Florida got plenty of bang for its bucks Saturday night.
In the first game since UF paid millions in buyout money to lure Jim McElwain from Colorado State, the Gators lit up the scoreboard and turned the night into a fireworks show in beating New Mexico State 61-13 in McElwain’s Florida debut.
It was the most points a Florida team has scored in a coach’s first game.
“I’m most proud of how we played the game,” said McElwain. “We played it fast, physical and clean.”

“I wanted them to prove something maybe to themselves, that’ it’s OK to go out there and play their tails off,” McElwain said.
