This will help loan providers. The vast majority of borrowers will see no benefit, and when the loan providers likely raise rates to erase this reduction, the 'poor' will actually be HURT by this.

Here is the trick, they are looking back at income from 2020 or 2021. So, say you graduated Law School in 2019 and had accepted a Clerkship with a Judge. You earned $60K to $80K in 2020. Then got hired by some big NY firm in 2021 and now make $250+. You still quailfy for Student Loan paydown.
There's $1.73T in student loan liability in the US.
I wonder why Biden stopped at $300B??
Threshold for the $20k is $125k.
A married couple making $250k per year could get a $40k check.

BUT, that income threshold is from your 2020 or 2021 income was my point. So, Today, you could have a job that pays you $500,000 a year, but back in 2020 you only made 100,00, you get the 10K

The federal government
There is a reason why people can file bankruptcy but those student loans remain. Creditors get to write off the bad debt, the federal government will now allow it. You will pay them hell or high water.
I could be wrong but I believe it was Obama that made the law that all student loans are federally funded.

The terms of the loan were if you do "X" then you don't have to repay the loan.

Correct. In most cases, to have your "loan" forgiven, all you had to do was pay your employees their salaries and don't fire/lay anyone off.
