Don't be surprised if Grier...

By the time Grier is eligible, the starter for the first half of the year will have more game experience than he does. I just have a hard time imagining us yanking a QB if we are off to a decemt start. This is assuming Harris is not the starter
Bottom line is you guys don't know anything and are just making assumptions," it should all be cleared up by the second week in February" shit I don't know one person on uf campus and I could make that statement and be right.

This is just a hypothetical but where would Grier transfer?

Since Grier was from North Carolina,
NC State (after Brissett finishes)?
North Carolina (with ex UF assistant Larry Fedora)?
South Carolina (with ex UF coach Muschamp who recruited him at UF)
Duke?
Someplace else?

I would like to see Will Grier stick it out and stay with Florida. Grier still has 2 1/2 seasons of eligibility left. The other guys like Franks/Trask could redshirt and possibly play full time in their rs-junior year and part time before then.
I was wrong, he will be a rs soph.

Along with his year suspension he loses a year of eligibility. He comes back next season as a redshirt junior. So he would have only 1 1/2 seasons left.

The eligibility loss is concurrent with the suspension. He will be a RSo next year and will have 2-1/2 years beginning at the 7th game.

Where is the rule that says he would have to sit 6 games if he goes the JUCO route?

The NJCAA is a separate entity from the NCAA. As is the NAIA. All he normally have to do is test clean and he SHOULD be eligible to play immediately for a JUCO or NAIA team.

I hope he doesn't chose this route but usually a transfer is immediately eligible unless it is academics.

Because if he plays for a JUCO team then the NCAA will say "Okay, you're ineligible now to play for an NCAA member school." A JUCO could play him if it wants but why would you play if you know the NCAA is going to declare you ineligible if you transfer to an NCAA member school?

He is suspended for one calendar year correct? Not a certain number of games. Is that not correct? I'm asking not quoting anything.

So if he plays his 2016 season at Northwest Mississippi Community College he would have gained extra playing experience plus not played in any NCAA games up to and past his calendar year of suspension.

So after his 2016 season he can sign with an NCAA team in December, participate in spring workouts, and suit up and play game one of the 2017 season. He would have served his calendar year suspension and then some.

Or does he have to stay enrolled in a NCAA college and sit and wait until October 2016 to play?

My bad, I see the ncaa clarified that he will indeed be a rs soph. Good, makes me feel better seeing how I don't believe the punishment fit the crime.

Other things/facts are important to Will and his family.

The only thing important to me is that he missed 7 games in 2015.
He will also miss the first half of 2016.

My conclusion is: IF either Trask or Franks is doing well and making progress, I don't see Grier making it back as a Gator starting QB.

What that means to Grier is yet to be seen, as far as remaining at UF?

Why? Is it because he wasn't good enough to start for either Bama or Ore?

He might, but why waste time on a (not good enough) rsJr, when you have two Top Fr early enrollees available?

I would have been fine with it if he had been available as the 1-2 for 2015, but in 2016, I see better long term possibilities. Nothing personal against Rio.

So basically, there is something that is NOT Grier's or Coach Mac's choice going on. Because it doesn't make any football logic to sit out an entire year to transfer and learn your third O system vs starting game 7 next year.

No idea what that something is, if his grades are fine and he didn't lie about the PED details to the staff. Either way, does not appear to be a football decision.

The whole thing sounds bizarre...but we'll see what's up in the next couple of months. I would love to see him come back...he was balling out IMO.

We don't know this. He might have lied about what he took.

From a guy who is supposedly family friends with Jordan Cronkrite, so take it FWIW.

Spoke with a couple of the south Florida guys who are back home and they expect Will to stay with the team and see how it plays out next year. They have actually said that they have seen Will around campus now more than ever. All of them also said he was growing so much into the offense that they would have beaten Alabama and FSU and would still have two more games so they do believe in him.

Like heavy cream, the best 2016 QB will float to the top.

With the 6-6 220 Early Enrollees, the Spring game should be VERY interesting...

The next QB is always the guy that's behind the starters if he's not lighting it up...IMO it would be a HUGE hit to us if Grier doesn't come back. Hopefully we see him starting game 7 next year...or whatever game he's allowed back.

