Coach Mac

In the SEC without a doubt, but nationally? Temple and Memphis may both have stronger cases. Lot of season to go, though.

Completely agree, OP. I still chuckle at the poster who was pimping for Rich Rod to get the job.

I don't care who is voted for it but Coach Mac needs to be both NCAA and SEC Coach of the Year, period. If they don't give it to him that would be a shame and political...

Agree what he has done is nothing short of miraculous with what he inherited here. He got a few good players but that was all!

Paging Michi, paging Michi Gator.

He still believes deep down that Treon is better than Grier and that Meyer isn't a deceitful scumbag.

Treon is not better, especially in this O. But GNC boy is out for the yeat, so complaining all game is wasteful, but I understand you guys who wanted Chump on the ten year plan nees to be right about something, even if it means losing

I think we all agree now that Mac was a great hire and Grier would be the better qb option if we had an option. McElwain works with what he has. If he has corn he grinds it into grits, the staple food of the south. It's all good......especially with butter.

Should be a lock in a few weeks. Mac is coaching his ass off. Every single thing we do on offense is manufactured. Usually if you have a bad o-line your offense is a train wreck. We're dealing with an o-line playing freshmen all over the place, no depth at tailback (2 true freshmen backups), our best offensive player is a true freshman AND after all that when we finally found a QB we lose him for the year creating another obstacle. And somehow we keep on ticking. I'll be the first I say I was dead wrong on this dude. When he was hired I was all 'WTF is this!?' I'm glad to be able to say I'm wrong. He's everything we wanted and then some.

Pat Dooley said before the season started that if Mac won 7 games with this roster then he deserved national coach of the year. Well somebody better call the engraver because looks like he may win 10+

Takes a big man to post that.

I admit to wanting Chip Kelly (not that I thought that would actually happen), and wasn't real happy to get a guy I never heard of. Still, I was cautiously optimistic at the time. Well, hopeful, anyway.

I was all about and still would be the spread option guys. This team in 10 months has gone from a place no athlete wanted to play to probably having to chose between the top receivers/athletes. This looks like a great hire and I say that fully expecting next year to be a bit less successful than this year. I was convinced that Florida football was done forever until Danny talked me off the ledge.

I don't think ANYONE saw this coming.

Thought the same. I wanted us to offer Chip and Harbaugh even though I didn't think they'd come, I just wanted us to make them say no. After that I wanted guys like Gundy, Rich Rod, Freeze, etc. Most of us were way wrong.

The COY is probably going to the winner of the Memphis/ Houston game of Justin Fuente/Tom Hermen or Dabo's dumb self if he and the Memp Hou winner stay undefeated.

However with the body of work and circumstances surrounding UF Mac should get great consideration.

Goes to show what happens when you live up north. Those damn Yankees love to tell everyone in the south how they do it better up north when most of the white legged, black sock wearing old farts are beating the drum to move south.

I'm sure the SEC refs will find a way to make sure he is flagged and doesn't get it. Maybe they'll get creative on the instant replay and just make up new rules like they were doing today in our game. And the Duke-Miami game. And a few others out there...

Honestly, and I'm not trying to brag looking at hindsight here, but I thought it was a great hire. I was looking at a couple things on his hire. #1 he had head coaching experience. The last home run we had was Meyer and he proved at BG and Utah that he could come into a program and lift it up, that's what we needed. Mac did that at Colorado State, in a very big way. #2 I wanted someone who ran effective offense. Mac was the O-coord for 2 national championship teams under Nick Saban, including the one that beat our vaunted Time Tebow the Senior led 2009 undefeated team in The SEC championship. If that wasn't enough pedigree for you, I don't know what is. If you can't beat em, don't join em, hire them! #3, I wanted a guy who was an SEC coach. Someone who coached here before, knew what it took to run a team successfully in The SEC. I remember a lot of us were really hoping to grab Chip Kelly from the NFL at the time, he was overwhelmingly the #1 choice, but my problem with him always was that he had no SEC connections and had absolutely no experience in the Southeast of the country. Would he have fit in down here? Who knows. Coach mac coaching under Saban knew what The SEC was about, he understood it.

