  • $1.6 bln defamation trial delayed by a day
  • Fox seeking possible settlement -source
  • Judge did not provide reason for delay
  • Fox chairman Rupert Murdoch set to testify
April 16 (Reuters) - The start of Dominion Voting Systems' $1.6 billion defamation trial against Fox has been pushed back by a day, the judge said on Sunday, with a source familiar with the matter saying the media giant was pursuing settlement talks.

The source, who was not authorized to speak publicly, told Reuters that Fox was seeking a possible settlement. The Washington Post and the Wall Street Journal also reported that Fox was pursuing settlement talks, citing sources.

Dominion is suing Fox Corp (FOXA.O) and Fox News in a defamation lawsuit over the network's coverage of the 2020 U.S. presidential election.

It will make no difference no matter what Fox has to pay out. Their viewership is more than CNN, MSNBC and NBC combined. The 1.9 billion will be less in a settlement and business will go on.

All of that may be true if it goes to settlement...

What is already true is that FOX News has already been found to be lying about the 2020 election in court

Who is really concerned with Domion? Was Dominion ever mentioned in the Wisconsin Supreme Court case (I don't know)? My concern is the Dimm ballot harvesting scheme. Drop boxes and Mules.

Who is really concerned with Domion?

The defamation case is not against Dominion...its against FOX News

Was Dominion ever mentioned in the Wisconsin Supreme Court case (I don't know)?

Yes they were.. LOL

Amazing how the trump supporters conveniently forge all the lies they told after the election

Hundreds of Wisconsin municipalities use Dominion voting machines. Clerk says they should be trusted

Former President Donald Trump falsely claimed Dominion voting machines were used in part to steal the election from him.

Right...lets ignore the lies about faulty voting machines...and illegal "batches" of votes from the internet...and vote switching glitch claims

You're a joke 🤡

Name calling from your kind is what we expect. My concern is not Dominion voting machines. Mules stuffing drop boxes at 2 AM after Election Day is. Trump set a record for a Republican on Election Day.

Smartmatic's lawsuit is actually for more damages than Dominion...$2.7 vs $1.6 billion
Newsmax & OAN are facing lawsuits from these two companies also

And then all of the individual lawsuits against Rudy, Sidney, and Lou will happen

donald trump is the gift that keeps on giving...and giving...and giving 🤣

Newsmax and OAN, Who Also Face Dominion Lawsuits, Totally Avoid Coverage of Fox’s Historic Payout

Fox News is not the only cable news network that was sued by Dominion. Newsmax and One America News Network, two small channels that outflanked Fox from the right in embracing former President Donald Trump’s election lies in the aftermath of the 2020 election, also face lawsuits from the company.

Notably, both Newsmax and OANN have not mentioned the blockbuster settlement on air. When reached for comment, a Newsmax spokesperson issued a confident statement on the prospects of their case with Dominion.

“Newsmax believes that the facts at issue in Dominion’s case against us are materially different from those that may have driven Fox to settle and no conclusion about Newsmax should be drawn from that settlement,” they wrote. “Newsmax stands by its coverage and analysis of the 2020 election and will continue to vigorously defend against the claim.”

OANN did not respond to a request for comment.

Bill Maher Goes After Fox’s $787.5M Settlement: “They Avoided A Trial And The Harrowing Prospect Of Having To Swear To Tell The Truth”
Tom Tapp
Fri, April 21, 2023 at 11:14 PM EDT·1 min read

After going over the settlement and how it delivered Fox execs and Fox News personalities from testifying under oath, Maher concluded, “This way they avoided a trial and the harrowing prospect of having to swear to tell the truth.”

In terms of truth, Maher went over internal Fox texts made public in the proceedings. He noted that Tucker Carlson — who had Trump lawyer Sydney Powell on his show, thus “giving credibility” to her — described Powell in private as a “psychopath…a liar…and f*cking b*tch.”

And, said Maher, the Fox News spokesman responded, “They are cherry picking those texts out of context.” (The actual Fox News spokesperson’s quote was that they “cherry-picked quotes stripped of key context.”)

Maher’s response? “In what context is ‘f*ing bitch’ a compliment?”

The Real Time host also found irony in the statement that Fox put out claiming, “This settlement reflects Fox’s continued commitment to the highest journalistic standards.”

Maher came back with, “You know which news outlets have, I think, even higher journalistic standards? The ones who don’t have to pay three-quarters of a billion dollars for being a f*cking liar.”
