Today Franz Beard pointed out that the Gators are in a great position to overtake Stanford in the Director's Cup. As it stands now, here is the standing of the teams still competing for points: Women's basketball - 16; Men's Basketball projected 7th seed in NCAA tourney; Gymnastics fell to #2; Men's Swimming - 5th (which I think is too low); Women's Swimming -11th; Lacrosse - 7th; men's indoor track - 1; women's indoor track - 4th; Men's golf has moved up to 5th; women's golf - 12th; men's tennis 22nd; women's tennis 3rd (which is too low - think they will win the national championship; baseball- unanimous #1 (but the best baseball team does not always win, as we saw last year); women's softball #1; outdoor men's track will be stronger than the indoor team, thus likely #1; women's track likely top 5. Women's basketball is a huge improvement, but several sports have become dynasties. Since they only score 20 events, this is the first time the Gators have a legitimate shot, and quite frankly, the future looks even brighter for several sports next season. I recognize many could care less about the minor sports, but this would definitely gain a lot of press if Florida actually wins since Stanford has had a strangle hold on this award for so long. And that can't be a negative for football and basketball recruiting.