Josh Grady 6-0 200 eligibility expired - WO and Gonzo
Listing by class seniority:

Jacob Guy 6-5 222 rsSr - WO (previous clipboard)
Luke Del-Rio 6-1 216 rsJr - WO SQ (#3 at bama, then #2 at OreSt)
Anderson Proctor 6-3 209 rsJr - WO SQ
Treon Harris 5-11 195Jr - ship (stats available plus the eye test)
Will Grier 6-2 203rsSo - ship (not available until game #7)
Brian Fallace 6-4 206 rsFr - WO SQ
Harry Gornto V 6-2 195 rsFr - WO SQ

Kyle Trask 6-6 218 Fr - ship
Feleipi Franks 6-6 220 - ship

In theory, any of those 9 QB's could be the Spring/Fall stand-out and win the starting job by Sept. Any and all of them could also not even be on the 2016 roster come Sept. I prefer to wait and see where the 'cream' is before making any 'definitive' statements about them.

My own speculation is it's either Trask or Franks, but it could turn out be any of them. Five of them are 6-3 - 6-6, (for those that need tall at QB to be happy).

* IMOHO, Grier is coming back to start ONLY if Trask/Franks are not good enough by game #7. Otherwise he joins the backup/xfer group. A real shame, he was my pick to be the 2015 starter, but it's due to his own poor choices.

Sounds like Eason is sticking with UGA now that they have Jim Chaney as OC. Solid hire, but Eason would stick around for that if he does. Would have thought Nuss and Mac could have flipped him. Franks and Trask are awesome pickups though, so I can't really complain.

Jim Chaney is a terrible hire. Good news is it looks like Smart is sticking to the conservative offense approach.

^^^Are you phishing or are you stating from inside info? I don't think Eason has announced, but correct me if you know different. Thanks

He hasn't officially announced, but UGA players are saying they talked to Eason and he's sticking it through. I realize he's a kid and his decision can change day to day. Just sharing what I've heard from his campus visit. FWIW, he could just be telling them that.

#2 QB-PP Jacob Eason 6-5 205 ***** (still looking, but UGly is likely)
I think that Eason looked at Trask and Franks and decided that he'd better stay with the competition level that's currently at UGly.... ;)

QB-PP Feleipe' Franks 6-6 219
3 Year HS Career:

P - 337 of 592, 56.6% for 6.635 yds, 11.2 yds/att, 79 TD's, 16 Ints (4.9 to 1)
R - 59 for 696, 11.8 ypc, 8 TD's.

1-B QB-PP Kyle Trask 6-6 218 -- His 3 star rating is due to playing time, not talent level.
3 Year HS Career:
P - 114 of 156 73.1% for 1,735 yds, 11.1 yds/att, 17 TD's, ZERO Ints (17 to 0)
R - 10 for 22 yds, 2.2 ypc, 2 TD's.

~ Franks appears to be the stronger runner. (11.8 ypc to 2.2 ypc)
~ Trask appears to be the more accurate passer. (73.1% to 56.6%)
But either can get the job done, depending on the opponent.
================

For Comparison:

Harris 2015 - 11 Gms, 8 Starts
P - 111 of 214, 51.9% for 1,530 yds, 7.1 yd/att, 9 TD's, 5 Ints, (1.8 to 1)
R - 85 for 382 yds, 2.2 ypc, 0 TD's.

Grier 2015 - 6 Gms, 5 Starts
P - 106 of 161, 65.8% for 1,204 yds, 7.5 yds/att, 10 TD's, 3 Ints, (3.3 to 1)
R - 36 for 179 yds, 3.2 ypc, 2 TD's.

What the public doesn't know:

1. The name of the banned substance Will Grier tested positive for.
2. The alleged product Will says he bought "over the counter".
3. Whether he knew what he was taking was banned.

I'm basing that on Will's "statement". All he said was he took something he got over the counter, didn't clear it with UF staff, and is sorry for making a mistake. Making a mistake doesn't mean you didn't know you were breaking rules.

I'm guessing some of the detail would be covered in the appeal...but that's not been made public either.

I'm betting Grier's conduct may not be as clean as many fans want it to be as it relates to his suspension. Pretty sure a LOT more would be public by now if the details were exculpatory. Guess we'll just have to wait.

Probably for the first time, maybe second time, I agree with you...God forgive me!

Grier's suspension allowed him to continue practicing with the team. Why didn't he?
