Would be the smart thing to do to counter the SEC. There is smoke of this happening. I think it will

ACC and BIG merge of some sort seemed like a natural reaction to SEC expansion but the PAC12 involvement is more surprising. USC and Oregon seem like the only teams out there that would be attractive. Perhaps Colorado but they haven’t taken football seriously in 20-30 years.

It would depend what teams. Lots of lousy teams in those conferences.
Looking at the map there are about 6 to 7 teams from each conference in the Big10 and ACC. Take those for varying reasons; established power, name brand, TV market. Those 7 each get you to 14 teams, you can start getting picky if the goal is 16-20 teams. Start emphasizing basketball and/or academics to fill things out.

Everyone left out in the cold is going to court to keep the the status quo. At the end of the day any merger is going to need some guarantees from cable/streaming providers to compete with the SEC’s ESPN revenue.

First, those 3 conferences have 2 teams worth a crap, OSU and Clemson so, it would suck!

I wish FSU would join the SEC but, the reason they are in the A.C.C. is they were afraid to join the SEC many years ago.

In the coming years, there won't be any need for conferences or a Playoff at all.

Under the new & improved Socialist leaning Communism, at the end of the season every team will be declared winners, in the name of fairness and equality....

Lol so then the SEC only has 1 team worth a crap by your standards. Bama

The Big Ten, ACC and Pac-12 are actively engaged in discussions about forming a scheduling alliance, sources close to the conversations tell CBS Sports' Dennis Dodd. The Athletic's Max Olson first reported these discussions Friday.

Such an alliance, likely to be primarily focused on college football scheduling, would be an effort by the three Power Five conferences to counter the recently expanded SEC that is growing in power and influence across collegiate athletics. This comes on the heels of the SEC formally accepting Texas and Oklahoma as its newest conference members. The Longhorns and Sooners will begin SEC play in 2025.

An alliance between the Big Ten, ACC and Pac-12 could allow the conferences to create interesting matchups between their biggest brand-name teams in an effort to compete with the SEC's television inventory and notoriety. It could also strengthen their individual standings in college sports' ever-changing landscape and potentially stiff-arm other conferences from poaching their top teams.

Poking da-dog, pokin da-dog....

==========

National Champions in Football this Century:

UA 6
LSU 3
UF 2
AU 1 >>> +1
SEC = 12 with 4 different teams.
>>> in 2004 when USC got voided, AU was 13-0, so they got hosed.

-----
TX 1
OU 1
Big12 = 2
-----
SEC + Big12 = 14 with 6 different teams.
==========

CU 2
FSU 1
Mia 1
ACC = 4
-----
tOSU 2
Big10/12 = 2
-----
USC 1 >> 2004 NCAA voided NC for cheating.
LAC12 = almost 1
-----
ACC+Big10+Lac12 Combined = 6 with 4 different teams

Note:
SEC = 12 + 1 hosed
The other 4 conferences in the Big 5 Combined = 8 + 1 voided

This seems like a great way for the conference leadership to protect their own jobs by preventing more mergers.

I wish we could just cut the historical bottom 20-30% of each of the three conferences and smoosh what’s left into a new super-conference.

gonna backfire. If the ACC reduces the SEC footprint in their schedule, their TV rights and attendance will suffer. I bet the FSU-UF game is the best draw FSU has….. I KNOW the UL-UK tilt is Louisville’s best draw

Depends on the yr, sometimes its UF but lately its been Clemson. At other times it was Miami. Bounces between those 3.

These other conferences better do something. They were already miles behind the SEC and that was before the addition of Texas and Oklahoma.

Like that old Who song "I can see for miles and miles and miles and miles...but I still can't see the rest of college football in the rear view mirror".

Been a while since I heard it, pretty sure that's the lyric.

Academically probably.

FSU is middle-of-the-pack now in the ACC academic rankings:

ACC:
10. Duke
15. Notre Dame
27. Wake Forest
28. Virginia
29. Georgia Tech
29. North Carolina
37. Boston College
54. Syracuse
57T. Florida State
57T. U of Miami
57T. Pitt
70. Clemson
74. Virginia Tech
84. NC State
192. Louisville

Though, I can remember around a decade ago when FSU was tied for like 100th place with NC State.

UPDATE: It looks like this list is out-of-date. The current rankings can be found here:

FSU won't be dropping UF from the schedule no matter what. If the SEC goes to a 9 game conference schedule this alliance could basically give every team another conference game against teams they usually don't play. I'd like another FSU vs USC home and home like we played when I was in school there.

You might want to rethink that loony statement dude....

LSU has won 3 NC this century, (03-07-19)
That's one more than mighty Clemp's-son, (2016-18).
That's also more than FSUcks (13) and the scUM (01) have won combined....
Meh. I guess its easier to win one in the SEC
