That was back before you guys sucked ass at football wasn't it?

The totally clueless choker fans are always ready to show off their vast reservoir of dust-bowl ignorance.o_O

Swooner football LOSER seasons since 1980 = 5
(while playing around in the sucky collapsing Big/whatever)

Gator football LOSER seasons since 1980 = 1 (72 lost start injuries)
(Playing in the SEC, UF has only had 6 loser seasons since 1950)

-----------

Gator mNC's since 1990 = 1 (1996)
Gator BCS-NC's = 2 (2006 - 2008 >>> UF 24 - 14 OU)

Swooner mNC's since 1990 = ZERO
Swooner BCS-NC's = 1 (2000)
-----------

SEC NC's since 2000 = 9 - UA4 - UF2 - LSU2 - AU1
(while UGA-02 & AU-04 were both voter scammed out of playing for one)

Big 12/10/whatever NC's since 2000 = 1 choker in 2000, while all the rest of them are sucking loser air...

PS

UF has to compete with FSU & Miami in-state, plus up and coming UCF and USF, while both FAU/Lane Kiffin and FIU/Butch Davis are steadily gaining ground.

Who do the chokers have to compete with out in the choke-la-homa dust-bowl? (the Okee jack-a-lopes)

The more guys like Stoops actually calling it quits really starts to make me feel im aging a bit from all the players/coaches from my era
True. sadgator feels like he "aged out" of CFB around the end of the Meyer-era, which perhaps more than coincidentally coincides with us sucking. It really hasn't felt the same since.

The sad reality is that the CFB golden age of the 90's isn't coming back, and the game will never feel as big and as exciting as it was back then. But it is still better than anything else going. And at least sadgator got to experience the apex of it in his prime. That makes sadgator content on some level.

Late '80s and '90s college football was sick. Early '90s FSU/Miami, then those Nebraska teams, then the Gators. I grew up a Nebraska fan and was actually at the Orange Bowl when they stomped the life out of Peyton Manning in his senior send-off. There were a couple of juiced up hillbillies in front of me that were literally sobbing by the end of it. It was hysterical. But I decided I wanted to go to UF watching the Alex Brown game vs. UT. You're right that we won't see teams as stacked as those teams again, although 'Bama comes close.

I used to be able to tell you the hometown of literally every player on the FSU roster in the 90's. I couldn't name our starting LB'rs at this point. I love college football but it has kind of passed me by a little.

It's because they've watered it down like the NFL. I mean I'm younger than y'all by a good bit but even back then what glued you to the TV was that every game meant something. You only had 11 regular season games and then the bowl game. 1 loss might ruin your season so the games just had an extra excitement around them.

Now you play 12 regular season games, a conference championship, and two playoff games if you make it to the title game. That's 15 damn games. And it's gotten to the point now that when teams lose a game or even 2 it doesn't really matter that much. Because everybody says just win your conference and you might still get it. And it'll get worse once they expand the playoffs. Throw in BS like the mega conferences effing up traditional rivalries and all that and you basically have a watered down version of the NFL.

Respectfully and completely disagree. Actually, the season had too much meaning when your season could be over after week one with no reason to watch. If/when they go to 8, it'll actually make it better because you still have a reason to root and watch.

Rule changes (I.e targeting) have pussified the game. And 3 national titles made us fat and happy. Once you get to the mountain top, it never is as exciting to climb again...plain and simple. Plus Mus taught a generation of gators that mediocrity was ok. It really killed the program.

The apathy has nothing to do with playoffs.

Yea we disagree, which is cool.

I don't watch NFL games because ultimately they don't mean shit. You can lose 7, 8, or 9 games and as long as you win your division you're in the playoffs. If you're showing me the games don't mean anything why am I wasting 3 hours watching it? College football will become the same way. As is we're moving more and more towards an NFL system with less talented players. It's like the NFL D-League...might as well just watch the NFL at that point. CFB was big because it was different in every way. The major rivalries that are watered down in the pros, the excitement of recruiting, undefeated teams having a big regular season matchup that might decide a national title, etc. Now it's play for 2-3 losses and try to get in the playoffs. Yay!