With those 3 things that I felt were requirements to get a successful new coach, Mac fulfilled them all and I was content that this guy would at LEAST be an improvement over Muschamp. I had no idea or expectations that he would run this team through to an SEC East division title and chance to play for the whole SEC for the first time since 2009. All that with an offensive line that is the youngest in all of college football this year in terms of combined football starts. To say my expectations were exceeded at this point is an understatement, and I had fully expected us to go 9-3 on the season, being VERY optimistic from the start on this guy. It seems that at LEAST, a 10 win season is all but guaranteed at this point. Vandy got blanked by Houston today, South Carolina's defense doesn't exist at all, and FAU is going to play like FAU. That's 10 wins right there, even if we somehow have a disaster against FSU and the post season. Even highly optimistic folks like myself never thought we'd have had such a great season I feel.

Did you say this while wearing your old Confederate attire?

Why Muschamp got a pass explained in one post. And to think BONG got banned for pointing out this line of thinking existed.

Actually a 'Yankee' won UF more titles than SOS. Just ask Danny, that second Meyer title ruined everything he ever knew about UF football.

I think it's very interesting that you can't seem to enjoy this season on any way.

Still talking about Muschamp, defending Meyer, and getting pissed that everyone doesn't love Treon like you do.

We are a Vandy win away from Atlanta and this is the crap you're into?

Sheesh buddy.

Dude, you have a sick obsession with Treon. I have told you 50 times he is not suited for this offense, but what choice do we have? Will was a bonehead and you want that to be Treon's fault. Like I said, he's out of Gainesville after this and you can have the statue Trask for the first 6 games of next season, so when Will gets back we'll already be out of it.

I would imagine Treon might want to stay on a Championship competing team next year in some way

I'm not sure Treon is a good QB no matter what offense he's in. Yes he would probably be better in a zone read type offense but that isn't all of a sudden going to fix his inaccuracies of a passer. Mac/Nuss are just gonna have to do the best they can with Harris.

If Harris transfers in the offseason so be it, but he's not transferring. He's definetly not transferring if Will Grier's suspension is upheld. Also Luke Del Rio is much better than people think or realize.

Who's not enjoying the season? You are the one who litters the gameday threads with negativity. You are doing exactly what you bitched about everyone doing with Chump.

Yes. He works with what he has. Not to be blasphemous, but he could be the second coming of Steve.

I really don't know what pin all this anger of yours on if you really believe the rankings you keep throwing my way.

Are you reading your posts?

sadgator has no doubt that if you gave Mac Bauta and Richt Harris, Mac would have still found a way to win. That is what we have with Mac.
Like Mac said...he can win with his dog playing QB...I didn't know what to think about that at the time but when Numbers brought it back up a few weeks ago it made sense...Mac is a damn Genesis on offense and he's brought an amazing group of coaches together as well as a new attitude back to Florida. ..it's been an incredible turnaround. Nobody saw this coming. ...Coach of the year SEC and FBS.

Mac had to tell the media like 3 times that UF had 15 opportunities to win going into the season...they almost laughed at the man...who's laughing now? "That's pretty cool"

I just wonder what Treon will do when we have to have him to win a game for us

We beat our Rivals by 4 Touchdowns and should have shut them out and he apologized for our performance. How bad does that make Mark Richt look?

We have the right coach, and it's awesome.

Like we did with UGA? That was a pretty good first drive, if FAIL on the FG. Yes the punt muff was a gift. But we had several nice drives in that game.

Yep. It was reminiscent of the first time Spurrier faced UGA. We beat them 38-7 and Spurrier lamented that "We left a lot of points out there on the field, but we scored a lot of points, so I guess it is OK."

I had a great feeling about Mac very early on. For me, the biggest change was the organizational culture, which he began correcting immediately:

"As you will see and get to know some of the guys that we have brought on board, it isn't just about coaching ball," McElwain said. "It's about being involved in their lives, it's about being there when things don't go well and when things do go well. Knowing my door is always open, as all our coaches' are, to come up and say hello."

And that's a two-way street, McElwain said. He used an interesting analogy to make that point to his players.

"One of the first things I told them, look there are going to be days when I'm like a dead fish, man," he said. "How many of you guys have been to Publix or whatever, and you walk by the frozen fish aisle? I see it a little bit, OK. You look down and the trout that are laying on ice, how do they make you feel?

"The last thing I want is a bunch of dead trout hanging around. It's about energy and affecting the people around you in a positive way."
