Denzel Aberdeen enters the portal

With his tremendous exposure in the tournament he will have plenty of choices. I wish him well. I’m not sure we win the whole thing without his contributions.

Some are reporting its mainly for more NIL but that ties back to Lee also. I think I would take the Lee for Aberdeen tradeoff if I had to. Golden is probably the best in college now at wisely using NIL.
He had a good year so now he is chasing money

This is a shocker to me, as Aberdeen contributed mightily to this year's title and would have been a major piece of next year's team. But each kid has to do what they think is best for them.

Shocker to me too but now he has the ring so he wants the bling to go with it

This was a shocker to me also. I had him penciled in as a starter. Being a head college basketball coach is not for the faint of heart in today's world.

Most every players seems to be chasing money and it must be hard to keep players happy.

To be honest I trust Golden evaluations over any of these kids choices, the more film that has come out shows the master classes Golden was putting on in the tournament and all year long.. Kids like him were just a product of the system we run and getting great looks because of how many great guards he was surrounded by..

Yep he is pretty good but not sure what his ceiling is. I definitely trust Golden to maximize the impact of NIL funds.

Aberdeen was a three-year student-athlete at the Univ. of Florida.
If he leaves, he will miss out on the adulation from his fellow students, alumni and fans.
As well as going out as a Senior next year - not too many can say that these days.

But, that's his choice.
Hopefully, he will get a good nil deal either from Florida or someone else.

Thanks to Denzel for being part of the Florida basketball team and for all of the successes and low points during this journey.

We all love Denzel, but college sports have been tarnished now.. Ruining things like you stated above, leaving after what just happened for a guy like him and winning a championship with one more year left wouldn't even be an option until the last few years..

I saw something that someone said that Georgia might throw the money at him cause he went to Florida because of Mike White

^ Say it isn't so!
Don't go to a rival school.

It would be just like that ex-UF running back that went to the dawgs.

Aberdeen was a good role guard and helped us win a title, but he isn't a top guard on a National Title contending team imo.

Could be. I will probably try to give it a few years before deciding whether to stay interested in Florida athletics or not. But as a former UF graduate from many years ago, I will always be a Florida Gator! Old habits are hard to break. ;)

Todd Golden tried to mitigate this trend of losing transfers by bringing in transfers who have multiple years of college elgibility left. For instance, Will Richard (from Belmont had 3 years left), Micah Handlogten (from Marshall with 3yrs left); Walter Clayton, Jr (Iona - 2 years left), etc.

When these players come back for another season, one feels like that there is some continuity with the program. Then you have your own home grown products that came through the HS ranks: Alex Condon & Thomas Haugh.

Some who have played only one season (i.e the graduate transfers like Alijah Martin, Zion Pullin, Samuels, etc.) have played huge roles for their team's winning culture. I had no problems embracing them as Gators.

But in Aberdeen's case, who was a fan favorite for sticking around and growing with this program, this came as a total shock.

We will all always be interested in the Gators and want them to succeed, and so will every other teams life long fans and alums..which is why this new world has been so easy for the bad people to exploit by money..

I think Lee's addition has more to do with it besides money which plays into also with Lee's NIL. They would never say it but if Lee was likely to get the starting point guard slot that was where Aberdeen had been likely to move into.

And I don't think he would even fit in Alijah Martin's spot.

Somewhere in that article is either fake news or this one is. Link to Condon declares he's coming back.

There are a lot of joke sites now. Condon won't be back if he is told by the NBA he is likely going late first round.

.............which I don't think will happen. He's not ready, and 1st round money is everything for underclassmen considering the NBA.

I like Aberdeen and good for him for getting his money, but lol there's no way he's worth that no wonder he's not here anymore.

As much as Kentucky fans like to nitpick and bitch about their players, their gonna love this move right now.. but once they see the downsides of his game dribbling around aimlessly all over the place without Clayton, Martin and Richard etc. to play with, it's gonna get ugly on their board. If they're paying him that they must plan on him being a vital piece to the team as a guard, yikes.

Kentucky better do something, we are the Flagship now.. and it's hilarious that they are needing to steal from us and Bama to make themselves relevant again, which says it all.
Only one player stayed when Cal left and 3 went with him and the others graduated or transferred, Pope had to reload and got a late start at that, and he still did alright. But things will be back to normal now that he has as much time as everybody else to build his roster. I'm sure he will be able to sustain Kentucky's place in college basketball. As far as being relevant, Kentucky will always be in basketball, they beat Florida this year with a weak Kentucky roster. Pope did pretty good with what he had, we will see how long you think it's hilarious.

Pope is a good coach. He will keep KY competitive. But the reality is Florida has 3 titles this century and KY has 1. KY Jelly still the standard in the SEC when it comes to hoops due to their lengthy tradition, recent results favor Florida. Aberdeen is a really good player, if rumors are true you guys shelled out 2.2m for our backup point guard so that tells you all you need to know about the current state of basketball affairs.

Yep you were the only team we played to have no loss against us this season I think. Despite us being down against you guys recently we actually had a decent record at KY those years going into that game. Should be a good matchup this coming season. Golden looks like he is making smart changes with the players we are losing.

If that number is anywhere close to reality KY definitely overpaid big time. That would be like TN giving Nico the 4 million he wanted.

Kentucky actually had a very healthy roster when they beat UF, until Jaxson whatever his name is was lost for the season with an injury.

As usual, the bama fans of basketball everyone..

You're own fans have admitted the Gators are the Flagship of the SEC this century, it's okay to give them credit.. They have as many Championships as UNC and Duke in that same time span..

I can see one UK fan here is pissed he didn't land Billy Donovan or Brad Stevens, again, again, again, again and again, for the past 18 years.
