Small bakery was unfairly smeared by the University who now has to pay $36M.

“The message to other colleges is to have the intestinal fortitude to be the adult in the room,” Mr. Plakas said in an interview after the jury had awarded damages in June 2019."

Give credit to the NYT for publishing this. I read it and saw little spin.

They are finally paying up? The court system moves like glaciers.

Looks like it. Will absolutely chill other Universities
Are you kidding me?

Florida has a $2B endowment, as an example.

One $36MM lawsuit isn’t going to do anything but maybe force a smaller settlement next time.

But good for the bakery owners.

Harvard's is $53B, Oberlins is $1B, Vassar is a $1B, etc.

If $36B is no issue for Florida or other, why then, for example, did Foley not build an indoor practice facility? Athletic dorms?

Why did these colleges rely on Biden to relieve $10K or student debt where Vassar could have just eliminated the debt of 3,600 of it's alumnae?

The reason - no university can just "give away" 36M dollars plus the millions upon millions in legal fees not listed here.

Colleges “relied upon” Biden’s bailout? Really?

One $36MM lawsuit won’t do anything to change the ultra woke culture at our public and private universities…not how outspoken they are about it. The indoctrinated students and hyper liberal faculty won’t stand for it. They have constituents.

You’re high if you think differently.

You missed the point on loan bailouts

I agree that woke culture won’t “magically stop” here

my point is that administrations will be far more hesitant to blindly support student activists.

It’s only a projection, that may be right or wrong

The lesson here is to keep your opinion to yourself as an educational institution.

They don't get to essentially take credit for "doing the right thing" by paying off their legal debts. Very disingenuous.

And I agree with you that universities should be somehow compelled to use endowment $ to reduce student debt instead of using them as dick measuring contests ...

Precisely. Let the facts play out, presume innocence and let the facts determine the proper next path.

We are seeing a similar thing play out here at BYU. Apparently, there is no evidence that the BYU student sections hurled racial epithets against that volleyball player.

The point on student debt was just that Universities do not have the luxury of considering meaningless $36M regardless of their endowment is $53B, $1B or $36.01B.

On the general point of Student Debt, different topic, and I was opposed to the broad vote buying and abuse of executive power that Biden did, yes, the Universities need to be held accountable for their remarkable multi-decade in cost increases increasingly making higher education less affordable. Again, a different topic.

What's the incentive?

They know nearly endless federally backed student loan money is going to be there, and they are trying to recruit as many heads in beds as possible.

If you don't swing a big dick you're not going to last very long.

Crap example.

This isn't a woke AF response despite no other witnesses, no cell phone footage, no one else from either team hearing it...and she said it happened every time she served? If I'm the banned fan and I'm innocent you don't think I have a defamation case?

BYU Athletics did not confirm the specifics of the incident but announced they had banned a fan from all athletic venues and posted an apology on Twitter.

"All of God's children deserve love and respect, and BYU Athletics is completely committed to leading out in abandoning attitudes and actions of prejudice of any kind and rooting out racism," it said.

"When a student-athlete or a fan comes to a BYU sporting event, we expect that they will be treated with love and respect and feel safe on our campus. It is for this reason BYU has banned a fan who was identified by Duke during last night's volleyball match from all BYU athletic venues," according to the statement.

"We wholeheartedly apologize to Duke University and especially its student-athletes competing last night for what they experienced," the statement continued.

BYU is unclear. You are spot on. He was banned without due process. That was my point. How is that a "crap example", per se? Not sure if you are agreeing or disagreeing.

The foucs is really on South Carolina and Dawn Staley. They pulled out without - any due diligence findings. Clay Travis went in depth on this.

Staley is a woke virtue signaling SJW who will not be held accountable for her ignorant claims, based on hearsay.

The accuser should be banned from college sports at least and charged with a hate crime hoax ...

"This just in. BYU found nothing after an EXHAUSTIVE investigation."

If you had a white individual make false claims, what would happen? Exactly what you note.
