). The closest one of those games he did not even coach (bowl game against Boise St). Those are the two coaches with actual results. Nothing spun or made up. No emotions involved.

Point is, many 'Noles, like yourself, are truly hurt by Jimbo and are very emotional about him leaving. I get it, you and the others feel scorned. In reality, Jimbo was a spouse who simply wanted more than what FSU could provide. FSU could not and still cannot just scratch out checks for 60M football only facilities because the head coach feels it will be a competitive advantage. aTm came at Jimbo with the ATM and literally bankrolled his entire 'wishlist'. Virtually unlimited facility upgrades, virtually unlimited support staff upgrades, an extremely generous assistant coach budget (not really a budget since they will probably pay what they need to get the coaches Jimbo wants), and a freaking record breaking mega 10 year guaranteed contract that even Nick Saban cannot come close to touching right now.

I have based my opinions on objectively reviewing what went on with Jimbo over the years and how WT has performed since he was almost fired at USF. I have said before, WT could be a boom hire as long as he can surround himself with quality assistant coaches that know how to game plan and coach the X's and O's. He will be hard pressed to beat Fisher's track record in recruiting over the past eight years. He is trying to keep this year's class together with some players sticking, others still bailing, others who de committed and will not come back, and others who were thought to not be an option who will now heavily consider FSU. Again, I fully expect WT to recruit well. It is difficult to not do so at FSU since both of his predecessors were amongst the best recruiters ever.

BTW, I thought Bowden was FSU until he starting to go off the rails after 2000. Fisher was the perfect guy to resurrect the program and he did bring FSU back to an elite status with a national championship to boot. What did the future hold with Fisher and FSU if he stayed another couple years? Fisher leaving was his call and I merely just respect him for what he did while he was at FSU and I understand it is a business when it is all said and done. I wish him well and I wish FSU's new coach even more good fortune. Just don't expect me to start humping someone like you and others are doing until he actually proves he knows what the heck he is doing. Missing out on Leavitt, Arroyo, Cristobal now has him scrambling to find an oc AND dc. I am hopeful he lands on his feet and reels in a couple guys with a strong track record to help him with the game planning, X's and O's, problem solving, game management, etc.

Just heard from a friend close to the Wisconsin program that CWT tried to poach their DC Jim Leonard and was told no thanks. Seems like Willie is having a tough time getting a staff together

I haven’t paid a lot of attention the last few days but I think I saw that somewhere as well in a discussion about Pruitt going after Kelly for his DC.

That was the backup plan to Leavitt

Pruitt and Stoops had excellent defenses. Stoops inherited a dumpster fire and turned it around. Mickey had been great but BB twisted his arm to coach after he no longer wanted to due to familiy reasons, not a shot at Mickey but in retrospect it was a mistake for him to coach his last year.

Agreed. Loved Mickey but he was not pumping out the same defenses the last few years of his career. Stoops brought the D back and Pruitt’s only year at FSU was an elite Defense. I was reading a report that talked about how much of a difference Pruitt made at FSU even though he was only there a year. I guess he really modernized FSU recruiting and brought them up to speed with how Alabama and other SEC teams were doing things. With that said, Tennessee may have made a great hire.