I'm in the same boat...just an opposite team.

I remember around a year ago or so somebody had a post of what FSU player would UF fans want and vice versa.

The only name I knew was Dalvin Cook. I couldn't even rattle off the Gator starters on the OL/DL without even looking.

It's just different now.

The mega conferences or shifts or whatever it was really changed the game.

I miss watching Texas/A&M on Thanksgiving weekend. LSU/Arkansas (which actually had some exciting games) Black Friday is gone and is replaced by some lame Arkansas vs Mizzou. Florida vs Auburn on a yearly basis is over with. The old Nebraska/OU games went out the window. Even Memphis/Louisville was interesting.

The name of the conferences don't even match. The Big 10 had like 14 tes or some ish. The South EASTERN conference has 3 teams West of the Mississippi. The Big 12 has 10 teams. The Big East is no longer a football conference. The new AAC has teams like Navy in football but their other sports are in some Patriot league. Then Witicha State was added but they don't even field a football team.

It's just too different these days.

You discount the innate meaning of the games though. As a Florida fan, you will always hate UT and FSU in your bones and playoffs have no relevance to your true interest in watching Florida play those teams. That is the difference with the NFL. If you are a die hard NFL fan, games mean something to you too, but we aren't die hard NFL fans. We are die hard CFB fans...and there is a significant difference.

There is a good point with the mega- conference realignment though. It does kill rivalries, and that has definitely sucked some energy out of the game. sadgator agrees with that.

Idk, the rivalries become watered down when you can beat a team and still have them play in the playoffs instead of you, like what happened with Penn St. and Ohio St. The mega conferences and playoffs flipped the script.

Better watch out, sooners now only 1 behind Florida in team national titles, although 11 sooner titles are in mens gymnastics....sooooo I guess those count, sort of.

Pretty sad when your only come back showing a picture of Tim Tebow doing the gator chomp from 10 years ago.

You lost your coach, AND you have terrible reading comprehension skills.

Let sadgator break it down for you. You came here to ridiculously (and shamefully) give us shit over losing a chick softball game. In response, sadgator made you look foolish by joking that you were STILL (emphasized for you in caps) upset about a football national title loss to us that happened ten years ago.

You have now twice in this thread (since that post) made reference to sadgator rubbing in a 10 year old loss without realizing that the intended insult was actually predicted upon it BEING a 10 year old loss. Thereby making yourself look like even more of an idiot than you actually are for not understanding the joke.

You are honestly not very good at the "smack talk" thing. You should stick to porn sites.

There is definitely validity in your example, and sadgator acknowledges that It is an unfortunate negative consequence of the system that may occur from time to time. But sadgator is willing to live with that to see the title decided on the field in playoff format. Decimal points simply drove sadgator insane, and future generations will look back on us as primative lunatics for ever using them to decide football championships.

4-team playoff with the computers selecting the 4 would be ideal. Remember we went to the computers because everyone kept bitching about the human element when they'd move up and drop teams for seemingly no reason and then there were biased decisions...like Miami beating FSU, them finishing with the same record, and FSU getting to go to the title game instead.

And in the short history of the playoffs we've already seen two examples of ridiculous bias in choosing the top 4 teams. First, TCU dropping from #3 to like #6 so Ohio St. could get in under the rationale that TCU didn't win their conference (even though they were co-champs). 2 years later Ohio St. gets in over Penn St. losing to Penn St., despite not even winning their division and despite Penn St. winning the conference. The mega conference setup is about power...all the big boys keeping money away from the smaller schools. The whole thing is politicized now. We have a committee making decisions who don't even technically have to explain why they make the decisions they make or what they use to make the decisions they make. It's back room, political BS.

You are right that Spurrier at UF in the 90s was peak college football for a fan. How could it get any any better than the favorite son returning and stomping the living hell out of the entire SEC using a space age offense and smack talking the whole way? Then we get two championships and Tebow, Harvin, Spikes, Reggie Nelson, etc... etc... out of Urban Meyer.

Chances are we won't see that again. We were lucky to see it the first time.
