We played a lot of nickel the last couple years which was very solid given our elite talent in the secondary.

Will that be the same this year? I am assuming Dawson will be the safety opposite Maye in base defense. He seems to be the most complete player. Nick and Marcel are good but probably not the all around player of Dawson. I am also going to assume that Johnson will be the third linebacker against teams with better passing attacks with Rolin the guy against the heavier package teams. Might not be accurate as Johnson played the run well in the spring game.

What about Nickel? Is Kylan the better player to have on the field or our third best safety? If we go nickel then Dawson probably slides to nickel and Nick or Marcel become the third safety. Would it be better to slide Kylan to the slot and keep Dawson at safety? Obviously it probably depends on the slot player. If its a TE then probably Kylan, vs a player like Powell or Massey.

LSU is the type of team that I wonder if we are better staying in base defense. Maybe give up a few more passes but try to stop Fournette by keeping the third line backer in the game. It just doesn't seem like such the obvious choice to move into nickel this year with Kylan Johnson. Thoughts?
