CNN in a dither over new Tennessee law:

Drug use/addiction is a form of mental illness. Most hard drug users reach a point where they no longer want to be addicted before they die.

Laws like this break the cycle of bad choices, forcing homeless people into the shelter system (or jail if they don't want to go to shelter) where there's a roof over their head and at least some resources to help turn their life around. Yes, you can get GED's, job training and other forms of help even in jail in some instances.

Lady who'd been on the street for a year is probably never getting out of the tailspin she's in without a law like this.

But why are we talking about this - @kalimgoodman just posted a tweet that America is doing better than ever - how do we have homeless problems in Joe Biden's economic utopia?
I agree that alcoholism and drug addiction are medical issues. I also believe unless you were born addicted to drugs courtesy of an irresponsible mother, you made the initial choice to walk that path.

We are all slaves to addictions or other habits that are not healthy. Some are addicted to gambling, gaming, overeating, or sex/porn. A person that is addicted to working has issues with a healthy balance of recreation and work-life separation.

IF/when I have an excess, I've given a hungry person 1-2 of my fish.
If they liked the fish and asked, I'd teach them how to catch a fish.
After that, they can either get up and fish, or they can starve at their own choice and discretion...

Those that confuse enabling for compassion, are a part of the problem, not any part of a real solution.
I'm not stupid enough to try to save every puppy in the pound, no matter how cute they are....

Darwin Awards and evolution have their place in existence imo....
Others are free to live in any way that they can, as long as they are taking nothing away from me and mine....

Right. When I taught middle school. I heard I can't but what they really meant was I won't. And, if you refuse to learn then you are just too prideful to admit they don't know how. I can show you if you want to learn but no one can teach someone that refuses to be taught.

True...solutions still need to be available....somehow and I don't know how.

That becomes difficult and useless however if the person hasn't actually decided to change their ways.

Even worse, when they use these programs to mitigate criminal sentences rather than to actually get sober. Which is probably the case 99% of the time.

I read at 400+ WPM with 87+% Comp, and I type at around 60 CWPM.
And even then, I can hardly keep up with the speed of my thinking.

IF you are one of the short bus types, then you might want to avoid anything that I post that's longer than a sentence or two, and I'll understand and not hold it against you....
😉

I agree with you politically.......but your football posts are like watching entire ships paint dry. But lets hang on to that blind hog and acorn about Kyle Trask last you a decade. 😂 😍

That's okay. I'll help him (if he's willing to learn). I'm a special education teacher.

Again you fail to be able to keep up.
My last QB reference here on the sports board was about Dean and Danny, not Franks and Trask.
But I understand and forgive you your deficiencies of intellect....
😘

I never said better than ever. I never said better period. You guys LOVE to make up words as mine. I just posted a video of what he accomplished.

America isn't perfect right now and wasn't under any president and never will be. There will always be things to fix and improve upon. Biden definitely got work to do.

What period is this better than since you’ve been alive?

And he has work to do? Seriously? He’s responsible for creating a vast majority of that work. That’s not how normal work works. I don’t get to go to my job, eff literally everything up and then claim success because things are getting less horrible (which I’m not even sure they are).

The punchline of the video posted said this “Has been an extraordinarily successful two years”. Defend that. You can’t possibly agree.

That 1st question is a great question. I would say Obama 2nd term was great for me personally. I was too young to really judge Bush term 1 and Clinton years.

What was Biden's doing? Not things you blame him for political reasons (gas prices, inflation) but things that is his 100% his doing like the Afghanistan pull out.

Yes he has work to do. There is always something to do.

Yeah, like lean in close and sniff someone, while they cringe.
Or make deals with Hunter to sell out America to her enemies.
Or just go pedo around together for an afternoon.
So much to do, so little time to get it all done....

My mistake, 80,000 homeless veterans.

I have no sympathy for drug users or able bodied homeless. But the mentally ill, children, veterans, and poor people that most likely were paycheck to paycheck and hand to mouth before something catastrophic happened deserve our help.

And I try to help the homeless whenever I can.
I have met some of these "homeless" people...they were pulled up at a bar, drinking like crazy. Many do this for a living..a darn good living. Secondly, most are mentally ill. I do not believe when you give most of them money that you are helping them..you are enabling them

Right, if you are hungry I will give you food and if you are thirsty I will give you water. But, if I did give them money and they used it for drugs then my tithe still stands. It was meant for good and the person chose to use it for evil.

To be fair, it's like this would most issues in this country. Our politicians always throw money at the problem as a way to curry votes. The smart thing would be to work with these people to actually give them the mental and other help they need to become productive members of society.

But those programs would take years to show fruit, politicians want votes now, so here we are. As long as their are emotional sheep who feel they are 'helping' by supporting handouts, it won't change.

I'd put them in camps based on military compounds, with a chow hall, barracks, and basic health care facilities.
Run it with a combination of no-nonsense SGT's and mental health workers.
Give them structure and daily requirements, whether they like it or want them or not.
Vocational job training required, for the hope of a job and a way out.
Farms to feed themselves and to train them for the most basic job tasks.

Then use a section of controlled enclosed land/woods as the dump off section for those that refuse to follow even basic human civilization standards. You can't save every puppy in the pound, some are just not meant for survival.

Otherwise, you are willingly endangering those that do wish to survive, at least at a minimum human level. As to the animals that don't or won't qualify as human, then it's let them be in the dog eats dog enclosure, a self-fulfilling prophesy. --- Harsh? Yep, but so is Life, and it always has been a 'Do It Yourself' project that you either get up and do, or you lay down and die.

But they'll dieeeee.....
Yep, but WE ALL DIE, there's no getting out of this life alive, so WTF Up...
Even Forrest Gump's mother knew that Dying is just another part of Living....

Infrastructure and helping our own homeless citizens could be accomplished with the money that is going into a shithole with no bottom.

If the NPV concept is not used, the actual net lifetime fiscal cost of illegal immigrants is likely $120,000 to $130,000 per illegal alien, or between $1.4 and $1.5 trillion for the entire illegal population, again assuming 11.43 million illegal immigrants are in the country. Making Different Assumptions Including Descendants.

The current estimate of the criminal invading Army of illegal Border Jumpers has exceeded 35,000,000, so you can TRIPLE the costs of them....
😡

Our systems can't deal with our own homeless citizens, so let's dump 35-M criminals on top of them to smooth out the problems....
